Had to put my 90 year father in nursing home recently, but proud of him for taking good care of his 99 Suburban (4WD/5.7L). Has 506,000 miles on it. He always replaced any part that need replacing as soon it wore out.
And before it hits 250k miles will need a new tranny. A friend of mine bragged about his Chevy too, called him a month later and told me he had to replacd the tranny.
We have a 2004 Dodge 3500 5.9 24valve 6 speed manuel flatbed. It has a tuner, a dual disc clutch, after market turbo. It has 530,000 miles on the original engine and trans. It is still daily driven and pulls a 30,000 lbs trailer everyday.
My brother has a 2001 Ford Taurus original 3.0L 24valve Duratec with the original transmission over 264,000 miles driven daily. As my truck I have a 99 f250 with the 5.4L with 231,6xx miles on the original engine. Never had any issues with my truck and is driven daily and the mileage goes up daily.
My 95 Chevy K2500 has 321,000 miles on it right now. On the original 454, 4l80, and rear end. Basically no rust, was a mountain truck it’s whole life. It’s my daily driver, I still use it to tow, haul, and take it offroad. It’s the best pickup I’ve ever owned. I highly recommend the 88-98 Chevy trucks.
Redneck Operations amen to that! I have a 95 K1500 350 tbi and it runs like a top, original engine and 4l60e with 230,000 miles. I want to buy a 454, 4l80 truck next!
1998 1500 5.7 460LE, 513,000km, all original drive-train. These trucks will keep going and going as long as you change the fluids regularly from day 1. Three rads, one water pump, one alternator have been the only repairs since new besides regular maintenance brakes/tires/hoses.
Damn dude thats alot of miles I thought my 2000 Silverado 1500 z71 had a lot of miles at 375000 miles. Its all original with one tranny rebuild I tow 8,500k trailer pretty often.
Excellent ! Ive got a 99 silverado 4x4 5.3 gas i bought used for 8500 a yr ago and it had only 73k original miles from an 88 yr old man that only used it to pull his boat. Its got 80k on it now and has undergone $4000 in upgrades and love that ive done to it. The 99's with 5.3 do have piston slap due to too short of skirts of pistons only when cold, BUT this is a super strong and torquey truck that has been very reliable. GM released a formal statement acknowledging the piston issue and claims will not prevent these trucks from achieving over 300k miles. Thank you for your channel. Im a fan! I can only wonder what this truck might achieve over time, but i plan to sell with in the next 20k miles and go newer tundra. Thanks again, keep up the good work. Also, from your other video i saw u had a red 5.0 mustang. I too was a big fan of this type of car. I had a 1990 black on black 5.0 GT that i loved loved loved! With upgrades also. Hey, great minds! Thanks again.
Couldn't agree more. Any Diesel pre-1997 is Smog exempt in California and the price is skyrocketing in the used market. $25K for a used 4x4 Diesel! Of course, it would cost almost $100K for the same rig new! Bunch of crap. DEALERS Regularly Advertise $10K off MSRP! so you know the profit margin is huge. Greedy bastards.
I have a 2007 F-250 6.0 PowerStroke.. I bought it 4 yrs ago for $19 k .. I’m about to spend 19k,for lack of better terms, on a Bulletproof rebuild. I’ve been on the fence about spending that amount of money... But when I look at a 90k truck payment, the decision is made. Let me know what y’all would do.. Thanks
Awesome Video, I have a 2001 5.3 Chevy Vortech, with over 272.000 miles, Still going strong, Transmission was replaced once, over the years it has had the fuel pump replaced, very Common with theses trucks , Thanks again.
My '99 Ford F-150 has just under 250k miles. Both the engine and transmission are original, and haven't been rebuilt. Still never fails to start. I just got to get the tags updated.
My longest runner was a 72 Chev Caprice. It had well over 300,000 miles with no repairs except water pump, shocks, alternator, brakes and exhaust system. A 400ci V-8. It was during the nationwide 50mph speed limit and miles were mostly highway trips. To what extent those conditions contributed to the trouble free miles I cannot say, but it is the most reliable vehicle I have owned.
I had a '67 Caprice I bought my new after getting out of the army. It had a 327ci. I had lifter/rocker arm problems regularily. That was the nicest looking car I have owned, color Royal Plum 2dr hardtop, black vinyl top, purple interior, unfortunately the paint faded more quickly than it should have
My 2000 Chevy Suburban is currently at 408,000 miles on original engine and transmission. Friends Chevy Silverado just hit 500,000 original engine and transmission. Great vehicles.
Ian Heard mine was too 5speed & 4x4 only major things I’ve ever did over yrs was (owned it from 2000 till death in 2016) 2 clutch replacements , 1st one i did myself, 2 fuel pump replacements also did myself, & radiator replacement in 2014 , & some sensers here & there over the yrs, it only had 67,000 miles on it when I brought it & 300,000 + at time of death (tree fell on it from hurricane Matthew , still sealed factory engine , original water pump, & the automatic hubs wore out & replaced them with manual huds, the automatic replacement one were too expensive lol
You forgot the ford ranger. I've seen a lot with 300 to 400miles my dad has a 98 mazda ranger with the 495,000 on it right now bought it brand new in 1998. I had a 2003 f150 with 400,000 till someone it me and had another one with 275k . I've been blessed with some good trucks

2008 expedition 5.4 180.000. Just replaced the timing chains $1200 repair but it’s paid for. 2013 F150 3.5 eco boost 114,000. Most miles, 260,000 1997 f150 5.4, had some issues at 220 my father in law still has it but idk if it runs.
My 2011 Chevy 3500, 6.6, has over million miles. Speedometer stopped at 999,999 Using my trip meter for keeping track now. Truck runs great, still hauling trailers all over USA daily. Change my oil every 10,000-12,000 miles. Original engine and original transmission replaced at 840,000 miles. Last truck was a 2004 Ford F250 diesel 6.0, got 770,000 miles. Love my Chevy more. Next truck will be a Chevy.

I have 2008 Silverado with 108,000.. purchased new, just took it in to have all the fluids changed. It should last me over 400k . I will make sure I keep an eye on the burning oil issues.
If it's the 4.8 and not the 5.3 then it should last a long time. The 5.3 from 2007 and up are not reliable and burn oil. If you have the 5.3 with cylinder deactivation I would put a tuner on it and deactivate the cylinder activation on it.
My 1994 F150 Ext Cab 4x4 302 5 speed had 780,000 miles on it when it got parked. The body was like swiss cheese & the transfer case was getting weak ,but was running when I parked it. I used Full Synthetic Oil from brand new & used full Synthetic fluids for everything else!
I have a 95 Dodge Dakota 318 4x4 with over 300k, never had any major issues and somehow it survived being abused on the farm, survived my highschool years of neutral drops, burn outs, racing, towing over 11k and getting it stuck in mud pits and it still goes today, everything works, 4x4, transmission and engine. Only problem ever from engine was a timing chain cover that had to be replaced. Next I have a 96 Dodge Ram V10, 4x4, 5spd with over 500k, it spent the first half of its life towing horse trailers all over the country, then we bought it to tear up on the farm and it has been a beast. Gone over the scales at 32k, still runs great, I am driving it to a construction site today. It has only had the 5th gear nut come loose once and the vacuum line for 4x4 has had to be replaced several times because it gets caught on all kinds of stuff driving through pastures, terrible design. Finally I have an 07 Dodge Ram 5.9, 4x4 with 380k, it doesn't count because the whole truck is after market and my daily driver. The whole engine was pulled and rebuilt and balanced, big turbo added, transmission is fully built, driveline, dual CP3 pumps, injectors, etc. It makes 800hp to the wheels and I have beaten the dodge Charger Hellcat with it. It doesn't count because it's all after market and it costs a lot of money to keep this thing running perfect when it's making 300% over stock and has all the bells and whistles to be making over 1300hp with just another turbo and larger injectors.
My 2000 E-350 van has 593,500 miles all it has needed over that time is a alternator and two fuel pumps no engine rebuilds same engine since new and same transmission never changed the transmission fluid still shifts alright and gets down the road. Has the 5.4L V8 Triton before the three valve design.
The first gen dodges ran ran forever standard Tranys were thebest, I know several between 650,000 and 800’000 that were traded off just because the guys driving them wanted new ones and they were all sorry they traded, because their old was better
I have a 97 Ram 2500 with the 12 valve 5.9 diesel motor (6bt) and the odometer stopped working at 601,000 miles. It stopped working 3 years ago so im sure I have over 700,000 original miles by now. I have rebuilt the transmission, replaced the head gasket, and installed head studs in order to handle other motor modifications. The weakest link in these trucks is the crappy transmission behind arguably the best diesel motor ever built. I feel like his info was biased.... he called a 3 way tie yet the dodge rams had nearly double the mileage of most the other manufacturers....how is that a tie? The dodge definitely wins the shittiest seats competition though!!
There's a ton of trucks out there Chevy,Ford and dodges with over 5ook. Trucks are indeed built to last around that 500k mark before timing chains break. Cars about 300k. Just because he dosent have em iv seen 100s in my life. All 3 manufacturers are fine. Each has there quarks
My 2000 ( 1500 series) 5.3l Suburban has 247k on it . Runs like a champ. When the guy at the alinement shop showed me the worn out tie rods, idler and pitman arm, I said how much? He said 758.62. So, I spent 800.00 for a few tools I did not have and the parts to completely rebuild it. Every bushing , ball joint, bump stop, shock ect. Now it is like driving a brand new truck.. I plan to drive my paid for gem for many years to come.
I’ve read that the engines with cylinder de-activation were prone to excess oil consumption and complete failure.I never liked the idea of banks of cylinders shutting down,no matter how seamless it might be.
No it wasn’t, it was so beat up though, it was like a farm truck. The read end was like hit by a tractor and the axle was sideways with the bed all crunched up on the drivers side. But the engine still ran.
I didn't see the Silverado 8.1 V8. I have a 2001 with hundred eighty thousand miles on it still runs like a top has Allison Transmission. Thank you for your video appreciate it very much does help if I decided by another used truck
I have a 1500 2006 Chevy Silverado that has 220,000 miles on it. Unfortunately the transmission broke at 220,000 miles. The engine burns oil but runs very well overall. The truck also has some rust, a broken leaf bracket and the power steering unit leaks. The 4 wheel drive also has issues. I've considered putting a new transmission in this vehicle because I heard these trucks can last over 400,000 miles. I also don't want to spend over $ 40,000 on a new truck. Do you think it would be worth putting in a new transmission. A new transmission with labor and taxes would cost $5,000.00. Please send your advise on this issue. I value your recommendation. Thank you for your time.
First truck 1989 GMC 4x4 350 5 speed manual work truck sold it with 210k still running. Second truck, 1998 Dodge Ram 5.2 Magnum 2wd auto with 258k, just sold it the other day.

We have a Silverado Z71 1995. It has 428,442 miles on original engine and transmission. Only the intake manifold gaskets were replaced. The frame has rusted to the breaking point, still runs but she is parked. We bought it new with 12 miles on it. It does not leak or burn oil or ATF.
thats supposed to be one of the worst ford v8 engines, especially if poorly maintained. My dad has a 2006 with the 5.4 and the only problems with it was a sticky thermostat and a loose ignition coil terminal both at 150k
Thanks for this. Currently shopping for a used crew cab with a max budget of $6500. There are HUNDREDS of 04-08 F150s out there, many with rebuilt or replaced engines. I’m afraid of the 5.4 Triton as a result of my research. I’m trying to convince my wife a Tacoma Crew Cab with 200k miles is a safer bet than anything else with 140-170k miles.
I live in Texas and looking at your red truck, that's what I'm looking for. What year is your red truck, how many miles did it have on it? Regular cab v8? Did you buy from a used car lot? Thanks!
cemetery76 i know right. I have always checked it and looked at the color. The truck does have a factory towing package so it has transmission cooler and all that good stuff. Which is something you not see on the 4.2.
I have a 2003 Silverado with a 4.8 V8 engine. I bought it from the dealership brand new, now 18 years later I have 210,000 miles on it and it still runs like a clock! Maintenance will determine the life of your truck. I change the oil before the oil life meter is at 20%. They really are damn good trucks. My wife bugs me about getting a new car but I just say nope! Mine runs fine.
GA, I Live in Parkville md, and purchased a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z-71 in 2015! The vehicle had over 200,00 miles and now I’m at well over 400,000!
You need to factor in the number of vehicles produced, with the number that reached 400k plus miles. This will give you the odds of a particular vehicle lasting that long.
Chevy's burning oil is caused by the variable engine timing. Reset the engine computer or buy the plug in economy bypass to stay v8 all the time. The oil consumption problems will go away.
96 k1500 5.7L 360k original miles on engine and transmission , still runs good . Looking too buy a newer model that's as dependable . (2014-17 ) any suggestions . Looking at another Chevy Silverado OR Toyota tundra
2004 Chevy Suburban Z71 with 5.3L @ 330,000 to date. Bought it used in 2008 with 80k. Has some electrical quirks, but original engine and transmission. Also 2006 Mercury Milan V6 @ 192,188. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cab that I bought new with only 20 miles. I have over 250,000 miles on my truck. Question I have: I don't won't to buy a new truck. I haven't had any major problems with my engine or transmission, but I am worried that it's coming. So what can I do or what to prolong my truck??? Especially for my engine and transmission. Also, will long distance driving hurt my truck at this juncture with high mileage???
#1, if an engine has been rebuilt, nothing counts!
@Francisco Nieves The problem is you can make anything last forever if you keep rebuilding it. At some point the only thing original is the VIN tag.
I replaced literally everything at least twice but I have over a million miles on it! No. No you don't.

That 4l06 or whatever the 5.3 4 speed auto is called has a bad rap for losing reverse but after it is rebuilt 👌
You'd be f***** if it was an automatic
It's all luck of the draw and/or religious maint. I got a buddy who had to completely rebuild is 04 Cummins at just over 140k...
Daniel Salmon yep that’s why we bought that one because of the manual
gains3199 our is still daily driven 200 miles a day with a 30, 000 lbs trailer behind it
Hicks it got a built trans at 150, 000 miles
Neighbor bought a 2001 silverado 5.3 I was with him when he got it has almost 600,000 miles stock motor
Ok
I bought used same truck great trucks
Got the same powertrain on my Yukon and man can those things last. Clocking in at almost 300k miles.
And I hate GM.
I have a 99 1500 with a 5.3 coming up on 250,000 and runs perfect all original never missed an oil change every 3k miles and regular maintenance
@@78fordtruck4 you mean ford right? Haha old chevs are bulletproof
So is it a safe bet to buy this 2016 Chevy 2500 I want with 148k mi for only $22k
I love my 1998 Chevrolet K3500!
Redneck Operations amen to that! I have a 95 K1500 350 tbi and it runs like a top, original engine and 4l60e with 230,000 miles. I want to buy a 454, 4l80 truck next!
98 k1500 5.7L 433,000 KM original motor and trans still my daily driver!
1998 1500 5.7 460LE, 513,000km, all original drive-train. These trucks will keep going and going as long as you change the fluids regularly from day 1. Three rads, one water pump, one alternator have been the only repairs since new besides regular maintenance brakes/tires/hoses.
I have a 99....454 it is a stud
theres two million mile tundras out there...
1st gen? damn my 2000 has 127K lol
People hate on Toyota’s. Only ones that do hate have never owned one lol
Second gen 2007s
@@dustinbrown7246 But they both had the 4.7.
The second gen offered the 4.7 for the first two years the first gen got the optional 5.7 in its final year
When I was young my dad sold his '89 F 150 straight 6 manual with a little over 300k miles. He only replaced the clutch once.
Those starting then up until 1996 were the best motors ever
Those things were bulletproof if the oil was changed regularly.
Best motor ford every built
I havd a 2009 chevy 3500 hd duramax dully with 681k still runs like new
d j, yeah I have a 95 7.3 Powerstroke 366K miles and after all new sensors and a new starter it runs like new.
Damn dude thats alot of miles I thought my 2000 Silverado 1500 z71 had a lot of miles at 375000 miles. Its all original with one tranny rebuild I tow 8,500k trailer pretty often.
I have a 1999 chevy silverado 1500 and it has 650,000 miles. It runs like crap and its rusted to hell. But it still runs good and the body isnt to bad
Hi Casket Black, thanks for the comments and kudos. Sounds like we think alike lol. Stay tuned, more to come.
People rebuild trucks because of the 80k price tag. Not really built better, just worth fixing because of the absurd cost of new.
its very expensive to fix junk
Dave so we go buy new junk....
When my 09 f150 craps out. I'll fix it. Works perfect but I'm already calling it my project truck.
I had that 72 Caprice..also had a 71 Nova..couldnt kill those engines. They dont make them like that any longer..
I had a '67 Caprice I bought my new after getting out of the army. It had a 327ci. I had lifter/rocker arm problems regularily. That was the nicest looking car I have owned, color Royal Plum 2dr hardtop, black vinyl top, purple interior, unfortunately the paint faded more quickly than it should have
My buddy's dads 06 chevy duramax with 1.3 million he delivered trailers all over the U.S and Canada
My 2000 Chevy Suburban is currently at 408,000 miles on original engine and transmission. Friends Chevy Silverado just hit 500,000 original engine and transmission. Great vehicles.

A tie rod every 60k miles sound annoying 😂
Waterpumps go out every 75 k for me onba 5.3 Silverado Found out the gm original equipment last longest about 100k but the cost is higher.
@hankm16 that's the unfortunate fact of running bigger tires. They weigh a lot. Things break sooner.
I had a 1985 Dodge with a 318 engine with over a million miles before i retired it.
The first gen dodges ran ran forever standard Tranys were thebest, I know several between 650,000 and 800’000 that were traded off just because the guys driving them wanted new ones and they were all sorry they traded, because their old was better
Are you Al Bundy
I have a 2012 Ram Cummins with 723,000 miles, what do you say about that? Never been rebuilt.
Just picked up a 2012 Silverado 5.3L Crew Cab one owner with 63,000 miles on it. Super clean, hoping to get a lot of miles out of it.
I’ve read that the engines with cylinder de-activation were prone to excess oil consumption and complete failure.I never liked the idea of banks of cylinders shutting down,no matter how seamless it might be.
Same. You can bypass it now thanks goodness lol
Hahaha. . . Once i saw a 2003 Dodge Cummins in an auction that had 834,000 miles.
No it wasn’t, it was so beat up though, it was like a farm truck. The read end was like hit by a tractor and the axle was sideways with the bed all crunched up on the drivers side. But the engine still ran.

You really have no idea what your talking about.
I personally drove an E350 7.3 ford diesel that lasted me 470, 000 miles without any major repairs.
It also depends on where the vehicle is, how it’s used, how it’s maintained and who is the driver. Many factors involved.

I have a 2003 Silverado with a 4.8 V8 engine. I bought it from the dealership brand new, now 18 years later I have 210,000 miles on it and it still runs like a clock! You need to factor in the number of vehicles produced, with the number that reached 400k plus miles. This will give you the odds of a particular vehicle lasting that long.
Most vehicles can get over 300,000 miles if people would just take care of them
I hope so buddy my 2002 silverado ext. Cab z71 I owned so far has 158668 miles own her 17 yrs so far I'm 51 now and drive like a grandpa.
Chevy's burning oil is caused by the variable engine timing. Reset the engine computer or buy the plug in economy bypass to stay v8 all the time. The oil consumption problems will go away.

Also, will long distance driving hurt my truck at this juncture with high mileage???
