The Milwaukee Sentinel has an old early automatic Haughton next to a very old automatic call, but manual operate inside elevator with the metal outer door and inner scissors gate. During the six years I worked as a janitor for the Journal Sentinel, I only saw the inside of that museum piece once. The power had long been turned off, but I was told the elevator was still operational.
It would be nice if they could restore it. I don't know if there are technicians left who understand these beautiful old machines. It would be heartbreaking to replace it with an ugly modern elevator.
plush &vacuum fan 224 I agree. That elevator goes SUPER FAST for an old elevator. 5 feet per second is extremely fast for an elevator of the early 1900s. The 1972 OTIS elevator @ SEARS in the Staten Island Mall only goes 1.5 FT per second. I've watched videos of other geared elevators that go 8 feet per second in 26 story buildings. The fastest elevator I've been on was the GE building in NYC and it served 70 floors / it went 26 1/2 feet per second for 28 seconds.
There used to be an Otis manually controlled elevator like this at an old building in downtown Des Moines but it got TOTALLY replaced by KONE lately. :(
Actually it is a shame since the state I live in came up with a stupid law a year ago saying all old elevators that were installed before 1975 must be modernized for "safety reasons" by may 2020. I get that safety is important, but some just don't know how historic the old elevators are. This is the new Iowa workforce development Elevator law by the way.
Debby Tanaka OTIS is a great elevator company I road their modernized elevators in the Empire State Building and they felt like they were high rise OTIS GeN2's. I wouldn't blame them for a stuck OTIS elevator. I would blame whoever is maintaining them.
I really hope Otis and other brands technicians nearing retirement volunteer to teach the younger fellow and some gals, too, how to work on these vintage working museum pieces. Not many of them around any more. Typically they're found in historic buildings, but haven't been used in years as one of a pair was likely modernized at some point in the 50s or 60s. That's the case at the old Milwaukee Sentinel building where I used to work.
Jamie Woods I'm upset that OTIS doesent make such pieces of beauty now they make MRL which are boring to ride because you can't control the motor on the elevator! I want their next innovation to be geared OTIS GEN2 which has the old crank handle. In fact, I want it to have a spin handle that you have to spin the handle one way to make it go up and another way to make it go down. That would be a real cool elevator and even little kids would think it's a toy.
upanddownadventures I hope OTIS brings modern versions of this elevator for 1/2 the prices of their GeN2 and i also hope that they make an MRL version of this geared elevator as well this is too cool I never get to operate those things the only "cool" elevators I get to operate are MRL elevators and the Westies at CoCoKey Mount Laurel NJ Hotel ML. Maybe this summer I may film me operating a geared elevator.
welcome to modern political correctness. It's what those on top want and why we voted for Trump as Bush and Obama are all in on it. He doesn't play ball with the global elite. Whatever they got planned for "the system" is slowly being derailed.
I run a Elevator Training centre and I Like this type information. Thank you
I didn't know elevators were a fascination. Now I'm fascinated!

Clean up the relays and the control rheostat, spray Deoxit on all the contacts and it should work nicely...
I love her southern drawl
video should be titled:

I love her southern drawl

That motor sounds neat

Super Techno Cat Wow,really depends, there's a day that their work expires and it's better give up and modernize
DieselDucy Stuck In Floor Basement DieselDucy Gets Elevator Working
Debby Tanaka OTIS is a great elevator company I road their modernized elevators in the Empire State Building and they felt like they were high rise OTIS GeN2's. I wouldn't blame them for a stuck OTIS elevator. I would blame whoever is maintaining them.
Ours does that too because too many people know how to run it now.
How did you end up visiting Menard Manor, Texas? That is off the beaten path.
How did it get stuck on the basement?
Used to be a hotel? What is it now?
Is that the only elevator in that building
@dieselducy I bet you're right.
not a full. just the motor which is a moderate . also buttons not manual
Unfortunately, I FAIL at manually controlled elevators.
what happend why did it not go.
you need to shut the door fiercily to start working
I think Schindler should modernize this one.
MegaZeldafan1 😤
Elevator mods are bullshit
This elevator is from 1928.
it is epic :) Thanks for the info!
The woman saying 'Shit' disturbed you? Trust me you're gonna hear much more disturbing things than that in life xD

+technicalboy “techgeek5000” 3000 that sounds so old and outdated. no offense
Superduper Julien STILL it's beautiful compared to series 7!
Not really. Elevators like that were awesome for their time, but it would be non ada compliant and outdated for a new building.
Superduper Julien because they claim that Otis series 7 is beautiful, yet it's just your usual elevator buttons
0:29 1 floor down than the lobby
1 floor down than the lobby floor
Hate to say it, but this needs a full mod. :(
alpalJL 😠
Is this elevator used anymore?
upanddownadventures I hope OTIS brings modern versions of this elevator for 1/2 the prices of their GeN2 and i also hope that they make an MRL version of this geared elevator as well this is too cool I never get to operate those things the only "cool" elevators I get to operate are MRL elevators and the Westies at CoCoKey Mount Laurel NJ Hotel ML. 2016 video
That elevator was glitchy
Why it should be a stupid hydraulic elevator with SILVER COLORED WALLS?
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Are you kidding me?
Get off the Internet if that disturbed you... wow
Dn. Up esey
She's a bit temperamental, but beautiful nonetheless!
Merry Chirstmas
Please Say To Me Merry Hanuka Because I"m Jewish
No offense intended, but I seriously don't understand why people are offended by certain words. Could you perhaps shed some light on this?
