Assassin's Creed III (The Movie)

  • I tried to make it shorter, I swear! In fact, my original edit was over 20 minutes longer, so I did end up cutting a lot, but I did as much as I could without negatively affecting the story. Most of my cuts were in the Haytham and Desmond sequences. I made sure to keep the most important scenes, but there was some cool stuff in there I didn't like having to cut, but when a movie is this long, you cut where you can. There was one scene I debated cutting between Haytham and Connor, where they're arguing on a rooftop. Technically that scene could have been cut and the story would flow just fine, but I thought the scene was just too good to cut. It had good acting and is overall very important to the themes of the series, so I left it in.
    I make these movies primarily for those who don't play games, or simply didn't want to buy the game, but may still have been interested in the story. It's also cool to watch for gamers who may have played the game before, but would like to see the story told in a single sitting. This movie is very long, so it may push the "single sitting" into a couple sittings for some, but it's still less than the 20 or so hours playing the game would take. I feel like watching the story as one complete work helps me to understand the story as a complete work better, and in the case of AC3, I appreciate the story much more now that I've seen it in this way.
    A lot of people complain about the haytham and young connor scenes in this game, how it takes forever to become an assassin, so I've tried my hardest to condense those scenes as best I could, but there were some important parts that obviously had to be retained for the overall story.
    Subscribe to my channel to be notified when I release any future game movies. The next movie I have planned is the new Tomb Raider. However, because making these movies has been impacting my ability to be productive at school and work somewhat (I was awake almost 24 hours after staying up all night sunday to finish this movie) I will be waiting until school is over (May 11th) to begin work on my next movie.

    As a kid he saw with his own eyes how his entire village and mother burned alive.
    Had to fight his best friend and was forced to kill him all because of lies.
    He knew that one day he would have to kill his own father...and he did.
    And in the end, even Achilles died and he get to know that Achilles named Connor after his dead son.
    Man Connor had a hard life

      @@Jew_Gi_Oh Connor didn't know that. All he had to go on was the fact that Charles Lee was there and knocked him out as a kid, then woke up and his village was on fire and mother was dead. That's a pretty easy conclusion to come to when you find out Charles Lee is a templar. And then he was smart enough to realize had dad knew about what Washington did but withheld so he could say it at when Connor was the most vulnerable to try and manipulate him. If haytham told him that at the beginning Connor would have took it different. He was ziios son and they wanted honesty and transparency over anything.

      I definitely agree, just one more game! I know a lot of fans don't really like him (but most of them never give legit reasons), but I believe he can mature in the next game since AC3's story felt rushed and plain lazy. The writers really need to try again on developing him a lot more. But seriously, I had no problem with his serious personality cause one, he was more focused on saving his people and not worrying about becoming a womanizer (like Ezio) or whatever. He was probably whiney but let's face it, he was still a boy and naive in those years considering that he was the youngest out of the other assassins. They really need to give him one last chance to at least end his story completely.

    After seeing the events in Rogue and seeing this. It really does make sense why Achilles went into seclusion for so many years.
    SPOILERS AHOY
    When Shay tried convincing Achilles of the dangers of seeking out the temples he wouldn't listen. So in retaliation Shay made the difficult choice of leaving the Brotherhood and stopping the Assassins the hard way by killing them off one by one.
    It wasn't until the end that Achilles admitted he was wrong and Shay was right. The entire mess could have been avoided but Achilles was so dead set on his goal that it cost so many unnecessary lives of friends and apprentices he trained.

    • @scottprice4955

      Koen van lokeren I wouldn't necessarily say that he didn't accomplish anything. Prior to the Colonial Purge during the events of Rogue, Achilles established a strong Brotherhood within the Colonies.
      Achilles had his flaws mainly his obsession with hunting the Precursor Sites during Rogue. Look how well that went for him. He not only lost everything he spent decades building but was crippled so he could no longer even be an Assassin in full.
      When you meet him in ACIII he's a man with a broken body and spirit. No longer seeing the point in fighting for a belief that he betrayed through his actions. However before he died there was one thing he was proud of.
      It was that he made sure Connor was ready to do what Achilles failed to in life. As long as Connor upheld the values of the Creed but did not become blind in his goals then Achilles can say his struggles were worth it in the end.

    • @MrKoen33333
      @MrKoen33333 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scott Price I see where you are coming from but did Achilles built the brotherhood? I think it was passed on (not sure tho) on another point AC 3 is the only game where you can feel regret in killing the templars since they make very good points when they die for instance Johnson who wanted to buy land to protect it but Connor refuses to see their valid points

    • @scottprice4955
      @scottprice4955 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Koen van lokeren Achilles did indeed build the Colonial Brotherhood according to his bio on Rogue.
      As for AC III that was the entire point of those Templars. That was why Ubisoft made you play as Haytham since the Templars during the Ezio Trilogy were indeed cruel and evil.
      The Assassin-Templar war is not black vs. White its gray vs. gray. Both sides have good intention but their methods are questionable to straight up unethical

    Connor is THE MOST VERSATILE Assassin. Native, stoic, humble, serious, and a strong morality for his people; not only the creed. He embodies the native american mindset of that time. Cultural native people caught in a conflict between the white man over their land, they fought but ultimately had to succumb and pick a side. It related to my Native Hawaiian culture and history. He was fresh to me. No bullshit and nonsense for this guy. Just his mission and building a home for those he took in. People complain about Connor's character and personality but honestly he was probably one of the only Assassin's to become as skilled and mature in the short time of his part. His story may have been a lackluster in comparison to Ezio's trilogy but that still didn't keep me from enjoying this game and the Kenways' story. Anyway isn't that what's supposed to pull you in to these AC games, the complexity of characters and story? The relation and resemblance to our actual history? Wish more justice was done for Connor as much as he fought for it. Plus this was a game with some native culture where you aren't some caucasian hero blasting natives away with lead on their homelands. The native struck back this time and won in a sense. It was a win for me each redcoat/bluecoat I dropped. One of my favorite games ever. These game developers work hard. Quit bitching haters.

    This was the first one I played. Being a history buff and seeing that epic trailer compelled me to pick up a franchise that I had purposely ignored prior. What a story and I remember the "What the heck?!" moment when Hathan gave the Templar ring to Charles Lee. I had forgotten that John DeLancie was Desmond's dad.
    Been an AC player ever since though I miss the immersive game play in this version as opposed to the more MMO mechanics that came later. The dedication to bolt one of these movies together boggles my mind. Thank you.

    The only thing that made me cringe about the story was the main premise itself. A half British-half Native American fighting on the side of the American revolutionaries against the British? What? The likelihood of that actually happening is slim to none, since it was the British who were allied with the native Americans, while the American colonists wanted to expand further into their lands and drive them out. Anyone who knows history automatically understands what I'm talking about. Why would any native especially, Conner who was an avid defender of his people, want to help the Americans? Highly unlikely.
    Another thing that put me off was the constant reference to patriotism, freedom, liberty and other Americanisms which the game repeatedly shoved down your throat like a fourth of July parade. Don't get me wrong, this would have been ok if you observed both the British side, and the American side as a third party and got to see both sides of the story, but the game forces you on one side and makes you participate in the whole fighting for freedom lets kill the redcoats oops I mean Templar villains. But I guess the game wouldn't sell in the US if it was actually historically accurate and told a balanced and nuanced story. So I can't blame Ubisoft for adhering to the US market.

      Tbh Americans are shown as bigger douchebags than brithishets in the game.all the templars are morally Grey and Connor only starts killing templars when he believes his village was destroyed by Charles Lee but in fact it was doneby George Washington!! Heck u got a dlc where u fight the president of america wielding a magic staff in top of a pyramid ....what more do u want?xd

    • @3dwardcullen69
      @3dwardcullen69 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      batmite 1995 I don't know about that. The whole George Washington DLC thing was a "what if" alternate history which did not actually occur. So I don't count that DLC as part of the main lore in the Assassins Creed franchise. I'm talking about the portrayal of actual history in the game. I felt it was a little one sided, even though they did mention very briefly that the British helped the Natives while the Americans were encroaching on their lands and driving them out. This fundamental fact of history was not emphasized enough and conflicted the main story, as Connor was both British and Native... So the whole plot just lacked credibility

      batmite 1995
      *Spoiler for Tyranny of King Washington*
      The Tyranny of King Washington DLC is technically canon because the alternative reality is like a vision or dream shared by Washington and Connor simultaneously. In other words, the events in the alternative reality obviously did not occur, but if you played the DLC, then it is revealed that rather than a mere out-of-universe fun "what-if" scenario for us to play, it was actually an in-universe vision that the Apple of Eden showed to Washington and Connor. At the end of the DLC, Washington, horrified by the vision passes the Apple to Connor to drop into the sea. The DLC is canonical because the alternative reality was a "dream" they experienced.

      Gabrielle Grimas The plot of this movie really departs from historically known facts. Knights Templars had completely different beliefs, goals, and methods than portrayed in this animated movie. To assassinate anyone is without due process is wild and barbaric. People have the right to face their accusers. Knights Templars were actually fighting the Roman Catholic Church from within in it for all kinds of liberty. This movie is just nuts. I believe that this movie could be a real Illuminati tactic to spread disinformation.

    Ezio: Revenge will satisfy, but the hunt for wisdom is the ultimate fulfillment.
    Connor: Good and evil are not constants. The world is what you make of it, and not every story has a happy ending.
    Edward: Selfish endeavors will benefit no one but your own ego.
    Shay: Every man is the hero of his own story.
    Arno: There is no right or wrong way to think, only how extreme it can go.
    Jacob and Evie: As different as they are, two halves will never be complete without each other.
    Bayek: No failure can be undone, but it is never too late to learn from your errors and create something new.
    Kassandra/Alexios: As tested as it seems, as divided as it can be, family is a bond that does not break easily.

    I think comparing Ezio to Connor is dumb. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Sure, they're both fruit (or assassins, in this case), but they're different.
    Ezio is the playboy who is brought into a world by seeking revenge and learning how to love. Not make love, they've made clear he's pretty good at that already.
    Connor watched his mother killed when he was a child, and believed his father was responsible. Connor spent his entire life seeking something he may never get - freedom, for not only him, but everyone there was. Sure, he wanted the man who killed his mother dead, but that wasn't his main goal like it was Ezio's.
    I like them as much as each other. I just find myself revisiting Connor's story more than Ezio's.

      I think they killed Desmond off way too late. I couldn’t get that much attached to him because his only goal is to stop a solar storm. He didn’t have anyone like family to protect. He wasn’t given a noble purpose to stop the Templars like being driven by revenge. If he was driven for revenge then he could get wiser as he goes along, like Ezio. I used Ezio as an example because he is a perfect example of a character built up right. Connor was driven by purpose but he payed a price. He was selfless and selfless only. He didn’t want for himself, he wanted to help his tribe. Listen to his speech at 3:37:00 a d you will see this. His realisation, his epiphany that his Fathers intentions may not have been all that wrong. He had understanding, Desmond did not have the chance to gain understanding. That is a great example of an underdeveloped character. Remember this is my opinion so feel free to point any mistakes or your own opinions.

    So let me get this straight... Minerva is freedom (Assassins purpose) but if Desmond choose her the world will end over and over again. Juno is order (Templar purpose) and if Desmond choose her, wich he did, the world will be conquer by her and do as she wants. So youre telling me that Desmond was an Assassin and was figthing for the Creed, he ended up choosing the Templar Order way by freeing Juno.
    Now... this is a very very very well written story, besides beeing complicated.

    • @lancedamask9728
      @lancedamask9728 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Because when threatened what an assassin really wants is order not freedom

    • @Adanu191
      @Adanu191 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's rather simplified. The assassins want hope for a better future. The Templars want to stagnate humanity, but call it collective uplifting, believing themselves better equipped to judge humanity and guide it from the shadows.
      The world Minerva offered doomed humanity to repeat the dark ages, while present day humanity had evolved to the point of seeing the damage religion actually does. He chose Juno as the lesser of two long term evils.

When he was 4 years old he watched as his Mother burned to death, he finds out that he's been helping the people who really burned down his village,he was forced to kill his best childhood friend and then his Father. He's not a damn playboy like Ezio because he's serious about what he needs to do from the beginning, and I wouldn't actually be the happiest guy alive if I were in his position. The first two hours of this wasn't very entertaining. But later, it gets more intense. More passionate. If you'd play or watch at least half of it, you'd notice. I think the reason why so many people dislike AC3 is because they haven't finished halfway through. It was boring to them, so they dicided to quit soon. That's just how it seems to me at least. Because it got so intense and awesome, I just can't imagine any AC fan disliking it. Sure it's not as good as the previous AC games, but it's definetly not bad. I loved it! The story is amazing!

      @Vic2point0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      paradisecityX0 That is the first time I've ever seen the games Final Fantasy 8 and GTA 5 on the same list! Well I loved FF8 because it had a very intriguing story, was actually well-written despite claims to the contrary, boasted one of if not *the* best soundtracks ever in a video game, and of course carried the tradition of granting the player *freedom* in where to go and how to play. Hated GTA 5 for basically trading gameplay for image. GTA: San Andreas had a jetpack, demolition derby, the emergency vehicle missions (ambulance, firefighter, etc.), gang wars/acquisition of territory and so on. These things didn't just look "cool" and weren't added for the sake of making it some attempt at a real life simulator; they were just plain fun.
      I wouldn't consider this opinion about being anti-change or uncultured.

    • @paradisecityX0
      @paradisecityX0 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vic 2.0 All those games were good (San Andreas I would say is the best game ever made). And I'd say the "hate" for various games is unnecessary, not mere dislike (I used to "hate" games like Ico, HL2 or Fallout 3 bc they were overrated). Like Unity, there's nothing to "hate" about it (at least I don't see why), it wasn't the greatest and my least fav AC. And was rather depressing.

      actually the person haytham is first seen killing in the game actually owned the hidden blade haytham has haytham took it from the assassin when they were fighting but due to some circumstances haytham actually let the assassin go.

    A lot of people out here are hating Connor, comparing him with pervert Edzio... I am not a Edzio hater. Each Assassin was great in his own way... The fact is, upto Assassins III UBI did great job. 4 and above it really sucks.
    The fact is that, Connor is a different man. He has rights to express his feelings and has rights to be the way he want too. A lot of people want to be like Edzio or have personalities like him, but I have personalities like Connor... Edzio grew up in a family in a city, Connor grew up in woods without a father and only his mother. Edzio was fucking pussy's and sucking tits by the age of his early adult life. Connor on the other hand was a child when he saw his mother being burned and saw her dying. Edzio lost his family and he started all with a revenge. Connor saw the end of his kind and started all for revolution. Edzio grew up with freedom, Connor grew up being trained with discipline. Edzio wanted to kill everything, Connor wanted to give a second chance to everyone... Edzio believe in killing and Connor believed in forgiveness... Connor is the real man when compared to Edzio. Cuz Edzio had a lot of protection next to him, where as Connor's dad wated to kill him!!! Great personality you are Connor and here by say you have the heart of a Lion and faught 10 people at the same time... Love you Connor for the kind personality you are!!! Great job UBI and thank you for creating this iconic character... I know its just a game at the end, but appreciating the creators mind!!! ^^

      Ezio had people from the assassin's order secretly guiding him and helping him throughout his journey. Connor had to earn every one of the help he's received and probably was not easy due to the fact that he was seen as a savage by most and at the end even his own friend would try to kill him. And as he progressed further, hearing the Templars side of the story might have affected him somewhat because he's still very cautious in trusting people.
      And by the end after Connor essentially severed ties with Haytham after cooperating with him, Connor runs back home to Achilles to set things right. Connor has been the most mature and noble out of the assassin's. At the same time though he has his flaws of being reckless and naive. People may hate Connor not due to his character but because of the slow pace of the story. Since Connor was essentially leading the Revolution and having huge impacts in it, they failed to put him in more "human" situations.
      My favorite part was the interactions between Connor and Haytham. Maybe if we could have had more scenes of that nature, it would humanize Connor more to be relatable and understandable to the audience. Still, Connor is a great assassin and I don't understand all the haters.

Then i heard the negative reviews about this game but i didn't really care and decided to play. Haytham's character was so interesting that it got into the game pretty quick !!!*SPOILERS*!!! ..................
    until he turned out as a templar. i really thought that Haytham was gonna be wearing that assassin's robes. Connor's story was interesting as well but i hated few missions. Still i liked Connor's character too, there was great fighting moves, some side missions , exploring and story. not to forget the soundtrack was great, Lorne balfe did great fucking job in this game.

      *AC4 SPOILERS BELOW*
      3600vegeta Edward is not greedy. He became a pirate because there was no way to earn enough money doing honest work at the time. He told his friends he was going after the observatory because it would make them rich, but that wasn't really his motivation. While obviously he needed a certain amount of money to finally be able to retire and live the life he always wanted, he was really interested in the supposed magic the observatory held, and very quickly it became much more important to Edward to prevent the Templars (or anybody for that matter) to get a hold of that kind of power.
      The idea Edward stood for was freedom. In the beginning it was about running away to be free of the oppression of England. Then it was about maintaining that freedom for himself and those like him by building up Nassau, and eventually it becomes about protecting the freedom of humanity in general, to protect them from the power of the observatory, and what people like the Templars could do with it. It became clear that Edward's goals were very much the same goals as the Assassins from the start, and that's why he felt like he fit in so well once he finally accepted that.

      I can give you a few reasons why Connor is not a good character without comparing him.
      1) Moral dissonance: The fact that his moralist rants are in oposition with the way he acts breaks the suspension of disbelief. It really seems like he's not aware that I just killed 8 guards on my way to talk to that NPC.
      2) Wangster: Drama, distress, sadness, anger...'angst' is what makes a story. In this instance it feels whiney and forced, which is unequivocally lame. Now before you go and tell me he has good reasons, keep in mind that the writers decided to kill off his mother and make all this bad stuff happen *so that he would be a depressing character* and not vice versa. Keep in mind this isn't reality.
      3) Unrelatable: It seems like every line that comes out of his mouth is bewilderingly standard and predictable... or then it's completelly out of context.
      4) Lame voice acting: It seems like the actor just graduated of the accademy of 'constantly sounding like you just stubbed your toe'. That obviously contributes to the wangst.
      5) Boring introduction: No thank you I don't want to read subtitles for a half hour in a grand celebration of the native american culture complete with lame and non-contextual music. Just the fact that this is how you meet the character sets the tone.
      6) Mary Sue (or Marty Sue in this instance): It feels like the character has been created by a 12 year old fanfiction writer who really wants to be different and original, and also very serious, and very cool and bad ass. While the result is convincing to another 12 years old, it really is... well it feels like it tries too hard to make this ONE character interesting, with the oposite result. Basically this (probably isn't the case but) feels like some guy named Connor wanted to put Connor in the story, and really wanted him to fight every battle in the independance war, and really wanted him to meet all the historical figures, and really wanted him to be perfect, but forgot to put character flaws.
      7) One dimentional: He himself seems like he's just following a quest arrow without really knowing why he does it. His motives are unreasonable, and are a clear ad-hoc to justify the action.
      8) Idiot: Several time, he's demonstrated to have very poor judgement. No one denies that he is 'naive', but a naive person learns. He, on the other hand just keeps getting 'owned' by every templar he talks to. He never questions wether his 'bird vision' is right and just kills them all and assumes he's the winner, but at this point the average player is rooting for the other team because they understood. For most people, you basically are forced to play as a bad guy... who has all the lame elements of a self righteous knight in shiny armor.
      I... could go on, but I think you get the point.
      I think this character is as close to 'objectivelly bad' as one can be from the standpoints of litterary critique.
      Oh, perhaps the most important.
      Eight deadly words: "I don't care what happens to these people". Connor made hundreds say these words and drop the game halfway, and this is an objective way to say that he's a bad character.

    For those of you that are still stuck on how Haytham became a Templar:
    Haytham was trained as an assassin by his father, Edward. When his mother witnessed Haytham killing a mercenary, she agreed to let Reginald Birch train him. So, technically, his mom had him converted to the Templar Order.

    • @aragog0559
      @aragog0559 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      His mother agreed to let Birch take him to europe and become his tutor, she didn't necessarily know that Birch was a Templar and that he planned to convert Haytham.
      But she's a bitch anyway for being disgusted by her own son who just wanted to save her life.
