Really like this video and I have subscribe to Your Channel. You point out a very very valid point when you mentionned that carving a trystick is a good way to evaluate a knife. To many people review knife by slamming them as a chopper or batonning when the most usefull tasks you need to perform with a knife turns arround carving.

+Laurent Gouzou AKA Lynx1963 thank you! Very much appreciated. I feel the same way. That's why I try to review a knife while performing a useful task. Thanks for watching, and subbing.

A decent video. Just a couple of points: A proper try stick should be stripped of bark first. This not only enables you to see the actual material you're working with (the wood), but will save the edge on you knife by not having to first get through the bark all the time before getting to the wood. Also, per 1:41, that is incorrect. A "bevel" is applied to the end of a stick to stop it from splitting when struck, such as a tent peg.

Foxwalk Primitive Went really well and had fun doing it. I did cut my finger when doing the 90° planes. We had a huge storm on the east coast and have no power. So I would say there will be another try srick done sitting in front of the fire place.

A small correction, Mors took the try stick idea from the boy scouts actually and says he did.

+Andre Larocque good to know! Thanks! I've gotten a few things from old scout manuals, myself, but never saw the try stick in one. That's awesome.
