  • This video means a lot to me and I'm so nostalgic now. I'm so thankful for all of the opportunities every person and every horse in my life has presented to me and I hope you all enjoy this video. It's very special to me. (Also I started galloping racehorses in 2016, not 2015, that is a typo!)

I know this might not seem like much, but I really love the fact that you know exactly how your old horses are doing and where they're at. People nowadays don't usually care about finding an actually great home, and even if they do, they are not interested in learning how their horses new lives are going. I just wanted to point that out, you're truly an inspiration

I'm 14 and have been riding for over eight years, but I have never leased or owned a horse of my own. I'm starting to worry that it is too late for me to lease my own horse, and that my parents can't afford it. This story gave me hope and inspiration that it is never too late to do what you dream of.

Never give up on having your own horse! Two years ago, my mom knew there was no way to buy a horse in our current financial state. So she prayed that God would help her break the news to me. Two hours later she got a call. But she did not answer. When my dad and i got back from running errands my dad called them back... They called to say the two horses they just bought they wanted to give them to us. They were not the horses for us as we soon found out after taking them to a trainers to have them looked at. My mom said she would ride so i would have someone to ride with. We sold both horses(the people that gave them to us said if they were not for us we could sell them and get horses that suited). We soon found to geldings, one was 10 the other was 11. They were halter trained but then stuck in a field their whole lives. They were half brothers. One was docile the other one was the complete opposite! I picked the hot-headed one!
We trained my horse as a trail horse but i always knew i wanted to jump. But my mom always told me i would ONLY trail ride, this was not good enough for me.
Long story short it has been two year since we got them... And i now show my horse as a jumper! And am currently starting the other horse under saddle. So, please do NOT give up. Anything is possible with God!

This video really touches the heart. I'm so happy you're doing what you love. Sometimes I wish I had started riding when I was a lot younger, so I'd be able to ride more. I started taking lessons when I was 15/16, and I'm 18 now. I'm going to have to get a career soon and dedicate my life to that. I wish I have had more time to do what I really love.

My friend started riding at 25 and long story short, she's now a legend. Age doesn't matter with riding, you can be given the same opportunities as everyone else if you work hard to make your hopes a reality. Good luck in weaving more horses into your life. and just remember that even when the odds are stacked against you, you can push past them and achieve your goals if you build up power behind the run. Don't give up, and always have a positive attitude. If you want it, then do whatever it takes. We believe in you! :)

Maddie kay Wheeling That is a stall at a horse show. They are typically temporary, or portable stalls, that are used at many show venues. Do you mean it's disgusting because it has chew marks and wear and tear from usage?

what a nice gift to give to these nice OTTBs, a second chance at a career and love. I also loved seeing your equitation improve throughout the years 😊. I started on Shetland pony at 5, then had a few arabs and did endurance riding, went to college, stopped riding, but then started at a hunter jumper barn as an adult and was completely hooked...found a lovely Hanoverian TB cross, we've had some much fun. but.....my love of the arabs...they are special!

you have shown me here, that no matter my age, i was so lucky to get to work at a large stable, where i had taken lessons a little younger, but had to stop due to divorce of my parents as well, but the opportunity to ride so many different horses, to care for a lot of horses coming off the track into a lesson barn, and i got to help with the ground work, and mostly had a knack for calming newly gelded stallions, and doing the one on one work with them, as well as leasing a lot of different horses, and using a lot of different horses in lessons, it taught me so much about horse persona, and mentality, about how showing was not everything, and how wonderful it was to find a good match in a horse. i might not have had the money others did to own a bunch of horses, but i had my opportunity to own two, and it was great to bring them along, one rescued from the meat truck, all he needed was his teeth floated, and he came back from deaths door, and became such a beautiful arabian, got along great with my best friends horse etc. i was luckier to have been able to ride all those horses, than to have owned just one good horse..you were like me, determined to ride that horse deemed 'difficult' or they were too much for others, you just see it in their face, in their demeanor, they want to do it, they just need the right person...awesome work darling, i hope you carry on and help teach others to ride, that is something i think you would be great at..best of luck..xo

Shelby, I love your story! You are such an inspiring young lady, you will go far in life! My first horse was also an Arabian gelding, his name was Senoj Antar (barn name 'Sham'). All I ever wanted to do was work with horses. I went to Humber College in Toronto for three years and trained to be an instructor/coach and also a barn manager. I did end up training professionally for a year, but then life took me away from horses while I had my kids and stayed at home to be their mom. Then about four years ago, I fell back into the horse world and now I'm riding and teaching again :-) (I'm 50 now!!) I still don't have my own horse because I am university fee/hockey/football broke (ha ha!) but one day, for sure!! I hope you will venture out to Rocky Mountain Show Jumping this season and if you do, the barn I am at is just 15 minutes down the highway, so maybe you could come for a visit and a ride? If you ever need a place to stay in Calgary, just look me up ;-) I hope I get to see you and Milo compete one day!

I just did my first show yesterday! The first horses I rode were Arabs too! I still ride Arabians today! I rode them for about 7 years and then started riding other breeds because I do Hunter/Jumper now! I still ride the same Arabians though, and with the same lady too! I've only ridden four Arabians with her, Gem was who I started out on, he was a fleabitten who passed about a month after I started riding due to old age. Then I started riding Little Ricky, who is a short little bay who I still ride on occasion. Then I outgrew Ricky and started riding one of my first Heart-Horses, Trouble. She was the most amazing horse I've ever ridden, and the horse who thought me a lot. She was the first horse who spooked with me on her, and who I rode the longest. She was an amazing red chestnut with a fiery orange mane to match her attitude! I was actually the last person to ride her before she had to be put down 2 days later due to a severe case of colic. I think she knew what was going to happen because she was so patient that trail ride and decided to run to her hearts desire. It was amazing and I haven't had as good a ride since her! Now the Arab I ride is a grey gelding named Possum who is the cutest little thing! I get a hug and a kiss every time I walk by him and he always try's to follow me when I go to grab my tack and ends up untying his lead from the trailer just to get to me! Now the horse I ride most frequently is a large palomino pony named Shazam. He's amazing and I love him with all my heart! He does have a big addiction to peppermint though! He did a little rear yesterday because he wanted one so bad! I rode him in my first show yesterday and placed 2nd in Jumper, and 4th in equitation because he walked so fast I passed the line of riders every lap XD! I have no idea why I just rambled all of that! I only meant to say I ride arabs too! Well, too late now! Hehe!

I have been riding since I was four... although I stopped for multiple years because we couldn’t afford it and picked it up again last year after going to a summer horse camp. I own my own four y/o Paint x Arab mare and I started her myself. She has an old injury in a hind leg that effects her soundness, but vets say jumping is fine and I’m starting her on jumps after Christmas. I’m happy to say I may be co-owning an OTTB gelding next year with my mother and eventually buying her out and leasing out my current mare with approval from her previous owner as our main binding agreement is no selling her. It’s safe to say I’m still learning from my little mare, she’s not my once in a lifetime horse but I know she loves me and I her. She’s my baby but I’ll always be searching for that one horse who connects with me on a different level. In two years I’m applying for a job at my equine vet (at 16) and will hopefully be accepted as they said I should apply.

SHelllLLBYYBYYYYYYY this is so great! i want to be like this one day (where you are now with Milo and Archie). Mainly looking at Milo's story, though, inspires me a lot. I looked at the SPCA and I found a perfect little paint mare that, from the look at at video, was particularly bombproof and tame. She was already broke and seemed perfectly safe. (Sadly) She was sold to another home the other day, but I've been watching videos about people and their stories with their perfect horses and I see how much buying a skittish horse can do to you. I've made the decision that instead of going the safe route and buying a perfect, safe little horse, I am going to rescue a skittish horse in need of a friend;)

I sometimes hope that some will just magically bring me a horse I can love. you have really inspired me. My horse is a 24 yo arabian gelding and he's starting to show his age. I love him with all my heart so I could never stand to sell him but I really love jumping and before I got my horse I was showing 2 feet when I was 9 and now I can't show because of how low I am jumping. I was planning on rescuing an ex race horse but lots of people tell me that they are too high strung (sadly an ex racehorse is all my family can afford) so I was feeling really lost. Your leg and seat is perfect! I so enjoy watching your videos and your work with these wonderful horses!! Especially cute were the clips when you were the tiny girl on those nice horses! You have been such a great rider from the beginning! 🏇🐎🐴2019🌞

i find it really hard to see horses with their necks arched over in dressage, like Farley. But i think you really grew as a rider doing bridleless and stuff, such a beautiful story, you are really talented

Bruni Glendinning With Arabs, a lot of it is just difference of anatomy and how their necks are. The Arab circuit does like them more Bunchy but in that particular video, he isn't hyperflexed at all. Their thicker/short necks just make them look more bunched up than they actually are

Atm I’m riding an Arab x she is very very hot excited I wouldn’t say green but she’s an amazing jumper with great potential but I there’s only one problem.. I’m the only one who likes her and the only one who can ride her. She throws everyone off except me. We work well together and recently I had a fall bareback from her. I laughed my guts out when it happened but I realise falling from ur fav makes ur bond stronger as we jumped amazingly that day after the fall. She’s a great little horse and is perfect for anyone who isn’t afraid of what might happen and is willing to give a go at anything. I was going to buy her when times go bad at my riding school as lots of ppl that rode her were complaining and got there confidence ruined on her. Everyone time she bolted, had a bucking fit, reared or pigrooted I would ride her and she would be completely fine. No matter how much I trained her she would still be a bitch to everyone else. They decided to keep her as they knew I couldn’t afford her so now I exercise her and she is still used for trot and walk trails.

This is so fascinating I wish I could be like you someday, train horses, maybe even just own a horse if I am lucky. I am 12 and have been taking lessons for about 2 Year’s now and have been to I believe 3 schooling shows I wish to do more with my riding skills but my family can’t pay for extra lessons and more shows. Do you have any advice for me? I know this was posted a year ago but I just wanted to say that.
