      It definitely is allowed, and *must* be allowed! We, the people, decide whether we like or dislike the content of what comes out of our MPs' mouths. And it's our choice to (re-)elect them or otherwise. The Speaker doesn't (and shouldn't) have the power to force an elected representative to say or not say anything.

    • @NotMoreGames
      @NotMoreGames 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We the people have the power to vote every five years - that’s all the power we get. We did not choose the pm or other ministers . Our power to influence the conduct of minsters is nearly zero- nothing compared to quangos, big companies, party donations, etc. The speakers role allowing questions to go unanswered would not be tolerated by judges in courts if witnesses gave these kind of “don’t care” answers.

      The MPs have to be free to say (or not say) whatever it is that they want to say. It's us, the people, who get to put them in their place (or remove them from it!) - it isn't her job to dictate to my MP what he should say. If people don't like their MPs turning up at the dispatch box and saying "Ditto" then they can, and should, vote them out. The reason the Tories are polling so badly right now is because they're useless and people like you and I can see it from these debates. But censorship or enforced speech is not the job of The Speaker. Their job is simply to keep order and ensure that a debate takes place. They aren't there to aid or assist or disable the MPs at making or not making useful contributions.

      Unfortunately I find myself agreeing more and more with The Speaker on these matters. The moment the speaker starts to force MPs to say or not say certain things is the moment that our representatives lose their voice and lose the ability to represent their constituents. If the MP is not doing a good job, then their constituents can let this be known at the ballot box. This is how our democracy works and has worked for hundreds of years.

    That arrogant minister should most certainly be rebuked - publicly for his manner.
    If the question had really been answered previously then the Minister should provide a Hansard reference to the answer supplied previously so that the questioner could assess whether the previous answer was fully fitting as a response to the question posed at the current time.
    How very rude and condescending of him to behave in such a manner.
