My grandparents migrated from the Philippine Islands in the late 1800's. I am a 3rd generation American of Filipino descent and have never been to the Islands. I do not speak Tagalog or any of the dialects. Yes we look the same, but have American mentality. I myself am already 86 yrs. old retired in Nevada but resided in California most of my life. Frankly, looking at the living conditions in and around Greater Manila is both frightening and unimaginable to me. I know this will anger a lot of Filipinos, but I am only speaking the truth. My family has a heavy U.S, Military background and have travelled the World, Myself in Korea, Japan and parts of China. The assistance given to the Philippines by the world, especially U.S. has done little to improve their existence. Corruption and lack of motivation has established the P.I as a third world country. Their are millions of Filipinos living throughout the world. Most of the ones I met do not want to return to their country except to visit. Philippines has an Economy which is never spoken or written about. It is called Economic Support by those lucky enough to escape.
