This metal on metal argument is old and outdated, not to mention presumptuous....fact is resurfacing has a smaller market of viable candidates, requires additional training and certification of the surgeons and is a longer surgical procedure....so it is in the surgeons interest to do a THR, not the patients, especially in younger male patients who are active.

Good to hear, that video got me slightly worried as I'm due a metal hip resurfacing operation in 3 days, I'm only 42 and very active, so hope this is the right move for me

@@jimmyfoot832 - Well if you did your research you'd know for a 42 year old there are NUMEROUS advantages to resurfacing vs THR. I'm currently fighting to get my hip resurfaced at age 53. Still numerous advantages for people who want to be active.
Plus, why get rid of significant amounts of good healthy bone if you don' have to? Surgeons who are not certified to do resurfacing can convince themselves (and patients) that THRs are just as good. They have to if they want the business. But if you do your research it is simply not true. Resurfacing can claim professional athletes returning to their sport and competing at pro level in numerous sports.....THR can't make that claim in any sport. The more research I did and do, the more I KNOW resurfacing is better.
Good luck in your surgery and recovery. Who is your surgeon and what hospital?

Hi. There. Thanks. Yes Andy Murray had the same procedure I'm having so it bodes well. Yes I've only stared with the research. Hope yours comes around, I've had issues for 4 years after been classed as too young and finally got to see Mr grogan at Bradford hospital West Yorkshire UK, who didn't hesitate after the xray. I did gymnastics as a kid players open age football for 15 years and throughout my youth and fell ran.. So sounds like I'm prime candidate for this procedure thanks and good luck

@@jimmyfoot832 - Yes you are super prime candidate. Under 55 is prime, at 42 resurfacing should be the only consideration (IMO). Another thing they don't mention is that at your age the part of either (resurfaced or THR) will likely wear out before your life ends. If its a THR it now becomes a more complicated surgery to revise the previous THR. When you have been resurfaced, you still have all the bone they cut off during THR....so you can very easily go into a THR like it was the first time. Maybe by then they can just remove the cap and redo another resurfacing? Who knows. But either way, big advantage over THR patients who WILL face a more complicated procedure.
Come back and add to the comments after you've been on your resurfaced hip for a while....be good to hear someone's real experience.

@@tomm8025 will do for sure, kind of looking forward to the challenge after the procedure. Yes you are right, this was actually pointed out to me that after just one resurfacing operation, if successful, worst case scenario when that one wears out would be a THR later on in life, I'm hoping by then technology will have advanced a bit more to maybe have near enough a repeat procedure without the need for a THR. Thanks again.

Ceramic on ceramic is certainly going to change the debate on this a bit.

I'm in Brazil and would like to thanks for this video! I don't know much, but I think now a days (since 2021 at lest) the "Resurfacing" is getting backing to the scene and debates of hip surgery with new materials as ceramic over ceramic. Anyway, I have faith in that when my 'time arrives' (maybe 5 years ahead) to do the surgery we'll have the best solutions ;-)

What BS. How in the heck could you not at this point have hip resurfacing that is not metal on metal ?
