@@eastside313yahdig.2 Actually, what he said has already been done before. Of course, stuff like transmissions, master cylinders, water pumps, fuel pumps, alternators, exhausts, radiators, electrical components (window motors, door lock actuators, antenna motors etc.) suspension components, and the usual maintenance related issues must all be timely tended to in order to make it a feasible reality. Most give up or simply get tired of the car long before that.

I had a 2001 Camry, had it towed away at 438,883. I could have driven it away myself but it didn't have a sticker on it...
I had rocker panel rust and I wasnt going to fix it. It ran pretty damn good. Radio/Cd worked well, power seats and windows still worked. Had an oil leak but again wasn't going to fix it....car was great. Oh, and when I bought it, it had 345,000 on it. I paid like $500 for it. Owner thought it had too many miles on it. I thought the same thing for my 1998 Toyota Corolla but decided to buy a new car, it's ordered right now, I'll probably take delivery in early October. I had 2 major back surgeries this year and my days of a standard transmission are over. I ordered my car because it could be my last and for once I wanted exactly what I wanted. No compromises. I got a Ford Escape Titanium with almost everything, I didn't get the locking lug nuts because I can get hello kitty ones on Amazon.😂 I went from roll up windows to a car I can talk to.

2010 Honda Accord Automatic 4 Cylinder here, with 210,000 miles. Oil changes every 10,000 miles. Mobil 1 synthetic oil with Mobil 1 filter. I use the cheapest gas and still get 25 mpg. Rotate tires regularly, change break pads every 50-60k, transmission fluid changed at same intervals as break pads. Everything under the hood is original from the factory aside from the starter and spark plugs. Nothing else has been touched. Car still runs wonderfully, never had any issues. Needs suspension work which is to be expected after that many miles. Can't recommend the Honda Accord enough. Fantastic, reliable cars all day every day.

One of them reached 450000 miles and the engine started to misfire. It turns out some of the valve springs cracked. After installing new valve springs that car is still on the road!

For 177 bucks I replaced the leaking rear shocks with a coil spring kit from the auto parts store. It pays to have a spare coil pack and a code reader with you. Comfortable and dependable.

I know people bash the Prius for being an ugly lunch box but like any Toyota they will last practically forever. Just keep an eye on the battery. My dad still uses a 3rd gen one himself, that grumpy old Englishman loves that thing for the gas mileage since he's such a cheapskate and it hasn't given him too many problems. He's also one of the few Prius drivers I know of that doesn't drive below the speed limit like a lot of em do XD

I have a 98 towncar with 112,000 orig miles and I wouldn't trade it for any new car, and not all big cars are gas hogs. I get 15 to 17 around town and on the highway I get 24 to 25 mpg. Some of you towncar owners please back me up on this. Who needs a tiny uncomfortable compact car when you can have this kind of comfort and still get decent mileage. And I too have seen these Lincolns with 300 to 350,000 miles on them and still running trouble free. I will admit that at 110,000 mls. I did have to replace the intake manifold due to a crack and coolant loss, cost me $ 700.00 to replace with the improved one Ford designed to replace it. Other than that I swear it's been a great car and I wouldn't trade it for anything else out there. If you have one, keep it, if you don't have one get one, you can't go wrong with a stinken lincoln. 😎

Hear us now and believe us later ! I own a 2001 Lincoln Town Car with roughly 195,000 original miles. I had bought for $500 cash in east Texas after my 1998 Saturn LS 2 had been hit head on at 90 mph by a pickup that had been driven over the highway center line and crashed into my stationary car sitting in a left turn lane. Upon impact that truck flipped over and over across the highway, flipping over a guardrail and crushing it. A newer Ford FX4 crewcab rear ended my car at 50 to 60 mph. My car was totaled and the unibody was crushed badly. The engine was almost driven through the dashboard, the hood was touching the heavily cracked windshield and the trunk was almost touching the shattered back window.
I was almost dead when EMS got to me, close to slipping into a coma. I ended up at Jenny Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas where teo level 1 trauma teams operated on me for fifteen hours to keep me alive because I had tried to go into a coma three more times.
My Lincoln has been broken into two times but the punks are likely still locked up in county jail unless they got transferred to state prison.
The power window switches on the driver side don't work now because of the break ins but the passenger side windows do work. The factory starter just went out a couple of months ago and I replaced it with a refurbished model. The electronic light module that controls gauges on the instrument panel is about to shut down. The original heater core went out earlier this year so no heater or defroster and it caused the coolant to get flushed out while I was driving. A mechanic had done a heater core bypass to prevent that flushing. The Alpine CD changer in the trunk isn't working. It has a AM/FM/cassette player stereo but no CD/mp3/Bluetooth capability until I buy a modern high power head unit, amplifiers and speakers. My car will need new tires soon and I just had a high mileage oil change done. I'll need to put it in a shop for coolant system service for sure and just a check up on brakes because they were replaced recently. The air conditioner works so well it gets colder than the central air system in my apartment and I have to turn it down. I live in Texas so the air conditioning is preferred to the heater but defroster would be nice when it rains. My car will need new bulbs for the turn signals.
It's hard to park it at some shopping centers or businesses with tight parking areas. It has lots of space inside to move around where you can drive and ride in comfort.
I've had people wanting to buy my car but assured them the price would be $5000 and not $500.

I have a 2001 Toyota Camry CE, 2.2L 4-cylinder. Bought it 9 years ago for $2800 with 110,000 miles on the odometer. It just went over 250,000 miles last week. I use Walmart's Super-Tech 20,000 mile synthetic oil but change it every 10,000 miles. Also use synthetic Mobil 1 transmission fluid and when doing the fluid exchange, I drain the fluid at the transmission cooler output line in order to get the old fluid out of the torque converter... Had to replace the radiator, the timing belt/water pump, the battery, and some hoses. Motor still runs velvety smooth (just like new, really) and shifts almost imperceptibly... I just keeps GOING❗ I drive the car VERY gently as to not put too much stress on the components. Cosmetically, the car could maybe use a fresh paint job, but the seats are absolutely rip free and no cracks on the dash (and I live in Texas).
These 90s and early 2000s Camrys are super over-engineered. Most mechanics will attest to this... I just GASP at the thought that the average new vehicle transaction price in the US is now $48,000😯... WOW...❗I've been to the junkyard many times and ALL vehicles are heading there... Let's not kid ourselves... Some trips to the junkyard are VERY expensive, apparently...

A very good strategy Tom, the money saved with no depreciation, no expensive full coverage insurance and no intrest on loans could be more than enough to fund a IRA and amount to very large sums of money over 30-50 years.
Also if you get stuck with a Hoopdie how cares your only out a small amount and get some back at the junk yard.
I buy mine for around 3 to 5 thousand take good care of them and sell them 5 to 6 years later for about half what I paid then upgrade to a newer one.

It used oil too...not bad but I had to check it once in every 2 to 3 weeks. In SC you are required to pay a fee to drive it too on top of expensive repairs and even insurance is higher on the Prius! Makes no sense! So yes you save on gas but you lose it when the problems come along.

You could have added the 2000 kia Sephia....mine has 288,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. No smoke from the engine. No noises or vibrations. No oil consumption issues. However it does have some oil leaks and it have worn out motor mounts. It's never had any suspension work required. I had an alignment put on it about 6 years ago and it hasn't needed anything else done to it since. The one issue with this particular engine is that it's an interference engine and you have got to replace the timing belt when it gets worn to avoid engine damage from a broken timing belt. My car was 8 years old when I bought it for $2800.00. it already had 194,000.miles on it. But I still drive it daily. The interior is still in excellent condition with the exception of worn out brake and clutch pedal covers. It's still on the original clutch. A/c power windows, power locks rear window defogger, etc... Everything still works great on my car. It will easily pass 300,000 miles...

Josh, the reliability of the "cheap" Ranger is legend. Kinda explains why Ford quit building it. Ford also dropped the 4.9 litre or 300 inline six for the same reason. Half a million miles was no big thing for those engines. BUT, the fuel consumption wasn't anything to write home about and they say it would have been too costly to get it capable of meeting new emissions standards. All I know is I drove service vehicles with that engine and the body was a HEAP with the engine still running strong. (service vehicles get beat up) We typically replaced em about 300,000. Honda also has that "Honda Cancer" rust issue, especially over the wheels. Even people selling them mention it when they post on used car sites like craigslist. While no car will always escape rust, I'll stick to Toyota.

  • @Bunkysworkshop
    @Bunkysworkshop 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

HMM. Only one American vehicle. I always have had Honda and Toyota because every time I go for Ford, Dodge I always have problems and I thought it was just my bad luck. My civic 97 had 413,000 on it when I gave it up for auction for the animal shelter. My Ridgeline 07 has 152,000 and My Toyota RAV4 2013 has 100,000 and last but least Honda Civic 2010 208,000 and a dear just totaled it VERY SAD for the car and dear. OH dear. LOL. I'm looking at the Toyota Tundra now. Thoughts?? Great video mate.

A 2007 Toyota Tundra reached a million miles a couple years ago! The owner used it for fast shot deliveries for the oil companies, and he put like 125,000 miles on it a year, and he was driving cross country in it 24/7!

1992 Volvo 740 with over 415K miles. Engine has never been opened and transmission has never been rebuilt. The car has been in my family since new. It has never been on a tow truck nor to my recollection ever left anyone stranded. Paint still looks great and interior is still nice too. Cars like mine will never be produced again. Simple to work on and parts cheap and plentiful. I have turned at least 7 people into fans and owners of these model Volvo’s. A very nice used model can be purchased for under $3000.

The Town Car is just a fancy Crown Vic, so it's already on the list. That being said the rear drive platform has MUCH to do with that reliability. The big rear drive GMs, Caprice and the like, built thru '96 were much the same. Old school IRON. Cars built year after year, with the same engines and platforms get the bugs worked out. What DOESN'T get high marks in my book is any NEW engine or transmission, at least until they've been around a few years and hundreds of thousands of miles. IF you keep clean oil and filter in your car and NEVER let it overheat pretty much any will go a LOT of miles. **caveat** Yugo's and the like**

With the 2007 Camry, I believe it is the 4- cylinder 2AZ-FE engine that has the excessive oil consumption and not the V6 models.
