    The optical drive laser can get weaker over time and stops “finding” the disc. Some drives have a potentiometer that can adjust the laser strength to account for it.

    Great channel, glad I found it. I’ve got several of these needing a new Hdd. It’s such a mission getting in to it! 😂 good score on the airport card too, most of my machines have had it removed and sold separately 😔
    Looking forward to more content!👍

      It is a mission, but totally worth it in the end.

    Great video! Do you know the max amount of ram you can pack in this thing?

      @@ww21943 I am using iFix It Manta ( www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/Manta-Driver-Kit--112-Bit-Driver-Kit/IF145-392 ), but the Moray or Mako kit should be more than enough for most projects.

    I want to replace the HDD in my old iBook Dual USB 700mhz. Can you clarify exactly what parts I need?

    • @RetroTechorDie
      @RetroTechorDie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just updated my description with Amazon links (should have done that before). The only other thing you need is either an install CD or other receiver device (external drive).

      @@kirishima638 FYI dont be suprised if you have any partition size issues (see my iMacc upgrade video). These older Apples can be unstabe if the partition is too big.

    I have one of these, and the speakers don’t work. When I plug in external speakers it plays the audio but it’s staticy. It also won’t play dvds. It then randomly started working, then stopped when I turned it off. Anybody know why? It has “sentimental” value and I only paid 10 dollars for it so I might be willing to fix it.

    I have an old Ibook I found in my trunk and I think something leaked inside of the screen.. can I pop off the back cover, and if so how?

    "quick" and "replacing the drive on the white iBook" are mutually incompatible ideas.

      @@RetroTechorDie I'm considering doing the mod on my 900MHz, because it's my favorite laptop I've ever owned and I want to squeeze out all the battery life I can get, but all 37 steps one way that iFixit lists aren't exactly getting me up off my seat to do it.
