Also, I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned this previously or not, but the last maybe 3-4 videos have been so quiet that I've had to turn my volume up all the way just to hear you, and even then it's pretty quiet. Any way you can turn your mix volume up so that we are able to hear you better? It has only been your videos, so I'm wondering if the sound mixer is muting you somehow.

I have some older videos and some events ones that are exfoliating serums and toners. I have a lactic toner and lactic acid serum formula I made a couple years ago that is good for sensitive skin.

I've found mixed information on if HA is heat sensitive or not, so I decided to add it during the cool down to be safe. Also I used the glycerin to hydrated the HA not because it's heat sensitive.

Hey Tara.. Thanks for this amazing formula, I just have a technical question. I hope you answer me.
is glycerin the same as glycerol.. in other words, glycerol has a required HLB value of 4.. is this included in the calculation of the percentage of the required emulsifier? or I typically calculate the required HLB of the oil phase (glycerine isn't in oil phase)
Another question is, if I decided to cut on the apricot kernel oil to 10% and substitute the 5% with 4% kojic acid dipalmitate and 1% IPM as a Penetration enhancer.. do I need to revisit the formula and recalculate the required percentage of my emulsifier and perhaps change it to a more suitable emulsifier with similar skin sense characteristics in order to achieve a stable emulsion... I'm really sorry for the long comment. I'm studying the scientific method of emulsions and your answer will help clarify a lot of things. Thanks in advance
You need to recalculate of course! Also I am not even sure she calculated HLB values, as the HLB of montanov68 is 9, and she added a lot of cetyl alcohol (which raises the HLB a lot). Also why on earth do you want to add acids into your eye cream? Kojic acid won’t dissolve in water, so it needs a different procedure (needs to be heated in glycols first). So yeah, if you change anything, you need to recalculate.
@@tinybarabo first of all thanks for the reply, I really appreciate your time.. So yeah I was wondering the same, Montanov 68 has an HLB value of 9 which might not be enough to hold all of this oil phase stable (I didn't find the HLB of coffee butter, so not sure).. about kojic acid yeah, I know since I chose the dipalmitate it won't dissolve in water. I chose the dipalmitate because it is more stable overall an has a wide pH range of 4-8.. since it doesn't dissolve in water, I suggested we subtract some of the oil phase and add it instead along with IPM which through my study I knew it is a great penetration enhancer of Kojic acid (also here it serves as a stabilizer of the dipalmitate which is great to prevent its recrystalization).. as to why to use it, there are several anecdotal reports suggesting that kojic acid is helpful for dark circles and under eye puffiness.. My mum and aunt had personal experience with that also. So I thought it might be an extra effective addition ro the formula

Any all in one waxy emulsifier will work. Ritamulse scg/ ecomulse, emulsifying wax NF, etc. no sub for regu age though.

Is there any reason why you stop mixing once the emulsion has thickened? Does it have anything to do with the emulsion being filled with air bubbles if you continue mixing?
Yup. You want to prevent as much air going into the product as possible.
I'm having problems finding Coffee Butter here in Australia. Is there a substitute that will do the same job? Thanks Also, I have a Hyaluronic Solution at 1%. Could I use that instead of mixing with the glycerin. What % would I need to use then?
I just made this formula with shea butter and it turned out great.

Did you ever get a soaping effect when you using Montanov 68?
I don’t think I’ve dealt with it soaping yet. Try adding a low HLB emulsifier if that happens. You could also try adding dimethicone.

It depends on what pH your retinol is active in. If it’s active in a pH around 5-5.5 then you can add it.

Why is xantham gum soft needed as an emsufion stabilizer and thickener if cetyl alcohol was also added and serves the same purpose in the formula? Could you make this formula without xantham gum and still have a good end product??
Yup, you could still make it without it. It just enhances the stability due to turning the water into a more viscous gel which helps the emulsion stick more. I’d really only say it’s needed for products you are selling that need really good stability.

Any broad spectrum preservative active in a pH of 5 should work. Euxyl PE 9010, liquid germall plus, triatate Eco, etc

No, Euxyl k 903 is Benzyl Alcohol, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, and Tocopherol.
Euxyl k 903 is its trade name. Trade name might not be the right word, but it’s what the preservative is sold as.
