I'm also old school, well I'm just getting old at almost 50 now. I loved the first game as it was the closest thing to Unreal that was out there. Kind of Unreal meets Halo meets Portal. I'm excited for this revision of the game as I still love Arena shooters and think they need a full revival. But I'm a little put off by the classes and was hoping they wouldn't. However it doesn't appear to have the impact on the match that something like Overwatch does. I hope they keep the abilities minimal so the focus is still on skill and map design.
Not a fan of the new direction, I prefer the typical arena shooter vibe of simply picking up weapon spawns and it was just all about portals, map knowledge and skill. I only wanted SG1 but with better competitive maps that has easier to understand landmarks for callouts.
100% agreed. Played it maybe 15 minutes, hit uninstall and moved on with my day. I'm sure there is a player base that will like this, but I highly doubt it will be the SG1 community.
I was genuinely looking forward to this game, but I really do not enjoy the direction that SG2 is going. All the class abilities, weapon loadouts, attachments, etc all just bogs down the gameplay. I've played the alpha and it plays well, but I do not enjoy it. I just wanted even arena starts.
I knew you guys were going to be like this with the alpha, look I know you guys don't like attachments and factions and classes and it's fine for you to not like it but I like the direction because basically it gives me more options and ways the plays the game more better and I always wanted new weapons and maps from the first game so this is fine.
@marquintabell5307 More options means less balance. That was what made the first game so unique in an industry littered with class and ability shooters.
@@Bebop-n-Djent why would you need more balance than less options? I'm I get it that the first didn't have any of this but there was some point that it was they just didn't have much budget for it and everyone left the first game because the new content was coming in slowly.
@marquintabell5307 I like Overwatch and it has abilities. That is not the reason that I enjoyed or wanted to play Splitgate and the even arena starts was what made it unique.
yeah but will the ability even map to the controller you gotta give up buttons in SG1 because portals take 4 slots ...like maybe button combos for ability idk but i really hope its good splitty was my comfort food when halo messed the bed
@@billylionisnotagoatI’m sure there will be a classic control scheme, even if they modify the base controls. Keep in mind this is still going to be a slightly different game.
I have been having quite a bit of fun with Splitty 2 tbh. I honestly only have 2 problems, matches feeling too short due to the round based nature of the game & the fact that you can close 1 portal at a time and have to close both at the same time.
@@misterqwuan2530 Arena shooters are characterized by even starts, where players must fight over powerups and weapons....in an arena. SG2 is NOT an arena shooter. There is no high horse here, words just have specific meanings.
@@WtfteamALJM The only reason Arena Shooters are characterized by even starts is because that's the only thing Halo kept when it bastardized the formula. Quake Champions is 10 times the arena shooter than any Halo game and it doesn't even have even starts.
I tried the game last night and I also had a similar sentiment. I LOVED Splitgate 1 and I really hoped this game would just be an extension of that. I enjoyed playing the Splitty 2 Alpha so far, but I kinda wish they had leaned more into the existing fanbase and just making Splitgate 2 a more polished Arena Shooter with portals. I personally think the abilities feel a bit like an afterthought, and many choices feel like they were likely made for marketing reasons and not for the sake of the game's identity.
Honestly really feeling this game. Usually I don't really like lots of movement but I feel like this hit the spot and the abilities are cool and not too game changing and it takes forever for it to even charge. I just wish the maps were a bit better. They don't have enough places for portals and the portals do not feel like the main thing .
personally i gave feedback asking for deeper weapon customization cause these games usually fall into the trap of just remaking quake again, it definitely lets you play around more, similar to titanfalls sandbox in that way.
My biggest problems with SG2 are: 1. The slower movement speed. Makes travelling around the map a chore unless you're portalling around the map. 2. The faster time to kill. This is combination with the slower movement speed just feels like I have no time to react. 3. And that there's no portal blocking anymore. So anyone at anytime can flank me by replacing my portal with theirs.
What I noticed in my second playthrough of the game is that the support equipment Time Dome is beyond broken just equip extended mags and rapid fire and you'll win every fight because you shoot so dam fast and you'll most likely kill everytime if your aiming for the head. Idk how I feel about the classes and skills..... personally they should of kept it old school but I guess there trying to spice things up a bit which I like.
Good video. Honestly though, I feel like if they did not do something different, (like the factions) there is almost no point besides the better graphics to make a sequel to the first game. I am really exited to see what they do with it in the early access release and I think that the factions are a fun twist for the sequel. everyone can have their own opinions though.
quit talking shit the original splitgate got boring real quick. the original splitgate feel is still here and thats whats important. my point is stop crying lol this game is good
I loved the first game but honestly just wanted it to have a bigger, more interesting sandbox. That's part of what keeps Halo 3 fun all these years later. But this looks fun!
Does anyone remember Unreal Tournament? Probably one of the best arena shooters for millennials. Regarding Splitgate 2 - I'm going to sign up - looks fun.
My main complaint about SG2 is the new movement system. The slide, like you said, feels like its there just to check a box and not actually useful in many situations. I also fear that visual clutter is gonna be a huge deal in this game later down the line. There is always so much stuff happening on your screen contrary to how simple SG1 was. Maybe I'm just out of practice, but it doesn't feel like you can be as creative with portals because of the way the maps are laid out. There is like 1 portal momentum play I have found and its in the tutorial. I do believe once this thing hits it's full release it will be phenomenal and blow SG1 out of the water.
Nah, if I wanted classes with different abilities I'd play overwatch, if I wanted loadouts I'd play CoD or something. I liked Splitgate because it was a simple arena FPS but with portals. I'm probably not gonna play 2.
im not that old school i didnt really grow up with unreal, quake, or even halo(did play halo 3 coop campaign with my cousin but thats besides the point). sg2 is cool and all but i also def like the straight arena play more of sg1. the gunplay is decent in 2, but im really not liking the map design. it feels very limited and much more based on knowing the map fully and only using specific portals vs the portal and go with 1. i didnt play 1 all that long, but i enjoyed it. and the abilities im not the biggest fan of either. abilities in general is fine, but idk about here. from what i played in the beta, it seemed that the wallhack faction with the burst rifle was king. it felt like anytime i used anything else it felt so weak. like any of the ars or the speed factions smg. ik the shotguns are strong but it didnt feel like the move for this game. if anything it just made me want to pull out sg1 again instead. oh and the attachmets are eh. not too bad, but could go without em
Nice to see all the grumpy Grandpas around here ;) But i agree with you, a classic arena shooter means everyone is the same, you fight for the power weapons. I guess they were a bit forced by the investors to add the trending features. Still looking forward for updates and beta.
This looks fun but I’m worried it will be a bit overwhelming for me like a lot of other fps games. I’ve only really played Halo, if I jump into this when it releases do you think it will be overwhelming with the speed/movement and abilities?
I like slow movement games so I might check this out the first one didn’t really do it for me when I saw gameplay of it. This looks like Halo I’m into it.
Couldn't the developers add a arena style fps mode? With the traditional weapon/power pickups around the map? They should have the flexibility to do so. The DNA core gunplay and portal play is there.
I don’t really know how to feel about this game. I remember really enjoying the first one with my friends, but the devs giving up on it has created a lot of distrust in this game amongst my friend group, and I even the see much of that sentiment online. I just really wish a multiplayer shooter would release that embrace being more of something we have not seen or have not seen in a while.
As someone who only casually played SG1, I can see myself enjoying this a good bit. The new direction isn’t as much of a turn off for me personally but I get the dislike from the core community. Having more content and systems to engage with can definitely keep the casual player involved longer I feel. With some tuning through the alpha and extra game modes that still provide more of that arena vibe I think there’s a lot of potential here. Plus, there’s still not a whole lot of options for non-Battle Royale or Overwatch-Clone games so there’s still a market. I also think that a lot of the core audience in the comments here will come around a bit as the game gets closer to release. It’s natural to be annoyed when it’s not the same that you really loved, but that will likely lessen over time IMO.

I tried Splitgate 1 and it was alright to me but Splitage 2 im ALL IN. The factions and the abilities and attachments, it is just the game I would need to give up Destiny PVP.
I would prefer Titanfall 2 style abilities over Destiny or Apex style characters/classes. Like each player can choose one ability - either fast heals or walls, not both. Or like the Halo way of making abilities pickups. Character/class based fps's have overstayed their welcome imo
The game is fun but IMO portals need some sort of cooldown. I know you made a point about only top 1% of players abusing portals but as time goes on it will increase to 5% and then 10%. For the game to last there needs to be a check on the skill ceiling.
Not only are the abilities a downgrade, but so are the maps. Splitgate 1 was able to have open areas while having tight spaces in-between. This just feels waaay too open.
Would it be so bad if they just copied Apex Legend's slide and combined it with the jetpacks? It feels like every game I've played has made Apex's slide but worse. Sliding should be to preserve your momentum and together with jetpacks this could create some really fun movement if players had ways to build speed. Add portals and this could be insane. Or maybe they don't want the game to be too sweaty? But triple portal is really good anyway.
