  • I loaded up the Honda Grom with camping gear and spent a night motorcycle-camping in the mountains of the Hunter Valley. The video features some local wildlife, drone footage of Congewai, and a section on what I pack for such a trip.

    The Grom is actually has great small adventure bike potential with the gas mileage. If you had an extra gallon gas tank on the back, it would do wonders.

    The soft music during the drone flight from the hilltop was the highlight of my day. Seriously. Thanks for that.

      That track would be "Flickering" by VYEN, which I found in the TH-cam Audio Library.

    I’m from the U.K. but was working in the Hunter 2 years ago, lovely place, shame I didn’t have time to enjoy that much.
    First Grom I got to sit on was the Honda dealer in Newcastle!!

    Wow! This is really inspiring. I love the idea of such a simple, small bike out there instead of the heavy bike I've taken camping. Looks like a wonderful, relaxing time.

      It's nice to be able to pick the bike up without help if you tip it over. And it helps to have some lightweight hiking/camping gear too.

      That's the plan. Still in research phase at the moment, lots of Grom riders have recommended Pirelli SL60's. The stock suspension feels a bit ordinary too.

    Thats sick man, exactly what I want to do, I prefer a hennessy hammock jungle though, with integrated pad to avoid 'coldbutt'. I wonder how much power the Grom alternator outputs/how fast it can charge a usb power delivery 45w device? Would be awesome to have it function as a generator as well.

    • @WildStuff
      @WildStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just slip a sleeping pad into my hammock and it serves the purpose. I show off my sleep system in a little more detail in my video "Snow at the Barrington Tops (Hiking/Hammock-Camping the Corker Trail) August 2019" if you're interested in having a look. I can't comment the Grom's abilities as a generator though, I find a 10,000mah powerbank is enough to get me through a weekend.

      Thank you.
      Trips like this I enjoy doing alone, I prefer the peace and quiet. I'm not much of a mechanic though, so if the bike were to refuse to start then I'd have to phone a friend. I always breathe a sigh of relief when the bike/car starts successfully when I'm about to leave.

    What brand of panier bags and duffel bags are you using? Great video.

    • @WildStuff
      @WildStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The pannier bags are by 'Ogio', I bought them used and knocked around on the cheap, but have seen them in shops for about $200AUD. The duffel bag in the video was just a cheap Black Wolf from a camping shop, since then I've upgraded to a 'First Gear' waterproof one with tie down attachment points.

    • @WildStuff

      The snake was so humiliated by the Grom's sheer awesomeness, it took to the hills and was never seen again.

      @@ThankyouJesus4444 I made that crash video before I got the x-rays back from the hospital. Turned out to be a few broken ribs - and I had my provisional riders test booked in for the next weekend. Ended up passing the test while doped up on painkillers & anti-inflammatories.

    So how did you even get your grom up to 80 with gear on it? Mine tops out at like 65 going down hill with only me on it and I’m only a 120 pounds 😂

    • @WildStuff

    Curious, what was your top speed with all that gear?

    • @WildStuff
      @WildStuff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never really did a top-speed with the gear to find out, though I had no problems doing 80km/h on the way out to this location. I think I was briefly around the 100km/h mark on another camping trip on a gentle downhill with the wind at my back, though cruising at 85-90 was more realistic.

      I sold the Grom to a friend so I still get an occasional quick ride on it for old time's sake, but I find it very uncomfortable compared to my newer bikes, and am usually keen to give it back after just 5 or 10 minutes.

    What pannier bags are those?

    • @WildStuff
      @WildStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They say "Ogio" on the side. They have 2 large velcro straps that just sit over top of the seat, and an extra strap/clip that goes under the rear fender, so it's easy to lift them on and off easily. They expand and have built in rain covers too. I bought them used from a friend when I got my Grom.
