Well if they didn't charge stupid fees for getting rid of certain junk then the problem wouldn't be as bad. I replaced a toilet recently and found out my city charges $15 to get rid of it. I just took a hammer to it and it went in the trash bin.
The city of Indianapolis closed a similar site near my home a few years ago. It was working nicely for a few years until the illegal hauler people started night dumping trash. It also developed a problem with aluminum poachers. In the end it was surrounded by bags of household trash, junk furniture and junk electronics. I once got into an argument with an illiterate hauler dumping trash who insisted it was a trash dumpster. Someone lit the overflow on fire more than once. By the time it ended fresh exchanges of empties would fill with prohibited items by sunset day one. The concept is sound. The lack of monitoring and enforcement is what ended it.
Why cant the city have household dump sites right there as well........ If they made it easier to dump unrecyclable trash we would have less trash in the city as well as in the desert.
But it makes people feel good to think they are saving the planet by recycling. I have been to our landfill where the trash trucks are dumping and in exactly the same spot the recycling truck is backing in to dump as well it all goes in the same large trailer to then go somewhere else. This is a receiving point where it is then transferred to the landfill.
The same thing happened where I live. We used to have a big dropoff location behind the mall. People started leaving tree branches, garbage and even junk cars. The city shut the site down because they said it was getting too expensive to clean up all the junk people were leaving.
It always sucks that a few people will screw it up for everyone else, plus these same people will just dump stuff off the side of the road anyways. Most likely closing the site will just spread the trash out somewhere else causing another mess.
The recycling center near fire station 15 is mostly pretty clean recycling other than some small stuff, but the city really needs to go empty those bins more cause there’s a lot of overflowed the only contamination that’s really bad at that site. Is the orange dumpster the hefty renew the city needs to have. Locks or something on the hefty renew dumpster cause like I said there’s a lot of contamination in there and probably a bigger glass recycling dumpster since all of the times that I’ve been there it’s been pretty full.
Either have a windshield sticker and cameras at the entrance and around the site which is what my city did after a similar problem at a yard waste drop-off which has excess recycling and a organic compost bin which has a combo lock that residents are given the combo for. this is a result of people dropping vacuums televisions and other unaccepted items for residents one sticker is free and a additional is $5 I believe if someone doesn't follow the rules check the cameras and file charges. The other option is a county or city transfer station, set hours a proper place for recycling, garbage, construction debris. almost everything is free to residents via property taxes with an express outdoor and drive through building for common household recycling, bagged trash not sure where something goes ask an employee. are you a contractor or non-resident of the city or county fees are possible.
I generally find people respectful and helpful (like adding a few items to an orange bag if I don't have one). The Ward 5 site is most convenient for me. I've even moved material from one bin to the correct bin, if it isn't too messy. It can be a little confusing to get the right bin, but items like tires and appliances obviously don't belong at recycling.
That is very kind of you. I’m sure the WM employees appreciated your help. If everyone helped out like that the world would be a lot cleaner. Now with them shutting that location down I’m worried people will just trash the desert instead.😢
ive worked at a few recycling centers over the years and almost all of them sent their stuff to the dump and it never went for recycling thos blue recycling bis end up in the dump no wonder they are shutting it down
Our "Rules" in Canada just changed, (again) and all Cdns. follow "the Rules". Why is it a surprise in a freedom fry state???!!! NOT following "the Rules" is the game down south.
This was not good thinking! U can either A) encourage the homeless people in the area to help sort this rubbish into different dumpsters to receive pay for their time or B) u could drop off all rhis trash/ rubbish at the local prison. Have the prison inmates sirt through this for $2 / hour. In my opinion this trash collecting will pay for itself! 🌎✌️💋🙏
For one heavy metals are valuable, they are getting everything for free and still complain about the material. Its kind of unreasonable if you think about it. If anything there should be attendants there weighing everything and paying at least something. I take old electronics for free. If someone is going to give me a mixed box of odds and ends I am delighted and I will sort out what I can't use. They gave it to me for free!
The reason you can’t recycle a lot of things is that there isn’t buyers for things like Styrofoam hoses and stuff like that if there were buyers for that kind of material, then it would be accepted
The 3% who screw it up for everyone else.
13% i bet

thing is most "recycling" isn't actually recycled. it get hauled to the dump because it costs too much to sort it
Absolutely.
This is all trash.

No, it doesn’t. It gets taken to the MRF

The dude talked about a refrigerator being dumped, but there's a buttlode of refrigerators there.

There will always be selfish and ignorant people that ruin it for everyone else.
Ok so then we will dump on the side of the road or in the local creek or river like we used ti do .

A contractor can save $700 by dumping, no citiz3nship, no stick around meester george.
No!!! This is the closest one to us!!!! 😢
Let your mayor know !

Do a report on WHERE THIS STUFF GOES ..... Hint:
It's NOT "recycled."

Old Tires have to be taken to a Tire Shop.
They can recycle the items. But there might be a small $3 fee.
Maintenance of these site and security cameras to know who does what can change this.

Why don't they have people there guiding and checking people? It's crazy to close a site because other sites will get over loaded.
The city is broke.
@@n0dedotorgWhere does the money go?Ukraine? Leave it to a liberal mayor to mess it up.
@@abdkwwo She spends money the city doesn't have on things like the "Office of Equity."
That would make too much sense.. Tus on doesn't value intelligence like most places do.. it's ass backwords

Where am I supposed to take all my trash now?
Your State's Democrat headquarters.
Yeah the idiots ruined it for all the good people. Need a person on site, but that costs money so the recycling fails again.
Why not use the huge revenue from recycling to pay a guard?
😂😂😂😂😂
@@Petesworkshop2225 probably use the xtra money for pay raises.

Pssst. It's all trash recycling in America just isn't so.
You should recycle everything, not have a long list of things you can't recycle.
