This is by far the simplest and most effective tutorial I’ve come across yet for calibrating e-steps. I’ll have to pick up a calliper soon, as I only had a metric ruler to try this with. Endless thanks for your clear instructions!

from the bottom of my heart thank you. I have been struggling to get this printer to work for two years now, even switching out the buildplate twice as well as swapping the drive motor and switching to a dual drive gear, which probably only execerbated the issue of a lack of calibration in the first place. For the first time in two years the printer has put out a well made first layer as well as actually printed without cracks between layers.

I totally forgot to re-calibrate the e-steps for my Ender-3 after switching to a 32bit motherboard. Took some time for me to figure out where the underextrusion problems came from, but now all the problems are solved.
And it was so super easy to set the new e-steps with the 4.2.7 board, it's unbelievable.

Thank you for doing this. It's fascinating how much a pain needing to shift 93.0 to 97.6 can cause.

  • @TomReinke89

I just got a new extruder for my printer and was wondering why it was printing so poorly. After a couple google searches I ended up here and it turns out my e steps needed to go from 93 all the way to 414.7.
Quite the change, definitely explains the under extrusion with the new extruder!
Thanks so much for this video it was concise and easy enough for us 3d printing noobs to understand.

  • @dankvwguy
    @dankvwguy ปีที่แล้ว +2

wow, this way is SOOOO much easier. for the last 6 years ive been doing the method of marking the filament before the extruder and half of the time youd start out with it sucking more than the line in which would require you to lower the value, mark again, and run it again. thank you for this!!!!

Thank you so so so so so so much. I have no idea why all the other videos had to be so complicated, i have been so overwhelmed with them. Tried doing the pronterface and had so much anxiety just trying to download it for me to now be stuck because i need to orderer a newer cable. Started looking into octoprint which then had me having to buy the raspberry pie thing and that's over my head. i just want to print a whole slew of flexi octopi without the small failure in the body/leg joint.
    thank you!

Someone down below noted this but it bears repeating, as I was aware of the "SAVE" setting but nevertheless totally forgot you need to SAVE your new setting before shutting down or (I believe)
it reverts to the prior setting you had before calibrating. GREAT VIDEO BTW !

WOW! that was so easy! Now I have to do all my machines. You can also do it on the back end also. I have a filament detector so I just measured backwards and see where it ended up, subtracted that from 100 and I proceeded with the calculation from there. Put me right on the mark.

I have this off brand SUNLU S8 and this worked well. My number went from 96 to 139. Huge change, but I also upgraded my extruder to an ender 3 dual extruder with steel gears, so I think that has something to do with the big jump. No broken parts or anything. I was having to print at 25% speed just to get the plastic to come out fast enough. Hope this helps someone as clueless as me!

Thank you for this vid bud. This got mine working perfect. But every time I turned my printer off it would go back to factory setting. 🤷🏼‍♂️ so I had to alter in the g-code in cura. But this did help me figure out what my printer was not doing. I tested it at 100mms and it was only putting out 65.5mms way off. I’m able to print things again yaaaaa🫶🏼👍🏼😁 thank you.

Never bothered with it as my ender 3 was working pretty well out of the box. Recently was noticing issues with walls and layer adhesion. Changed to a dual gear metal extruder and did the above, it was extruding 84 instead of 100! Dual gear feels too stiff even at loosest... Thanks for the quick and easy tutorial!

Something is clearly wrong with my Creality cr 10s5's extruder motor, I did the test and 4cm came out when I asked for 10cm . UGHHHHHH I had to jack up my steps from 93 to 233. I think the motor is F'd so I'm ordering a new one for all of $10 and some minor upgrades for a total of $30 bucks off Amz. Still thinking of ditching this unit, I've had it for over a year and it's never been perfect, thinking of changing to a Prusa. Hey thank you for a good and simple video, it really helped me and I like not having to plug my computer into the thing, I watched that video, I think was a little silly.
