Thanks for the tutorial! I wanted the classic star in the third example, but I didn't want to rely on eyeing a perfect line straight across. Turns out if you click Shift and drag with the star tool, and while dragging, click the Option or Alt key on your Mac and it will swap to the classic star shape, versus the bloated one. Hope that helps!
One problem: I made these stars, and then the custom star changed and I do not know how to change it back. Now I do not get the "normal" star" in the first hand. I do not understand what went wrong.
+Mikolaj Nowak if you're trying to modify a star you've already created, start by selecting it, then going up to Effect > Distort and Transform. There are lots of ways to tweak your shape using Illustrator's effects. TH-cam won't let me reply directly to your post for some reason, so I hope you see this. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
+One Minute Digital Thank You for reply, but I meant changing the very features You explained in this video. I mean number and "depth" of sides, just like when You were creating them. I don't need to delete them and draw again, do I??
+Mikolaj Nowak What is it you are wanting to do? For example, if you've drawn a 50 pointed star, and you want to change it to a 30 pointed star, yes, you would need to draw it over again. Just click anywhere on the artboard and change the number of points in the pop up box.
+One Minute Digital Yes, that's exactly what I meant, and "delete & redraw" seems extremely counter-intuitive and archaic. It's my first day with Illustrator and meanwhile I've experimented with other tools like circle/ellipse, spiral or rectangular grid etc. and I've found they all are very limited. Back to Corel...
You can't modify current star shape but before draw star shape simply follow this way. Select Star Tool> Double Click on work area > Select Points and Radius
Hi! I want to make a flower shape from a star. I'm trying to pull out the border of the star with the Width Tool to get the flower. But the last peak always appears differently and it just doesn't let the flower shape to get symmetrical. I think it must be a setting at the shape object, something like the ends don't meet? I don't know :D Do you have any idea?
Ella Marie That's great! There are so many resources on TH-cam for graphic designers. I'm sure you will be very prepared when you start school. Thank you for the subscription and best of luck! xo!
Thank you! That was helpful. One question I still have is how do I control the outer points to make them rounded and assign some sort of radius? I can do this in Photoshop, however when I bring the paths into AI, they are not exact, so I need to draw in AI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
And if anyone has trouble changing their star back to normal, just click anywhere on the artboard with the star shape selected and change the number of points back to 5.
18bovende I mean when you are finished working and want to change it back to the default shape, just click anywhere, change the points back to 5 and then the default will be restored.
Yuki Yamamoto Hi Yuki - Make sure the star shape (not rectangle) is selected, and it's shift + command (not cntrl). That's the little ⌘ symbol. If you're on a pc, it's the Windows symbol. Hope that helps!
+Gun R.J Click and hold down the mouse on the rectangle tool in your tool bar - then you will see all the other shapes available, including the star. Does that help?
Thank at lot. Command key for Window base is Control key(ctrl).
Coral Wonderland Thanks!

I don't need to delete them and draw again, do I??
