You can’t compare a 50’s American car to anything other than another 50s American car. Nobody is cross shopping a 57’ coupe with a E31 840i, or an 81’ vette. Love the videos 🍺
When I was 11 a new family moved into our neighborhood. Their house smelled of cabbage and the parents had some numbers tattooed on the inside of their forearms. They spoke with a strong accent. They had a son my age who became a lifelong friend, and when he turned 16 in 1962 his dad presented him with a beautiful light green and white 1957 Chevy Bel-Air with the iconic 283 engine and 3 speed on the column, the same body as the car you are showing. I had thought his parents were poor and mine rich but mine never gave me diddly. Later I found out that his parents were frugal while mine spent all their money on fancy clothes, beer and parties. I spent my high school days in Dallas riding shotgun in that car and seeing your video brings that back. I don’t think he ever got it to 80 mph, and never felt the need. Mike was the cool kid with that car. He was olive skinned with straight black hair and I was his goofy curly sidekick. I felt the glow, but somehow the girls always went for him instead. Probably the Chevy.
JayEmm, the Fifties car styles were all about the jet age, going to the moon. Harley Earl of General Motors was in charge of design and was the inspiration for the "fin period."
Love it! As a kid in the 1950s with an ever increasing collection of Dinky Cars, the American cars were the pick of the crop for me, I've never lost that admiration for 1950s US cars
My dad had a 56 pillarless coupe, we did a lot of trips in that car. Amazing memories. An iconic piece of design. 38 grand sounds like an absolute BARGAIN. American cars from this era were pure art.
Not often fussed about the sound of a cars exhaust but have to say the burble on this is very addictive.....sure beats the sound of my Peugeot 106 diesel....
What a fabulous car, if this has not sold after this outing I will be very surprised. I love these early classics this one is such a fantastic beast and sounds super and obviously had a mint spent on it and coming from California is probably a great buy. If I was in the market for an American classic, this would have done very nicely. Thanks for a wonderful look at a great car!
Various sources put the weight at 3350-3500 lbs. It should be quick enough with 300 hp to need the modern tires, etc. I'd want seat belts. The headliner is fantastic.
For many a year the 57 Chevy was THE car to have for hotrodding. Even back in the day there was a Chevy dealer who had a number of 210 2-door sedans special ordered; with fuel injected 283's,with 283 HP and other goodies like truck brakes and a very special Duntov camshaft that would be helpful for racing. These trick 210's were so much faster than anything else in NASCAR ( even the big Chrysler Hemi's ) that they were banned.
Another upload? Another treat. Missed this earlier. Not my style of car but appreciate the variety and appreciate the engineering how some may like these.
Love it. Should have been red and called it Christine (I know, Christine was a Plymouth Fury) but the blue is cool. Love the sound. Really getting to know the roads around there now.
I saw a rear 3/4 aspect picture of the Chezoom when I was in my early teens in a surreptitiously acquired Playboy magazine (as one does...) and if I didn't pay attention to regular 57 Chevies before then, I certainly appreciated them after that. Any chance of a Lincoln Continental or a Cadillac Eldorado review to look forward to?
I was really impressed with the sound compared to the other classics he reviewed for a second, then I remembered it's ultimately a modern crate engine (definitely not a downside).
I am an a American hillbilly from the mountains of South eastern Kentucky and this is my creads. Now those 2 items on the what we call a hood are called gun sites. Now i to own a 1957 210 2 door station wagon its a resto-mod 4 wheel disc brakes ,5 speed gear box , 450+ hp 355 cu in small block Ford 9 in differential with 370 to 1 gear ratio 😀 want to race 😁😁😁😁
A car like this would be a great way to enjoy driving without risk of speeding tickets, licence suspensions, and/or jail. Though, a restomod should have seatbelts. It's not original so might as well increase you chance of surviving if worst comes to worst.
henryhol8538 All three models (150, 210 & BelAir) shared body styles, though the 150 did not offer a hardtop. The primary difference is trim level. The 150 had side trim much like the '55 Chevy with a single horizontal divider. the stock 210 would not have the insert between the two rear stripes (though this one does) and only the Belair would have gold colored emblems on the hood -this car originally came with chrome emblems. Finally the length to the chrome piece atop the fins on the 150 & 210 are short as we see on this car. the Belair had longer chrome pieces that nearly reached the rear window. Because of price difference, generally the belairs were ordered with more options. Sorry if I'm giving far more detail than you asked for. i.imgur.com/Gw6fUaH.jpg
@@philbarrows2431 That is exactly what I needed, I visit and film many classic car shows in the UK but very rarely come across these 50's Americana. I do hope buyers in the states don't end up restomoding all the examples left.
PLEASE JAMES MORE DECENT SHOTS OF THE EXTERIOR! Love your videos but the lack of decent exterior shots of the car really always let you down. I'm a fan but this seriously annoys me..
Yes, yes, yes... It's got the V8 sound, etc. But good god, it looks like an inside-out tart's boudoir. Still, if it floats yer boat, who am I to object?
My '63 Cadillac with 6.4l V8 does about 15mpg. My '74 Camaro does about 18mpg. Of course, cruising them, but in Switzerland with a lot of hills and also city traffic.
You think this is massive lol. It's no larger than a Honda Accord, and it's actually lighter; probably less than 3400#. In a car park, it'll stand out for its style, but not its size among modern SUVs.
Have to say I do agree, my fathers never had seatbelts and we did a lot of miles in that car but it always felt a bit dodgy without belts. Wouldn’t be hard to implement.
If you really want to wake the dead open up the what we Yanks call the electric cutouts and take her up to 6000 rpm in all the gears . I garontee you'll get Famous real fast take that from someone who knows . $$$$$$$ 😅🤣😂😁

Lovely story Yo mismo soy el regalo 😎👍
You know why they had those tattoos, right?
Spreading 105dB of freedom across the countryside.
These arn't my cup of tea. But I do like looking at them.

That's not a car, that's a 4 wheeled fantasy!
The exhaust valves would always have to be open for me that roar🤤😍
I like "wake up dead“ mode. And have to say price sounds reasonable.

Classic Chevys' (1955-1957) styling is just awesome!
One of my very favourite cars of all time. If I ever win the lottery this will be at the top of the list to buy.
Absolutely beautiful. 👍🏻

My dream car ever scents I was old enough to know what a 57 was I fell in love dam that is nice.
Best one of the series so far! I'd like seat belts in mine but that does look and sound good.
Would spice up the school run as well

The headliner is fantastic.
Nice to see a bit of love for the 210

This is great. I like the fact that your delving into the non boring side of the automotive world. Keep it up.

What an epic car... 👍
That's a very nice car, there is definitely a ton of money into it.
an automotive icon. love it. thanks & keep em coming. I must own one before I die!!
Love it. Should have been red and called it Christine (I know, Christine was a Plymouth Fury) but the blue is cool. Love the sound. Really getting to know the roads around there now.
Not usually my sort of thing but that noise! Superb
I've seen this car many times at car shows..unless they've switched plates.
Great review and video, what a cool car, definitely no particulate filter on that anyway...
What a nice review. I own a Harley FatBoy with open S&S exhausts and I feel exactly the same.
ahhhhh! the '57 chevy.... in my youth this was the car to mod. especially the engine. the '67 chevy was THE hot rodder's car.
What a lovely thing.
The number one American car ever made!!! On many lists. all you have to say is 57 Chevy in America. The most iconic car. Period
I love how this looks and sounds! Awesome job by the previous owner on the restomod as well, though not sure about that red leather...
The greatest of the Chevy "Tri-Five" cars.👌🏻🇺🇸
Thanks for the upload James this is my favourite American car would have one tomorrow if I had the cash.
A joy to watch !
Loving this American stuff
That’s an amazing beautiful car well worth 38k
This is nice. 70 chevelle is my fav and Nova
You can keep the vettes and the mustang. That thing is amazing.

Pardon my language , but you jammie bastard. I love the 55.56 & 57 Chevies. After the Rover P5 these are my dream car.

Your reviews just keep getting better and better ! Thanks
That first shot of the red interior made me jump, haha!
It can't be often that the Triangle of Doom reaches the dashboard!!!
Love it, a real life Hot Wheels👍
Beautiful car but I would have more standard wheels, maybe widened rim's for better handling
Now that’s a car 🚗

I'm in love!
Lovely sounding US classic. Electronic exhaust valves are so nice to have, if you have a NA V8😀 Was Clarkson hiding in the back ?
Not my cup of tea either but I can appreciate it :
Beautiful car, they don't make them like that anymore.

The '55 to '57 is called the tri-5 period.
Do a collab with Car Pervert 👍⭐️😎
I did offer!
That rear window lowered and raised fast, was the clip speeder up?
Nope!
A blot on the British landscape.
😅
Oh if I had the money....in a hot second.
Now your talking👍👍👍❤️👍 we were born the same year. ❤️❤️❤️
The "brand new" engine looks like a '50s or '60s unit. Is it a recon/ rebuild?
It's a new SBC engine from the GM catalogue.

A rare UK review of an American classic. What is the difference between this car and a Bel Air?

Awesome car!!!!
Car would make more money in the USA
Values of these cars are going down; the people that appreciate them are beginning to assume room temperature
Baaazinga!
Yes, yes, yes... It's got the V8 sound, etc. But good god, it looks like an inside-out tart's boudoir. Still, if it floats yer boat, who am I to object?
So 8 to 12 mpg???
At best
My '63 Cadillac with 6.4l V8 does about 15mpg. My '74 Camaro does about 18mpg. Of course, cruising them, but in Switzerland with a lot of hills and also city traffic.
1000th view
why's it got a bel air emblem on the dash... thought it was a 210
Borderline "pornography".... from an era when cars really had character!
thats not a restomod, its a restored car. Restomod has new style fuel injection engine, 4link rear etc...
You think this is massive lol. It's no larger than a Honda Accord, and it's actually lighter; probably less than 3400#. In a car park, it'll stand out for its style, but not its size among modern SUVs.
Barely 6k views 🙈What’s wrong with people! All they care about are smack-ferrying Audi’s...
Similar but not as nice as the Bel Air
All that work for a so called restomod and yet didn’t bother with seat belts? Utter stupidity!
Have to say I do agree, my fathers never had seatbelts and we did a lot of miles in that car but it always felt a bit dodgy without belts. Wouldn’t be hard to implement.

congrats on recording ZERO reactions to the car from people as you drive by.
We pretty much didn't go past any people... and there are potential legal issues of filming people and putting them in your videos
Ruined it with the automatic and those wheels.
