So crazy, I watched this episode Friday and over the weekend was going through my childhood cards (yay junk wax era babies!) and no joke, found the Donruss Scott Coolbaugh Rated Rookie card!
Another fantastic episode. Well done, CC team! What a horrible thing to have happened, but what a wonderful thing the family did in response. Thank you for such great, consistent, content. 👍
Loved the video. Love your content. Seen your whatnot sales. Keep up the amazing work. Would be an honor to sit down and talk cards with you and go through my collection. I got a good amount of stuff. Been collecting for years
16:11 "Go Cougs!" Mike Leach auto when he was at WSU. Miss that guy! I remember hearing that tragic story about Scott's brother passing from the foul ball when it happened.
I played high school ball with Scott's brother Mike in San Antonio, and was shocked when I heard about his accident, such a tragedy. It's nice to see what his brother has done in his memory.
Another great episode. I know someone who has a ton of Scott’s rookie cards. Sounds like he has a lot of great stories. My best to his family and hope to see some of these autograph items for sale soon
I remember Scott Coolbaugh when he played for the Tulsa Drillers, used to watch that team all the time...LOTs of stars there. His brother was with the Tulsa Drillers as well...a very sad deal when that traumatic thing happened. i remember the PA Announcer - Cooooooooooooollllbaaaaauuuugggghhhhh!!
There's a tremendous book on Mike Coolbaugh (and Scott) called "Heart of the Game". Goes into tremendous detail, including the story of the unlucky young man who hit the line drive that killed Mike.
I lived in Little Rock when Mike Coolbaugh was hit by the foul ball at an Arkansas Travelers game. Safety changes were made so hopefully something similar won’t happen again
@CHASINGCARDBOARD 200 autographed items, half which had COAs right? You paid the man $4 per item? Cheese and rice not sure how u arrived at your number but I would have thought a min of $10-20/item would be fair which leaves plwenty of room or $2,000-$3000
@@ed-steminator6688 I think at one point they said less than 100 autos with only 30-40 with jsa certifications. Id guess they piece it out for a couple thousand, which makes 850 more than fair?
A lot of those were low priced autographs not worth the cost of JSA, and sell for $5-20 and will take years to sell. The Mccovey can be bought for $40 on eBay or less and it’s the best thing in there (that we saw). Just like junk wax era, it was junk autograph era and everybody signed too much and for little back then. I have a warehouse full of it, and I’m waiting for TY to come over lol. He’s a reseller, not a collector.
I'm pretty sure when people donated items to help the foundation, they didn't anticipate those items would end up in his personal storage unit. 5:56 Some of the stuff "we kept for personal reasons"... Isn't that called "fraud"? Those things weren't yours to keep, man.
After they extinguished the foundation, they had a lot of leftover items. They kept stuff out of that, and sold the rest to us and another retired MLBer. So no, they didn’t commit fraud. They had a TON OF STUFF.
@@CHASINGCARDBOARD Thanks for the reply. I dunno... nothing seems OK about donated items ending up in someone's personal collection, years after the foundation was closed down. I would have felt an obligation to liquidate the items prior to closing down the foundation and put the money toward the cause it was originally intended -- even if it was just 50 cents on the dollar. The last thing I would have done is lock it up in my personal storage unit.
$850? What a joke. I am a dealer and I would have offered way more than that. The Favre Ball had a COA, and if half of those had COA's, you are going to do just fine. It also doesn't cost $75 per to get authenticated. It goes by the athlete and some are only like $20, and there are quite a few big names who are only $20-30. The guys who are $75 are guys who are passed away like Willie Mays, Ted Williams, etc. They may be more now, but they were. Regardless, if you are getting the bats too, then you screwed him at $850. That Judge bat alone is worth more than that.
Haha. 🤣 … what would you have offered? And no… bats were NOT included. It was 40 JSA autos, junk wax, and a stack of non-jsa autos. We offered a very fair price

And classically.....I'm pretty sure card's of Scott are worth.....well.....not much. Not being rude..but it is a fact a HUGE amount of cards just aren't worth anything. Common's....are well.....common. Too bad they don't have baseball card shows that feature "common" players. People would like that. Hope things work out for his brother.
Such a low baller every episode a Aaron judge bat is $850 alone ! I was to pressed seen to many episodes already had to go to comments asap when I heard the offer
Another smooth brained comment, couldn't even understand what was being said in the video about the bats but fires off about them thinking they were part of the deal.
I don't remember Mike Coolbaugh playing (2000?) but I watched Scott with the Padres in 91 and somehow remember his Topps card with the Rangers that year. I have oh so many cards worth less than a penny but are still fun to me. And dirt cheap to buy so I dont have to worry about ROI like those poor souls that invested in Aristides Aquino or Wander.

I remember Scott, when he was with the OKC 89er's. Nice guy, he would sign Auto's for the kids, me being one.
Wowzer. Real life simon birch situation there. Prayers up for the family
What a tragic story. The very last thing you’d expect to happen at a baseball game. What a good looking family Mike-RIP

I didn't know that about his brother though 🥺😔 awww
Average bat weight is 32oz. Judge uses a 33oz bat which is heavy nowadays. Player that used the heaviest was Babe Ruth with a 45oz bat.
this one hit home, no pun intended
