The first woman who spoke lacks critical thinking. Regardless of gun laws, a 12 year old cannot purchase a firearm legally. She is blaming laws instead of parenting.
No Wayne, you are wrong. Parenting is NOT the cause of gang violence. What you say lacks critical thinking, and is condemnatory, self-righteous judgment. The girl's critical thinking reflects the 160 year conflict between St. Louis City and the rest of Missouri. (As you know, "the City" is not in St. Louis County.) When the City mayor tried to crack down on gun ownership and illegal guns in the City, the Missouri governor told her she could not violate state laws. It's like the girl said -- they aren't in there shooting deer, they are shooting each other. Gangs shooting gang members. The City perspective: Oh yes they DO respect each other. Gang violence is the result of many things, usually poverty, disenfranchisement, disinvestment, and systemic racism. My great grand uncles were part of the violent Sicilian La Costa Nostra. Are you going to blame their parents? No. We know what caused the rise of the Mafia. Read history of Sicily sometime. You sound like you think all parents in the City are crack addicted single moms. But that's NOT true. The sense of community and outreach to others is widespread and ingrained in North St. Louis. Grannys watch over neighborhood kids. So do corner "confectionaries" -- little convenience stores. Boys and Girls clubs. The churches reach out. Public Health reaches out. Community organizers and pastors go into gang neighborhoods reaching out to the members. Gang violence is the issue, not the parents.

@roseannrook7897 but who's in the gangs? Why aren't those kids with their parents? Why don't the parents know where they are, and keep them in check? How much internet do they let their kids access? TH-cam, TikTok and underpaid teachers seem to be the parents these days.
My old job used to send me alone to do inspections and cable in these areas, sometimes in vacant houses. They acted shocked when I was pissed and threatened to quit over experiences I had there, yet the owner and guy who recruited me never worked in these areas. What is sad is that the majority of the residents are incredibly nice people, and were some of the most grateful people people I did work for, but they were extremely poor and basically stuck there. I grew up in a poor white area, and most of the residents of the poor black areas were very similar, only we didn't have gang violence on top of the other things that come with poor neighborhoods. I truly feel for the many nice people who are stuck living in these crime-ridden areas.
I live right here on the North of St Louis in what is known as the Mark Twain neighborhood (it's adjacent to Walnut Park) and is relatively still a pretty good neighborhood but has DEFINITELY declined. I want to put the crime stats in perspective though. There is very little Random Crime happening, the crime that I see and am aware of is Crime amongst Criminal elements, in other words, this thug beefing with another thug and the two take each other out. This IS NOT GOOD, but I want to be honest in letting you know that random people aren't just being targeted. The thug on thug Crime needs to be eliminated as well though because the neighborhood used to be a beautiful place to live in.
I am so sorry. St. Louis is a nice place. The people from here are so kind and sweet. The lack of funds, education and nothing to look forward to for a lot of young people perpetuate a lot of crimes. "The fast track to money" seems to capture attention and how is it so easy to find drugs and guns? So sad. Probably mental illness adds to this phenomenon and unprotected sex giving unplanned births and sexual illnesses with no health care. This is a huge problem. St. Louis has some beautiful homes with a rich history. Too bad no one living in those areas are wanting to expand upon showing guests/visitors the history, restaurants, places that are interesting like cities such as Boston, New Orleans... St. Louis has a lot of interesting places. The Dog Museum, The Doll Museum, The Campbell House, The Lemp Mansion, the subway under the city, the cooling system where Lemp kept their beer cold, the caves/ caverns, Belfontaine Cemetary, Calvary Cemetary, William Burrough's home where he was born, his grave, William Tecumseh Sherman's grave, August A. Busch's mausoleum, The Pulitzer's have a summer home here. Bobby Rigg's former home is here too. St. Louis also has two of only a hand full of water towers I think there are only five and I know two for sure, possibly three are located in St. Louis. Of course, The infamous Arch is here. Crown Candy Kitchen is on North St. Louis street, I think and Joey Chestnut has a plaque there for drinking milk shakes. He's the current Nathan's Hotdog winner. And your Mark Twain neighborhood. His home was there. I don't know if a buyer invested in it or not. It was in disrepair, however it was a historical landmark. And The Alexian Brother's Hospital site where The Exorcist happenings occurred. There is SO, SO, SO much more too. I wished one or several of the young people would consider not going into crime and would think of investing in a business of showing guests around St. Louis and it's rich history. ❤
I have been in and worked in some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city. I was going to say the same thing. Very rarely are crimes commited at random. The 2 best pieces of advice about the area are 1. Avoid it if you can, and 2. Mind your own business. For the most part you will be left alone unless you make yourself an obvious target for crimes of opportunity (like openly wearing expensive jewelry or keeping your phone out).
I work in south city near Carondelet Park. Love the area I hope it will improve. The saddest shit is that you don’t see kids playing outside anymore. A rough childhood.
I do heating and cooling and have to go out to these parts of the city sometimes, people have to put cages around their air conditioners out of fear of it or parts of it being stolen, houses are literally collapsing in on themselves, most businesses have been abandoned, and even churches and schools are abandoned and falling apart in this area, the streets are dirty and aren’t maintained because the city doesn’t want to use resources to clean an area that residents don’t care to keep clean and not to mention service workers won’t work out here because of fear of being shot or robbed, when you work in these parts of the city you won’t go more than 5 minutes without hearing police sirens and it’s like that all day every day
My mom grew up in Walnut Park in late 50s and 60s moved to St. Charles in early 70s. My Grandpa grew up in Berkeley in the 30s to 50 something mostly farmland back then. I love St. louis and the surrounding area I was born and raised in the area, sad to see some areas in steady decline.
I work construction onthe north side of St. Louis for about 25 years but in two shootouts you go down there fuck around and find out overnight it sounds like outdoor gun range it took the cops 15 minutes to get there because they have to have a minimum four cars to come in there
I live on Tre 9oo ♿️ block of Lexington for 30 years. Believe me I don’t wear it as a badge of honor but Im not ashamed! Been Nothside born and raised. THE GREATER VILLE is just like every other hood in America and slums all over the world 🌎 “they all stink”! You gotta stay prayed up and most importantly keep that tool on you like you tryna to fix 🔨 something!
Nobody wants to live or raise children around people who have no respect for others or themselves. People being afraid to speak up about their neighbor’s children or their own destroying lives and the community, opting to keep quiet is not enticing to prospective residents. Living in constant fear is not living!
When they got rid of the projects they thought it would get rid of the problems associated with them but in reality it just moved the problems to another area where it is less confined and spread out so it's more difficult to keep under control! This is the same as blaming guns for the violent thug problem in big cities, it's not "gun violence" it's violence committed by violent thugs. If you can not identify what the problem is or the cause of the problem you can not solve or end the problem and many large cities like St. Louis keep have been trying the same old tricks for decades without having good results because they fail to identify what the real problem and it's cause is!
Today, Channel 5 NBC network just announced it is leaving downtown St Louis. The last remaining network studio still downtown. It openly stated it is leaving for the sake of the safety of it's employees. How sad is that? HOW MUCH LOUDER DO OUR CITIES HAVE TO SCREAM FOR HELP?! The 'problem' is obvious. But will political correctness prevent us from dealing with the problem and be the final nail in our once great cities coffin..? There are over 10,000 empty, abandoned buildings in StL, and the vacancy in downtown commercial space is over 60%. Another black run, Democrat city literally on the verge of complete collapse. What more proof do we need..?
One thing to remember is that St. Louis has 300,000 people but the St. Louis Metro Area is 2,800,000. So the crime figures in the decaying shell of the actual city is statistical for just 1/9th of St. Louis Metro population. The South side all the way down to tower grove park and further is infested with crime as well. Everyone I know who wanted to be 'urban pioneers' spent lots of money fixing up nice old homes etc. had to flee the crime.
St. Louis is NOT THAT BAD. If you stay out of the slums ANYWHERE you usually won’t have any issues. I live in STL and don’t know or frequent these areas WHY because WHY would I be in the slums. We have a LOT to offer her outside of the ghetto.
Jesus, some of these neighborhoods are ten demolitions away from being fields. I guess that's how it ends. Last one to leave turns the lights off and then they knock the house down.
I digress with this statement, as someone from St Louis I think we need to work together to bring people together and bring communities together. I rather us create a plan to help build,Instead of telling people that they should not live here because it’s dangerous . Mind you It starts with us to make a difference. for you as an officer, I may not understand what you face protecting are great city. However telling people they shouldn’t move here because of what goes down in St Louis, doesn’t help change are image. Like I said, I may not understand what you’re going through but it’s important to be apart of the change versus admitting defeat. Because when you say are city isn’t welcoming, you’re also saying that are city is defeated. For you as an officer I challenge you to break the stereotypes of St Louis and look for way you can serve and reach people. If the violence makes you feel sick inside. Join non violence prevention groups, help a local business and do everything you can to protect your community. Be the change you want to see. I’m sorry that the trauma you face has crippled you. But don’t let the negative stereotypes and the one side opinions from others stop you from hope. You’re a brave soul for going out in are community. Stay up and God blesses
dont tell ppl not to move here lol just tell people to think about the area they’re moving to. there are plenty safe options in the county, even the city if you still wanted to be there.
My family was among the first group of Germans to settle there. Multiple generations stayed there until we went to NoCo in the mid 70's. It's very dangerous in both places now. We have been in SoCo since the mid 80's.
Yep, the European immigrants flourished and built a great city, then all moved out, and people yelled "white flight! We can't survive without the tax revenue provided by the hard working people who contribute to society!" So then they try to come back and invest in the neighborhood, where they're told "gentrification! This is our neighborhood, we don't want you here, why you always trying to take what's ours, quit oppressing us." Make up your mind.
My grandma migrated there with her family from Austria in the late 20s to escape tensions building in Europe. My great grandpa was drafted to fight for Germany in WW1 and didn't want any part of what was coming.
@@iam.3603 Crime is everywhere, that can be said for every corner of the world. In 30 years here the most we've dealt with is a car being gone through once. All they got was a hoodie because we don't keep valuables in our cars. Could that change in the next hour? Sure, nobody is immune to crime. Statistics don't lie and there are areas that have higher and lower chances of crime affecting you.
You must be talking about Baden (German Town) in the early 70s Baden was a thriving community with businesses and shopping plazas, bought a bike from a bike store on broadway at the Mclaran Divide
I live in North Saint Louis love my city. You have to know every where you go is not safe really so just stay prayed up all the time and you will be ok❤
I’m a white girl that’s lived in St.Louis 25 years. It’s not as bad as this video is making it sound. Inner city crime is bad in lots of places, not just STL. If you come here to visit the city and what it has to offer, you won’t feel unsafe.
@janes6894 I agree. Use common sense. Especially your gut instinct. If it doesn't feel right, don't go there. Crime happens everywhere if you think about it too. Some not as prevalent as others, but it does occur. The residents of St. Louis are genuinely nice people. Friendly people. And there is beautiful architecture that is extremely rare that can't be seen anywhere else in the U.S. the Springs and Falls are GORGEOUS. There are lovely flowering trees and bushes that are immensely fragrant in the Spring. In the Fall there are migrating birds and it's not unusual to see bluebirds. In the Central West End there are tons of wild Mulberry trees and the berries from the trees are so sweet! I'm sure the trees are all over. The Magnolia trees are magnificent. In Illinois, they are puny and a little shrively appearing. St. Louis is really beautiful. And the residents are kind. 💗
does your street have a state in it? or do you live in the county? its really this bad around the fairgrounds. there really is alot of things stl has to offer but if youre not from here you can find yourself an innocent victim at rates higher than most other cities
@@ThomasEdmond-x7d Funny i lived directly next to the fairgrounds in Columbus Ohio, that neighborhood was a literal war zone. I heard they cleaned it up alot in the last couple years. I guess the fairground in Midwestern cities are known ghettos.
Just stay clear of cities and blue counties. It's not so bad out here in St. Charles.

Before the shut down of the all African American staffed hospital, Homer G Phillips, there were many successful professionals who worked there and once lived in these communities. These were once thriving communities.
I worked on a section 8 apartment building on St. Louis Ave in the greater ville. Swat team with battering rams came in to test what they’d need to break down the entry doors. We had to park on the street and I will say my truck did not get broken into lol
Just moved near Penrose and Newstead a cut throat area !! I was born and raised over here tho (JVL) and know how to adapt to certain areas. Lived on the southside for many years but the southside getting just as bad as north and westside! Actually, the apt I just moved out of on the southside on 38th street was Jerry Lewis Bey Jr old apt. He had so much mail coming there and a sheriff came there looking for him about 4months ago lol. I will NOT be over here on this north side for long tho, that’s for sure!
I was locked up with Jerry Lewis Bey at Marion Federal Penitentiary and ate lunch with him on most Sundays. He came to the temple every Friday too. Very nice brother but if you know, you know.
There’s a lot of old beautiful homes in this area too. It’s a real shame. As others have said, stay out of this part of Saint Louis and you’ll feel safe. If you have to go there for work keep your head on a swivel and get out before noon.
This is ripping my heart right out of my soul…. It’s appalling how little these communities mattered… having things to be proud of torn down to create more heartbreak and segregation… I grew up in the mountains of Montana. I can’t even begin to wrap my head around this.
The so called community doesn't matter to those who live there. Keeping them segregated helps the rest of the area stay safe and nice. Fix your own area, nothing is stopping you but yourselves
One more thing. I’ve Door Dashed N STL a handful of times. On a couple of them dudes told me i was crazy to be there at night alone… I was brand new i had no clue. I do now after four years. I honestly LOVE that city

@@jr42a1so you are purposely ignoring the fact that these areas have been destroyed financially and have been disinvested and robbed of billions over decades that could have saved them. the current status is due to politicians stealing funds from these areas over and leaving them the shell of neighborhoods that are seen today which is why such crimes thrive in these areas because the government is actively leaving vacant properties unattended while preventing them from being leveled or rebuilt
All we have to do is start reading the Bible because in the Bible it say we are a cursed people and why are we cursed because we didn't keep the commandments of the Lord read Deuteronomy 28
These issues stem from intentional disinvestment, redlining, white flight, etc. And the violence isn’t just coming from neighborhood residents. We also have the deadliest police force in the US. Everything being shown here has resulted from intentional acts of the higher-ups, to make sure Black neighborhoods have fewer opportunities than white areas of the region. I live in south city (near Grand & Gravois) but I‘ve spent a good amount of time on the north side for work. I’ve never felt unsafe anywhere in the city, though I’m mindful of my surroundings and don’t go walking around after dark. There are so many people in every one of these neighborhoods who have been working to make their communities safer and a better place to live. They could use more support for small businesses, Black-led and/or hyperlocal organizations (e.g., The T, North Newstead Association, Cure Violence, etc.). It’s not going to get better until people outside north city decide these communities are worth investing in.
Why would anyone want to invest in these places so long as dangerous, uncivilized people live there? All the investment and new infrastructure is spreading out and away from the city for exactly this reason - to get far away from the group (race) of people who have ruined these once great areas of St. Louis.
you would think people would take more pride in themselves and their neighborhoods wanting to get educated and make something of themselves than to be thugs seeking out drugs an causing mayhem and death which isn’t gonna get them nothing but dead or in prison/ hell and shame their families.
St. Louis and the immediate surrounding areas looks like a war zone. Don’t believe me? Take a drive start in the city and work your way out. Everything is condemned and there is trash everywhere. The sad part is a lot of the remaining structures even the ones that are falling apart, show glimpses of how beautiful the area once was. I live 45 minutes from downtown and I avoid it at all cost.
Kids ...black , white, latino, slavic....are living in desperate poverty in many different parts of STL... Best thing that can happen to any of them is some influence of goodness from someone they look up to.... something that makes them feel good and decent, that they can understand.... without that influence there will never be anything that shows and proves that difference of living by doing the right thing with morals and ethics ... thus leaving them to be indoctrinated to street survival by any means necessary mentality , which just locks another generation into the cycle....when all that children see and interpret and LEARN from is violence, theivery, and hustling...thats exactly what they will become...with no one close to them to show them any real difference from good and bad....we get the generational dysfunction that now seems irreversible.... being taught good vs. bad when your mental consciousness is being formed is the missing cornerstone....and until this happens in major capacity.... history just gonna repeat itself.
This is the stuff that makes me laugh my ass off when the NAACP puts out a travel advisory warning minorities about going to places where there are a lot of white people. Who is taking the bigger gamble, the black guy who drives through the white town and potentially gets pulled over by "raycissasscops" for their expired plate and given a warning, or Chad, who took a wrong turn and is thinking about asking those fine gentlemen hanging outside the gas station for directions? These communities are sick and beyond repair. Nobody is willing to act in good faith and put in the work. It's all just deflecting responsibility and avoiding making the changes that need to be made. I have no pity for them.
Not really north county peoples moved to these neighborhoods and they moved back to north county ain’t nothing change people move to the city or the county don’t matter r
People who are, for some reason, incapable of helping themselves. Travel. A few miles west to St Louis suburbs and its peaceful, prosperous and beautiful.
Love my city but as locals we know the spots. When we gotta role into the heavy areas you just gotta act right and be ready. I'm almost 40 so some of those areas have changed. Hall street baden hyde etc. I was born and raised on the south side that area def has their issues but I love the south side. The shitty part of stl is you'll be riding and all is well but it can change up one block over. There's spots on the Southside that has million dollar houses then 2 blocks off that gated community is a hood. The city county separation perpetuated the randomness of the raw spots. I've stayed in baden, Compton and Caroline, all over the state streets etc. St louis is just its own melting pot. We got it all.
I have lived in STL my entire life. Do not listen to this guy talk about diversity. Violent crime directly correlates with racial demographics here. In a city that’s half yt and half blaq, murder rates are always well above 90% blaq on blaq. Often zero murders committed by yts.
Grew up on newstead by elmbank wasnt that bad in the 80's as for violent crimes it was just alot of drug adducts, pimps, hoes, and hustlers. In the early 90's you had crews from sumner and beaumont always goin at it. Moved to the county mid 90's. My advice dont move into any apartments on bellefontaine from chambers to Parker
Propaganda. I also reject this music. It’s awful. 🤦🏾♀️ As a native of STL, resident and world traveler, you find violent crime everywhere. I was mugged at knife point on the south side while canvassing for my job in my early 20s near $500k homes in the city. Surviving that made me wise up. When you have a government local or otherwise that does not bring resources but further divides us, this is what you get. You learn where not to go or where to live if you can afford not to. Thankfully, I had a parent to help me leave a different northern part of town so my children would be able to learn and be safe. Parents have to do better, grandparents have to step up. Everyone has to heal in order to continue to heal the generations to come or the world will influence them.
Last night, new years eve, from 4:PM until 4 in the morning I heard somewhere between 3000 and 5000 gunshots. I'm neither joking nor exaggerating. Everything from a .22 to a fully automatic AK-47. Luckily the sound of the gunfire wasn't drown out by any pesky police sirens. Ground Zero... Grand Ave. and W. Florissant, a few blocks from my home. A video or reporting cannot do it justice. If you're traveling across the nation using I-70... don't. Think of Uneasy Rider, L.A. via Omaha!!!
the music is way too sinister.. its as if the video is about some type of paranormal cannibal ghost alien murder cult lol the video is really informative though

I grew up in a poor white area, and most of the residents of the poor black areas were very similar, only we didn't have gang violence on top of the other things that come with poor neighborhoods. I truly feel for the many nice people who are stuck living in these crime-ridden areas.
❤

Very true, mostly gang and thug violence against themselves.

Nobody wants to live or raise children around people who have no respect for others or themselves. People being afraid to speak up about their neighbor’s children or their own destroying lives and the community, opting to keep quiet is not enticing to prospective residents.

Residents & Tourists of St.Louis are both vulnerable to a violent crime. If you don’t know the neighborhood/area, you have no business being there!

IM AN OFFICER 👮🏽♀️ IN ST LOUIS CITY… PEOPLE PLEASE DONT MOVE HERE. WE BARELY HAVE ENOUGH OFFICERS TO WORK 💙💙💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

There are crimes in SoCo as well.

@janes6894
I agree. 💗

Louis.

Kids ...black , white, latino, slavic....are living in desperate poverty in many different parts of STL...
Best thing that can happen to any of them is some influence of goodness from someone they look up to.... something that makes them feel good and decent, that they can understand.... without that influence there will never be anything that shows and proves that difference of living by doing the right thing with morals and ethics
... thus leaving them to be indoctrinated to street survival by any means necessary mentality , which just locks another generation into the cycle....when all that children see and interpret and LEARN from is violence, theivery, and hustling...thats exactly what they will become...with no one close to them to show them any real difference from good and bad....we get the generational dysfunction that now seems irreversible.... being taught good vs. bad when your mental consciousness is being formed is the missing cornerstone....and until this happens in major capacity.... history just gonna repeat itself.

60 years in stl we lost to money big businesses bad politicians with a pimp tongue lol nothing changed they just got bigger in the world and houses that where list to taxes now I blame the city program is responsible for all these empty houses lots people wanted are tried to buy property they couldn't because city turned them down because some of them didn't have extra money in bank week to week living so the city let big title come in buy fix rent more then some could afford so my Theory between the city and big development it was better to let big companies buy first these neighborhoods NO black owners can't afford turn them into low income which both of them get a pay off of city the one you see and the under the table as called paper bag money that's what the older people told me about how the system ruins black and brown neighborhoods so to be very clear I feel that some of these neighborhoods at less 80 percent would and could be saved but now the people complain about big business housing development companies coming in buying even houses where people stayed in they didn't give them first at it someone's comes in and raised rent are just put them out city says we can't because don't have income to us to provide we can fix but mind you houses are empty needed some work back than not like now they still turned down people are especially in the development neighborhoods they knew was coming so today these are houses apartments are store fronts that they let just deteriorate until big companies buy because guess what we can't so this is why the neighborhoods empty long story they took away from family separation kids don't understand they knew everyone was gone no family there parents working now these babies compared to know it was easy to made friends but as time went on meeting the neighbors from heck different rules different kids so what's bad look good to kids if they live long enough to understand what we where asking are demanding of them so they will learn to live slow to stay out an straight up my opinion don't get me wrong we black and brown have a lot to do with change and changing ourselves but now we go back to the past wasn't that simple either but respectful to our people our kids before they let the drugs in and the gangs in we the black and brown didn't some where Forced to do this is now you saying what how can someone @#!person Forced them but yes they did to mess up their neighborhoods and it made the look good they had #@@money so they moved out but let their kids in the streets who supplies them now the turn over is real but who a big cut off all this mess big developments the neighborhoods crap the owners of some of the neighborhoods city and the people who started a d Forced there way to the top buy floating black and brown people as well as the neighborhoods politicians dirty officers for long time well I believe the older people they knew they was in that time and seen me I seen some but I lost to these same streets I'm not are haven't ever drugs are drank but the life of a kid that have compared to a kid that doesn't is exciting for sone of our kids these kid's you talk about another of them wasn't homeless some didn't want to be in gangs but they wanted to be (someone else if you understand )so define that get back at me 🙏💪💞
