    Did the 3 peaks about 12 years ago, it was so rainy they wouldn't let us go up Scafel Pike as the streams you waded at the start were in flood. So slightly different weather!
    I was walking in Yorkshire (in a nice shady river valley), the heat wave day you filmed this, don't know how you were running that mountain in the full sun!
    Disappointing we couldn't complete 3 peaks but still a massive challenge & proud to have done it
    we started Ben Nevis at 4am and completed Snowdon about 3am I think....
    So climbed Snowdon entirely in the dark which was pretty scary & I was so exhausted the long walk down seemed never ending, just wanted to lie down & sleep (snickers bars kept me going!)
    The long travelling & being wet all the time definitely added to the whole challenge.
    Well done on getting your training done 👍

    Nice run. I love the Lake District. Heat is no joke….I live in Florida which is probably the best place for heat training in the world..we have crazy humidity. I’m training for a couple of 50 milers this summer so have to get out in this heat just to get used to it. However, it’s as flat as a pancake here so zero elevation (except the bridges)!

    I struggle to run in the heat, I've been getting up before 5am to get my run in before its to hot. I'm much more happy running in the cold, once I get going I don't feel it. Climbed Scafell Pike as a kid nearly 40 years back, the weather was no where near as nice as it was for the both of you.

    I climbed the 3 Peaks in 3 Days with my dad in 2010. Loved it!
    I do all my training before 8am in Scotland, so my happy temperature is between 0-12 C. Ran the Edinburgh Marathon this year in 15-18C and that was too hot for me! Luckily I was wearing my Ben Parkes Singlet and it was so comfortable it felt like I was wearing nothing at all!

    I live in Florida in the USA. I love running the beaches and its usually around 90F (32c) and 60% humidity during the summer. We don't have much elevation here but we sure do have the heat and humidity!

    There actually IS something to do if you struggle with running in the heat - run in the heat more! A heat-training protocol can increase cardiac output, plasma volume, tolerance to extreme conditions, and even lower your internal thermostat. So if you hate running in the heat…run in the heat 😂

  • @m3phist0
    @m3phist0 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Between hot and cold, it depends on the level of course. Generally I much prefer running with sunglasses and a singlet than with gloves and a baselayer. As long as I can stay hydrated then I'll always pick the heat.

    If anyone is as bad in the heat as I am then consider using the sauna. It saved my ass for my recent 50k (in 30C weather). There's plenty of protocols online.

    Great day out bud! Did the 3 peaks challenge in 1996, completed the challenge in just under 24 hrs with 18 hours of climbing. Remember having a quick sit on the summit of Ben nevis and having a major teddy throwing out moment. the thought of descending into Fort William and the pain I was going to have to hack, I would have paid for the big yellow sea king to come and lift me off the mountain. Funny though, didn't take long before I was doing my crazy challenge!

    Wow when it’s get to running in the heat my bowels just let loose. Even on the treadmill a few times when I make the heat very hot to try and train they just go and then the slipperyness on the treadmill after the bowels go make me fall and it is very difficult to get back up and keep running on the treadmill when it is so slippery after the bowels have released. As you say though you just have to keep ‘getting it done’ which is what I always try and do when it becomes so slippery after the bowels have gone. It is difficult to clean the treadmill after but you just have to keep trying and getting it done and even if it isn’t completely clean after you just keep going

Can a sweat band not be incorporated into the rear of your hats to stop this. I must assume they are very light and comfortable. Ian
