I love these tips. It's a big help to me being a newer wheelchair user. Even if I don't do things exactly the way she does it helps me figure out what ways will work best for me. And it helps me figure out what won't work for me too. I’m a mom to a 21-year-old and a 16-year-old so taking care of my daughters isn't a huge issue but there are still things they need me to help them with sometimes. And being a wife things are changing to so it's a learning process. Any and all tips are worth at least listening to and considering.
I m really thankfull to her for showing us how something's can be handled in a household. I can't work right now and doing the jobs in the house really give me something I can be proud of. I live back at my mums and I get my first wheelchair on Friday in so excited to be able to do so much more. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Paraplegic since 14 , married and had a child when I was 20 , divorced single mom at 26 . Raised my child alone ... shes now 34 and the most compassionate person you will ever meet . She now lives with a newish paraplegic to help him out (her and her GF live with him ) . Being a child of someone disabled gives you more insight on the world and much more education about disabilities . Proud Para Mom who did it herself .
btw , carrying a child as a para is rough . The last 3 month I had to be in bed due to my kid resting on my bladder . Was able to use a catheter for about a month but then my kid would kink the catheter so it wouldnt drain ... hence having to be bed ridden for 3 months . I was induced but that didnt work so I had to have a C section .
Freddo Smith to be honest, I’m a para and it hasn’t been that scary for me. You learn to be creative and adapt as time goes on. I have a 3 year old. I’ve found that he has adapted to my disability as well.

came across your video tonight and it was just what I needed to pick my spirits up. I have been disabled since birth and started using a wheelchair at 13, so nearly 30 years ago now and while I try and be as independent as possible, the last few years have been extra hard. I have been married for 15 years now and always worry I am not being as good of a wife as I could be. You have reminded me that even when things feel extra hard, I can't give up (which has always been my motto, but lately its been hard to remember)
Arrrhgh I HATE the baby question. So so much. My daughter took 3.5 years and 12 rounds of Clomid to conceive. By the end of those 3.5 years, I was so fed up with people asking that I would just smile and answer honestly: "I would love children but I'm infertile." It made people uncomfortable but hopefully, they think twice before asking someone that question again. 9 months after I was finished with breastfeeding her, my son was conceived spontaneously... I think fertility issues are sometimes meant to be our first lesson in parenting - expect the unexpected! I wish you lots of luck on your journey to parenthood! Also, Wheels No Heels is a para mom, but I think she's based in the UK.
This is a great lesson and honestly a funny way to deal with the “asking too many personal questions” type of people. Yes, Gem is in the UK. Hoping to find a mom locally but willing to travel once it’s safe to again.
I love it! I used to have some pretty shady, unreliable, unskilled "care providers" assigned to me when I was finally discharged to my new accessible apartment. I really disliked the idea of dependence. Well, even though my apartment is not exactly ADA ready, especially the bathroom, I needed my independence. So, I fired them all and went for it. First I strategized how to execute. Then I executed mistakes and all. Then I evaluated the results for successes and failures. Finally, I made adjustments to the plan until it worked for me. The vacuum, the moping, hand washing dishes (don't care for the dishwasher), cleaning surfaces, cleaning the bathroom, making and changing linens on the bed, doing laundry. All this with an insistence for beauty and order. Thank you for the latest installation and the affirmation it gave me. I am, at heart, a southern woman with OCD too. LOL.
Thank you for talking about female infertility and SCI. I feel like this needs to be talked about because it seems that society makes it so taboo. I have a sci and unexplained secondary infertility. We've been trying for 2 years as well. Thank you again.

Wheelie mama, from Scotland and I love these videos, I started watching you a bit before I got my first chair- you helped make it a much easier for me to start using a wheelchair, you made me see it in a much more positive way and when I got my chair it felt like a huge moment of pure joy in my life- thanks to your videos I’ve never ONCE felt ashamed or embarrassed by my chair, actually the opposite I love it (and when I go outside my pup pulls me cause I can’t really push much outside- it’s one of her tasks but she did it anyway by herself, I’m training her as my service dog) 1yr chairaversary was April 17th and Freya pup just turned 1 a few months ago. I’m so grateful for Richard like I went from full time crutches and occasion chair use (as a kid when I had a cast from toes to hip and again a bulky powered chair if I had no other options and I hated it- I’d feel so humiliated and just angry and frustrated every single time so 5 months being stuck in a bed trying to not admit I needed a chair was extra tough but then like 2 of Richards videos and somehow by total coincidence me and my mum messaged each other like “I think it’s time I/you got a wheelchair” and it only took 2 videos to completely change how I looked and felt about it but I didn’t expect how much more that would double when I finally got my wheelchair) I’m about to do my first video about my wheelchair in the next coming week and I’m so excited to share my excitement and found love of wheelchair life. I found edlcs (everyday living chores) extremely easy until about 7 years ago. They get a little harder at 60, but you just have to power through it! Good job folks!
Still young to be married but I'm living in my own apartment soon and this video helped so much in giving me ideas on how to do simple tasks like making my own bed, vacuuming and mopping. I thought I'd have to hire someone to help me with those tasks but this video showed me how to try to do these on my own first.

Its not the same as an injury, but I'm always looking for ways to think about what I can do both now and for her future to help her be as independent as she is feisty! Ally please read up on endometriosis. It’s the #1 cause of unexplained infertility in women. Unfortunately the only way to get diagnosed is with a laparoscopy surgery. You can read up on everything on the Centre For Endometriosis Care’s (Atlanta) website. They have some of the best surgeons in the WORLD!
I am really impressed with the way that Ally can get things accomplished from her wheelchair, and her positive outlook on the life that she shares with her husband I have Multiple Sclerosis, so know how that can complicates life, but by watching the videos on your channel, I can see how others work around difficult situations and it's providing me with hope and a more positive and productive outlook on things around me. As I said before, I have been confined to a wheelchair since 2005, and am now learning more techniques to make my life easier.
My son is 16 and has been in the hospital for over a year. He should be home with in two months. He just got measured for his electric wheelchair. He has been very depressed about no one will want to be his friend and he’s not worth anything. I sent him this video. I want to thank you for all the videos you have made. It is helping me so much.
Omg!!! OCD people rule!! I was diagnosed as an adult. Along with adhd, medication was a nightmare. I learned to cope. Something was wrong with the rest of the world, not me. Then a spinal cord tumor entered the picture. I mourned the loss of cleaning the house more than I did the loss of my ability to walk. I was so depressed that I couldn’t clean my floors anymore that I literally stayed in bed all the time. This video means so much to know they’re are others like me out there. Thank you!!

One hack for making a bed using a wheelchair, I find it easier to do the corners like this: top left (in my case), bottom right, top right, bottom left. I find the diagonal tension helps!
i would love to see a collab with an ambulatory wheelchair user to discuss differences and different struggles! i can walk a tiny bit with a cane but i usually use my chair and I'd love to see other rep like me! i feel like you'd have great questions and commentary with that

I broke my back about 4 years ago 2 roddings later I am now a part time wheelchair user, I can walk but not far, and naturally my ins. co. is an ass and won't get me an ultralight wheelchair so I can't go anywhere by myself because I can't lift the chair even the "light weight one we had to buy ourselves" even if it is taken apart, and my husband has a back injury so he can't lift it either so my life is leaving the house for hospital or doctor visits only, but I have hope one day I will have the right chair, and the ability to go out without needing one of my kids with me. Your videos have shown me how independent I can be and seeing you go out having fun really give me hope and have given me answers to questions I have had so Thank You for sharing your story with all of us. I was super active I was a dirt bike racer and did everything around the house, but now I can't, but I now have hope to do more. If I do stand up I am so bent over I can't reach things above my head so that has made life no fun, I feel like my back is going to break in half, but my husband is starting to get what I am dealing with because he has watched some of your videos. You are awesome. Keep it up, and who knows when one day I do get the right chair that fits me right and I can handle on my own I might make my own videos. Thanks for the tips, the honesty, and answering all the questions I have wondered about.

My wife and I have 4 dogs (1 is my Service Dog). I vacuum the house using a shop vac, mop the floors when needed, wash the dishes by hand (we have a dishwasher, but I prefer washing by hand), do laundry using front load machines, pickup the dog poop in the back yard and take out the trash. I think as a couple we figure out what we can and can’t do, and then work together to get stuff done. FYI, my wife and I have been married 35 years of which I’ve been a wheelchair user for the last 9 years.

I'm not a spinal cord injury but I am a wheelchair mother. I've asked doctors for 20+ years what is wrong with me, and they haven't been able to diagnose me, but I believe I have Ankylosing Spondylitis (or something very similar). I was using the wheelchair a year before I fell pregnant (wasn't trying, actually thought I was barren) and decided to keep my baby. I did babywearing to carry her safely on the wheelchair. I'm in Australia.
I'm not in a wealchair. But I got the diagnosis for Mastozythose when I was 16. Now I'm 21 and I always see all my friends be spontaneous. I can't do this😅 And this frustrates me pretty often. But I have to know where I can buy fresh food that I can eat(I'm highly allergic to some stuff) I need to pack enough medicine and so on. But it's okay the way it is. It is different, but is a good life after all.
I'm in a wheelchair too, and I 've live with my boyfriend, I have Ataxia, so it's very very difficult to do the house work. I'm very dependent on him and obviusly, I do not like it. Kisses from Buenos Aires💙
Hello. I had my accident when I was 15. Currently 44 and I had my son when I was 20. Normal pregnancy and delivery which the doctors thought could be tuff. 3 hours of labor and 20 min of pushing. No help with any tools. I was always worried If I would be able to do it. But it all worked out. I also felt the pressure from my then husband about being able to get pregnant at the beginning of our marriage. Having my son was one of the most fulfilling part of my life.
Was wondering if you or she could answer some things. 1. Are wrap around bedskirts an online order item? Never seen/noticed any in a common brick and mortar store. Why not start at the head of the bed when putting on a fitted bed sheet? Seems easier I would think. 2. What model Roomba? Expensive ones from reviews I've read are the only ones worth it. Am undecided on those. Liking the Dyson cordless. Tip about mopping with the wood grain should alleviate my floor streaks, thanks for that tip. Have a blessed day...
Yes I love it im a paraplegic I have been since 2012 and since have had 1 child but I already had 3 kids it took me about a year to start doing everything on my own now I love it im proud of myself

I have orthostatic tremor makes standing almost impossible for longer than around 30 seconds on a bad day , I hate making the bed but you put me to shame youmake it look so easy.
ya know, it's a common saying with every story of someone who lives full or part-time in a wheelchair. "The doctors told me I'd never do 'this/that/whatever" Maybe if the doctors had a different narrative and weren't such assholes sometimes, more of us would have fewer issues in getting back up and going again

i think Drs have to tell you you won't ever walk again? Imagine if they said you might walk in a year or two and you couldn't because your break was to high! you'd be pissed and probably try to sue them?
Being a wheelchair user doesn't mean that life is over it just means life is different . But as long as you have breath in your body. Everything is good

Wheelie mama, from Scotland and I love these videos, I started watching you a bit before I got my first chair- you helped make it a much easier for me to start using a wheelchair, you made me see it in a much more positive way and when I got my chair it felt like a huge moment of pure joy in my life- thanks to your videos I’ve never ONCE felt ashamed or embarrassed by my chair, actually the opposite I love it (and when I go outside my pup pulls me cause I can’t really push much outside- it’s one of her tasks but she did it anyway by herself, I’m training her as my service dog) 1yr chairaversary was April 17th and Freya pup just turned 1 a few months ago. Much love from Scotland and remember to do everything from the heart. Stay safe and well.

I’m so grateful for Richard like I went from full time crutches and occasion chair use (as a kid when I had a cast from toes to hip and again a bulky powered chair if I had no other options and I hated it- I’d feel so humiliated and just angry and frustrated every single time so 5 months being stuck in a bed trying to not admit I needed a chair was extra tough but then like 2 of Richards videos and somehow by total coincidence me and my mum messaged each other like “I think it’s time I/you got a wheelchair” and it only took 2 videos to completely change how I looked and felt about it but I didn’t expect how much more that would double when I finally got my wheelchair)
I’m about to do my first video about my wheelchair in the next coming week and I’m so excited to share my excitement and found love of wheelchair life. I really hope you’re doing well and have managed to stay safe from everything going on in the world- sending you wheelie hugs and love ☺️💙☺️💜

Keep working from the heart ☺️ ps- last year I got a bunch of toddlers at my kids kindergarten/nursery school to like wheelchairs, they had me showing them how I turn and wheelies and tried pushing me around (apart from my 2 youngest being worried I’d get hurt or they’d ruin my chair- protective sons 😅) it was awesome and i was so happy to be able to show them how genuinely happy I am in my wheelchair life (I don’t often get to go outside cause I don’t have a ramp or anything) so when I do go out I absolutely love little opportunities to show it as a good thing not a sad or end of the world thing ☺️ thank you for helping me change my perspective for myself and to pass on to others incluso my sons and mum- much love.

I found edlcs (everyday living chores) extremely easy until about 7 years ago. They get a little harder at 60, but you just have to power through it! Good job folks!
Still young to be married but I'm living in my own apartment soon and this video helped so much in giving me ideas on how to do simple tasks like making my own bed, vacuuming and mopping. I thought I'd have to hire someone to help me with those tasks but this video showed me how to try to do these on my own first.
Don't worry about it, some countries have cleaners every few days just because it's easier to pay someone else who might not have a job otherwise.
I am a spinal cord injury patient. Newly injured. And this has helped me so much thank you. I'm a young mother and it's been interesting figuring out how to do things differently.
Thank you for these videos. I'm an able bodied parent of a 6 year old with Spina Bifida. Its not the same as an injury, but I'm always looking for ways to think about what I can do both now and for her future to help her be as independent as she is feisty! She is a part time wheeler, and your practical info has helped me SO MUCH to anticipate and help her mitigate obstacles etc. Watching you is always so encouraging both for things we face now, and for a clear vision of what it is to meet this particular set of challenges as an adult. Ally please read up on endometriosis. It’s the #1 cause of unexplained infertility in women. Unfortunately the only way to get diagnosed is with a laparoscopy surgery. You can read up on everything on the Centre For Endometriosis Care’s (Atlanta) website. They have some of the best surgeons in the WORLD!

I have Multiple Sclerosis, so know how that can complicates life, but by watching the videos on your channel, I can see how others work around difficult situations and it's providing me with hope and a more positive and productive outlook on things around me.
As I said before, I have been confined to a wheelchair since 2005, and am now learning more techniques to make my life easier.
As a student OT I love seeing the independence with those activities of daily living!

My son is 16 and has been in the hospital for over a year. He should be home with in two months. He just got measured for his electric wheelchair. He has been very depressed about no one will want to be his friend and he’s not worth anything. I sent him this video. I want to thank you for all the videos you have made. It is helping me so much.
Omg!!! OCD people rule!! I was diagnosed as an adult. Along with adhd, medication was a nightmare. I learned to cope. Something was wrong with the rest of the world, not me. Then a spinal cord tumor entered the picture. I mourned the loss of cleaning the house more than I did the loss of my ability to walk. I was so depressed that I couldn’t clean my floors anymore that I literally stayed in bed all the time. This video means so much to know they’re are others like me out there. Thank you!!

I hope you both don’t mind me commenting I just want you to know that you too will motivate people young and old I’m feeling very depressed today but you’ve given me hope I’d like to get my housework done the people in my house don’t understand me some days they do.

One hack for making a bed using a wheelchair, I find it easier to do the corners like this: top left (in my case), bottom right, top right, bottom left. I find the diagonal tension helps!
i would love to see a collab with an ambulatory wheelchair user to discuss differences and different struggles! i can walk a tiny bit with a cane but i usually use my chair and I'd love to see other rep like me! i feel like you'd have great questions and commentary with that

I broke my back about 4 years ago 2 roddings later I am now a part time wheelchair user, I can walk but not far, and naturally my ins. co. is an ass and won't get me an ultralight wheelchair so I can't go anywhere by myself because I can't lift the chair even the "light weight one we had to buy ourselves" even if it is taken apart, and my husband has a back injury so he can't lift it either so my life is leaving the house for hospital or doctor visits only, but I have hope one day I will have the right chair, and the ability to go out without needing one of my kids with me. Your videos have shown me how independent I can be and seeing you go out having fun really give me hope and have given me answers to questions I have had so Thank You for sharing your story with all of us. I was super active I was a dirt bike racer and did everything around the house, but now I can't, but I now have hope to do more. If I do stand up I am so bent over I can't reach things above my head so that has made life no fun, I feel like my back is going to break in half, but my husband is starting to get what I am dealing with because he has watched some of your videos. You are awesome. Keep it up, and who knows when one day I do get the right chair that fits me right and I can handle on my own I might make my own videos. Thanks for the tips, the honesty, and answering all the questions I have wondered about.

My wife and I have 4 dogs (1 is my Service Dog). I vacuum the house using a shop vac, mop the floors when needed, wash the dishes by hand (we have a dishwasher, but I prefer washing by hand), do laundry using front load machines, pickup the dog poop in the back yard and take out the trash. I think as a couple we figure out what we can and can’t do, and then work together to get stuff done. FYI, my wife and I have been married 35 years of which I’ve been a wheelchair user for the last 9 years.

I'm not a spinal cord injury but I am a wheelchair mother. I've asked doctors for 20+ years what is wrong with me, and they haven't been able to diagnose me, but I believe I have Ankylosing Spondylitis (or something very similar). I was using the wheelchair a year before I fell pregnant (wasn't trying, actually thought I was barren) and decided to keep my baby. I did babywearing to carry her safely on the wheelchair. I'm in Australia.

But I got the diagnosis for Mastozythose when I was 16.
Now I'm 21 and I always see all my friends be spontaneous.
I can't do this😅
And this frustrates me pretty often.
But I have to know where I can buy fresh food that I can eat(I'm highly allergic to some stuff)
I need to pack enough medicine and so on.
But it's okay the way it is.
It is different, but is a good life after all.

I'm in a wheelchair too, and I 've live with my boyfriend, I have Ataxia, so it's very very difficult to do the house work. I'm very dependent on him and obviusly, I do not like it.

Hello. I had my accident when I was 15. Currently 44 and I had my son when I was 20. Normal pregnancy and delivery which the doctors thought could be tuff. 3 hours of labor and 20 min of pushing. No help with any tools. I was always worried If I would be able to do it. But it all worked out. I also felt the pressure from my then husband about being able to get pregnant at the beginning of our marriage. Having my son was one of the most fulfilling part of my life.

Was wondering if you or she could answer some things.
1. Are wrap around bedskirts an online order item? Never seen/noticed any in a common brick and mortar store. Why not start at the head of the bed when putting on a fitted bed sheet? Seems easier I would think.
2. What model Roomba? Expensive ones from reviews I've read are the only ones worth it. Am undecided on those.
Liking the Dyson cordless. Tip about mopping with the wood grain should alleviate my floor streaks, thanks for that tip. Have a blessed day...

Yes I love it im a paraplegic I have been since 2012 and since have had 1 child but I already had 3 kids it took me about a year to start doing everything on my own now I love it im proud of myself
My grabber doesn't work I have to pull myself up daily but heck it gives me plenty of upper strength

She’s not “so ocd” any more than I’m “so wheelchair bound” if I have a stubbed today. Ocd is debilitating, it’s not a silly quirk about neat sheets.
She said she was diagnosed with severe OCD when she was seven.

ya know, it's a common saying with every story of someone who lives full or part-time in a wheelchair. "The doctors told me I'd never do 'this/that/whatever" Maybe if the doctors had a different narrative and weren't such assholes sometimes, more of us would have fewer issues in getting back up and going again
Ally thank you for your personal sharing and being vulnerable with us! Is there a reason why you don't just remove the nightstand? That way you don't have to move that heavy thing back and forth every week right? Or switch to something on a lighter?

i think Drs have to tell you you won't ever walk again? Imagine if they said you might walk in a year or two and you couldn't because your break was to high! you'd be pissed and probably try to sue them?
