- The standing chair I use is the F5 Corpus Vertical Stander (VS) Permobil front wheel drive power wheelchair.
There are some great advances in the power chair industry nowadays. I’ve only had three power chairs in my post injury life, but I’ve been pretty fortunate (thanks insurance) to have some great ones. Typically, people see a wheelchair as a burden or think less of a wheelchair confined person. Well guess what - you’re wrong, a wheelchair gives us freedom!!! Now, with better engineering, we’ve been lucky to experience a better life. With this chair, I can stand, elevate, and recline specific areas of my chair. This gives me freedom at home, at the store, at work, or anywhere! The elevation mode helps me reach the top cabinets or shelves at home, I can recline if I need to nap, I can recline if I feel lightheaded, but the best part of this chair is standing!

I’m having some health issues with my joints, but we had a family trip planned for New York City. This th-cam.com/users/postUgkxuxJwamLFanm476LC5WPeTouyyU1GXomC was perfect! It’s lightweight enough that my friend could carry it up or down stairs when we needed to. (I can walk very short distances) It was comfortable for me to sit in, I would say if you’re super tall it might be a little cramped. I’m 5’1” and the foot rests were the perfect height. This may not be the best one for long term use, you get what you pay for, but for something that fits our budget that gives me accessibility while we deal with my health this was amazing.
What a great design. The presentation was dope also. Hopefully these types of chairs will be more price friendly in the future. Thanks for sharing!

I'm a disabled vet and I use a pretty standard mobile chair. I believe it's just awesome there's technology out there to help us live as normal a life as possible. Being mobile and able to get around without needing another person sure makes me feel good. I feel I have my independence back. I can go grocery shopping, to sporting events, and to the mall, or even to a movie. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Abby, for sharing your experience. You looked so happy during the demonstration. Best wishes for your future and keep that pretty smile on your face.
It’s wonderful when you finally get a chair that you love! Looks like you can stand and lie down as well! I’ve just got my new powerchair an Invacare TDX2 I can’t stand but it’s super comfy and reclines.

Is nice to see a person who is disable showing the chair. Too often they just have a sale representative showing the chairs, or a really big strong disable person who spend a lots of time in the gym. it very difficult for a disable person who rarely leaves their home and for those who can't afford the accessible home and other support they need to used a power chair.

This is so wonderful! I’m so glad technology has come such a long way! Now to make it possible to get this in the hands of everyone who needs it! ❤️ I’m still very mobile with my PsA but the pain is keeping me from doing as much or going as far so on my search to motorized aids I came across this one 👍 What a game changer this tech is for sure. I have researched many this since i have limited mobility now from RV’s to complex wheelchairs and the people or person demonstrating the items have no idea about being in a wheelchair they sound so cold. They never use a real person like you

This is absolutely wonderful. I’m in a Hoveround which is a great chair but being a Grandmother I miss my kitchen work. Your chair is absolutely fantastic. I’m so happy for you. I’m going to look into this for sure. Love your dog too. I used to have a miniature poodle which passed. Now I have a 17 lb tom cat and also a Manx with 6 toes who loves to ride. I’m so glad there are machines like this for us. Have A great Holiday season.

Yeah I got a smaller electric wheel chair as I thought it would manevor better in the house it's a salsa m4 crash tested electric wheel chair 'it's brilliant it turns on its own axis 'very easy to operate 'plus it's a fast we bugger 'and very comfortable witch means a lot when you're in it most of your life 'I'm well pleased 'and the nice thing is it doesn't cost the earth about 6 grand will buy a good spec one not 18500 like the one in the video

I've had a Permobil F5 now for 4 years it's been good BUT!!! The problem if you have a problem like a circuit board goes bad. Permobil DOES NOT HAVE A GOOD SUPPORT SYSTEM!!!!!!!!! I waited 5 moonths to get my chair fixed at one point luckly I had a scooter. I contacted VA and the gave me a second wheelchair. Now I am using the second chair (Quantum) While my Permobil is sitting in the corner getting dusty since November so 5 months already. VA contated me said lets get you a new chair. I'm looking at other brands

It's 2023 now, and I'll be getting a new chair in about a year and a half, I'm in a Quickie Q700M now, with all the options, elevate, recline, tilt, leg lift, and it has been what I need, they just poorly engineered it, I had considered a Permobil, but went with the Quickie, because my previous chair was a Quickie and was great, that was a mistake. I'm going Permobil on next chair. I would like this vertical one, I mean insurance paid the $32,000 for the one I'm in, I don't know the current price of the F5 Corpus, but it would be fantastic for me.

love the idea of astanding wheelchair, but don't like the price difference. Nearly10x more expensive for a standing one over a basic lifting one. That doesn't really reflect the small amount of extra mechanical parts required. It just seems to be ripping off disabled people who want more freedom and independence.
Neat chair, I really like the Tristar wheels and the chair being mostly black with a lil white. They seem to always work in just a bit of some goofy color on my chairs. By the way you are rather easy on the eyes, I'm sure your aware of this but I still wanted to tell you. Definite HOTTIE

That is an awesome chair. Another benefit is that it will help prevent getting what can be considered bedsores on your bottom. My uncle used a wheelchair for over 50 years after a car accident. The last 5 years were rough on him because after so long sitting in the wheelchair his tailbone actually was coming through his skin and causing him to have infections. A chair like this could have helped him a lot. Thanks for sharing this video with everyone!!!!

This must be great for circulation concerns arising from sitting all day without leg muscle flexion.
We should be subsidizing programs allowing for all quadriplegics to be able to afford these chairs.
That's really cool :) I bet you're in standing position only to reach things, right? I'm sure going around with a balance point that high is pretty dangerous. It looks like there's no seatbelt around your chest, why is that?
I use it for weight bearing, which is good for my bones and muscles. I have a bar blocking my chest which is similar to a belt. I trust the bar more
@@abby_marsh29 Thank you for answering my questions :) It makes sense that you use it for weight bearing mostly. Why do you trust the bar more? I mean, I know it's for blocking your chest to prevent you from tipping forward, but it looks pretty impractical.
The belt is restrictive, the bar is not. For example, it's had to reach for things with the belt. The bar is also easier to take on or off for me.

Good on you young lady I've been in chairs for coming up to 50 yrs ( incomplete quad c-5-6-7) mainly Manual but have 2 electric chairs ,permobilev6 and the wonderful Magic Mobility X8 ! If i was in your profession I would grab an X8 as they Go Anywhere you point them great for snow ,sand mud and rocks , good luck in life 🤟
Hey Abby, I have the same chair and had for almost 5 years. I've never been able to stand very long because the knee block hurts my shins so bad that I can't stand it. Also what is the white block between your feet? May God richly bless you!
have you tried additional padding in your knee blocks?
The foot divider was designed by a group, May We Help. Its essentially a plastic block. It was made to prevent my feet crossing when I have spasms.

I am really interested in the standing and lying flat functions and your video has given me a much better idea of how these work and especially the positions the body goes through to get there. My insurance don't want to approve standing function and seat elevator because they consider primarily non-medical in nature. And these function are too much expensive. Have you had this problem and do you know how can I solve it? Thank you
I am assuming that it is Your dog in the above video?, because it goes without saying that the dog don’t want to be anywhere else in the world. But by your side or on your lap in that chair what a phenomenal tool. I mean the chair it rocks. I am leery about the potential for tipping over in the standing position when traveling forward. If an obstruction is hit when above a certain speed, I wonder if the higher center of gravity could result in a forward fall. Particularly when traveling down a bit of a slope. The forward casters certainly assist here, but my instinct for 'over engineering' takes over where safety is concerned.
I see that the braces just below the knees will do much to keep your feet from splaying outward. But I would feel more comfortable with raised edges on the outsides of the footrest, to really ensure that a lateral bump could not have a foot slip sideways and off the footrest.
Otherwise, an awesome device!

What are you doing to prevent pressure sores at your heels? That is a very sensitive area.
@@sleepingdogs8939 I try shoes out, if I notice redness I will return them in a timely manner. I've been lucky enough and haven't gotten sores on my heels

After 6 months of complete rest to the heels, I have again started proper sitting and standing with a heel cushion (from Otto Bock). Often, it gets redness. I immediately release the pressure and use ointment.

I just got a permobil m3 and can't wait to try the standing function!! I'm just waiting on my OT and physio to adjust a couple of things.
The lift has already been life changing and it's only been just over a week! Getting the approval for funding was very lengthy but I persevered and I'm very lucky to have it. I hope you are still loving it!
Hi Rachelle, I am not familiar with an M3 having a standing function. Right now, I believe only the F5 offers a standing function. Do you have an M3 with VS??
@@loganflatt Correct, Only the F5 Corpus VS has the standing function, the rest of the F and M class Permobils have all the other seat functions, but not standing.

I'd love to have one like that. I use a manual wheelchair. I have a power chair as well, but not one that stands. I use the power chair to be more independent and to go through the yard. I fully understand the whole spasm crap. Mine have slung me out of my chair numerous times.I still do not wear a seatbelt. I move around too much and do not want to deal with unbuckling 75 times a day. Every morning it looks like an exorcism is being performed on me. My legs go crazy. My level is c6 c7. Great video btw.
I'd love a chair like this. But I'm on Medicare and Medicaid, and I'm pretty sure they won't pay for it.

I know this is a old comment,depending on your situation Medicaid /Medicare sometimes will cover then but its a rarity.Its worth a try and some wheelchair companies have grants to cover out of pocket custom add ons.I know my Medicaid wouldn’t cover it but did cover the elevator setting so I could do better transfers

I have a similar wheelchair by the same company but I’ve had it for a few years and it’s the earlier model. I don’t use it daily or for getting around as I’m a Para, but I use it when I working with machine tools in my shop and on occasion when I need to reach something in the house. I’m far too much of a danger to others to drive it in public! Lol
