I will say this
Ladiva is probably the most streamlined Grappler of all time in Fighting games
While someone like say Tager from BB uses magentism to help a grappler’s big weakness in getting in, his buttons are still that of a pretty ok grappler in his respective game
Ladiva’s standard buttons and versions of her moves just feel…..right. Like she doesn’t have to struggle to do grappler things once in and honestly having a grappler that is for the most part safe/plus on block on things is a nice change of pace
King, Armor King, Shermie, and Ladiva are the first that come to mind when I think of good grapplers

I've been having a blast with Granblue honestly. The mechanics are simple and fun. Online lobbies are funny sometimes and pretty friendly. I went from SF4>Tekken 7>SF6>Granblue but I am enjoying this a lot more than I should as someone who doesn't play as much fighting games. Can't wait for the new DLC's to come out.
Bruh, you've been playing fighting games for at least over a decade, I would say you play/have played a lot of fighting games.
@@loganmcgee18 Not really tbh lol. In SF4 I have like 177 hours in 2015. Then for Tekken 7 it's 17 hours in 2021 then for SF6 it's like 29 hours in 2023.

Fastiva is the JP name, I think it got localized for thematic/cultural reasons.
Ladiva's definitely on that list of "Consistently Good Grappler". Most get shot after season 1/ balance patches and end up bottom tier, but Ladiva's survived thus far while still being pretty fun and relatively powerful.
what do you even mean? xD Ladiva has been lowtier forever since vanilla (vanilla was toptier)
@@paatwo Relativity is about comparison. It's not uncommon for fighting games to have grapplers at the very bottom of the tier list in a tier of their own and be near unplayable because system mechanics do not work in their favor.
Ladiva's never been that way. She's obviously not as crazy as the upper echelon of characters, but she's fairly rewarding without requiring you to read everything and has been competitively viable since launch which is not something many grapplers can claim.
Nah. She's significantly worse in this version. With the addition of plus on block guard cancels, people's counters becoming real reversals, no more safejumps off grab unless you spend 50% meter (and I'm pretty sure less damage for them in general), and everybody else's pressure and neutral getting even stronger with 66l, while hers is slow and not as long range, she is much worse as a character. Her pressure and oki used to be some of the best in the game, which keeps her relevant as a character. It isn't anymore.
@@TheLivingShadow_ She's still doin' pretty fire, yeah the universal mechanics definitely make staying glued harder, but she also got multiple good tools herself, Ultimate Lariat is decently fast to cover ground and guard crushes, Ultimate Headbutt is straight up a real reversal of her own, and she still has a decently real strike game to back up the unga bunga throwdown plan, plus Raging Strike is another item on the stack for defenders even from her
A lot of characters also LOST their invincible meterless reversals, having the invuln added to the Ultimate version
@@TheLivingShadow_ Guard cancels are a universal mechanic. If Ladiva's pressure is worse because of it, so is everyone else's. New safejumps will be found like they always are, and safejabs are still a thing. Also 50% meter is nothing, it's one of the reasons why U moves are such a game changer. 66L is also a universal mechanic, if everyone elses pressure is better because of it, so is Ladiva's.
I'm a Manon player btw, so I get it. I really do. I'm not trying to convince you that Ladiva doesn't have obstacles in this patch or that things won't be different. All I've been saying from the beginning is that she can still play the game. She's still fun.

Nobody has a counter THROW exactly by my recall, but probably Belial, he's got some fancy projectiles, a taunting walk counter where he responds by immediately trying to hit them with his divekick, a hit grab special, and generally solid normals
Anila is, while her own distinct creature, holding a lot of Terry Bogard With A Sheep Skin energy, strong forward leap like a KoF character, ground projectiles, her supers are just straight up Power Geyser and Buster Wolf, goofy fun

Grapplers are pretty universally ass against AI opponents. For whatever reason the devs thought it was OK to have high difficulty AI just reaction jump every single time you attempt a command grab.
@@kevingriffith6011 I mean, thats not an issue for Ladiva, she can get grabs off combos, and she has an anti-air grab, getting nothing raw is rough but she also gets some good tick-throw scenarios iirc, and jumping is not frame 1 in this game iirc so they can't escape em
but also they reaction jump anything, just bait it and catch em on landing or out of the air
@@syrelian You can't really *bait* the AI in this situation... At least in almost every fighting game I've ever played. Against a real human absolutely, 100%, because they have to guess, but the AI doesn't guess, it's got a frame 1 jump reaction time. If it's possible that the AI can jump your command grab they have a 100% chance to successfully jump the grab, the only way you can command grab them is as a punish or a counter-hit.
I know this sounds like scrubquotes type stuff, but I'm serious. Admittedly I haven't checked Granblue Fantasy Vs Rising yet because I don't have access to Ladiva, but it's certainly true in every fighting game I've ever played.
@@kevingriffith6011 You absolutely can bait the AI in most games, its just very different from baiting a human player, thats how you bully the shit out of SNK's infamously super-predictive boss AIs, one of the big things is using low-risk moves that still trigger the jump counter response, or using moves when outside of striking range, a lot of these AIs are trigger-happy to evade or punish attacks that won't even reach, leaving themselves open, sometimes its as goofy simple as mashing jab just out of range so that you counterhit their attempted punish
While not relevant for Ladiva or GBVSR specifically, fireballs are often great at this, and in some games, the AI doesn't react to you successfully inputting the attack, but rather to the motion before the input, which means they'll jump or evade just because you made the motion that you might try to fireball them or tatsu them or whatever
@@syrelian I'm talking specifically about command grabs. Again, haven't tested this in Granblue since I don't have permanent access to a character with a command grab, but in several other fighting games (Street Fighter 5 for example) it is *physically impossible* to land a command grab on a max difficulty AI that isn't a counter hit or punish. Specifically a command grab.
I'm fully aware that there are other exploitable holes in most "cheating" fighting game bots, but what I'm saying is that it's a miserable experience for a grappler because you're essentially playing with only 1/3 of your win condition. Imagine playing Zangief but the only special move you can use is Lariat because any other special move is handing the opponent a full jump in combo. That's the experience I'm talking about.

@@Dirpyd1no Its a Free to Play Version, you can do Ranked and shit with it, yes its effectively a demo for the single player RPG mode, but you do in fact get to play as much Ranked or Grand Bruise or Arcade as you want, just with a limited roster of Gran + 3 rotating

I normally dislike anime fighting games like this one but the fact this grappler can put pretentious players with loli characters into submission to end the match makes it extremely fun to watch.

I tried Gran Blue a long time ago but deleted it because of bad online. Rising looks cool, but I am at a point where I am sick and tired of the lack of balance and too many gimmicks, cancels and stupid set ups combined with annoying mechanics and characters like puppet characters +++ I struggle to get invested in fighting games when there are so many random elements and crazy gimmicks. Like can I get something more normal? Shorter combos, more footsies based, 1V1, no perfect parries, no low health super or other comeback mechanics or full screen neutral bypassing + frames, or weird arc changing jump ins +++
The only fighting game with none of those is sf1. The reason those games don't get made no more is cuz they basic and boring. Guess what super turbo was infinitely more popular with broken shit like claw and old sagat
What you're asking for is not "normal", Footsies is pretty much the only game that fits your description.
If a game has no depth, no one will come back to play it, you really can't find a fighting game that has everything you stated, even the most simplistic fighting game Footsies, has a mix-up, in the form of the demon input, why would they add that, to make the game interesting and if a game does not have that “what makes this game different” feel then most people would stop playing it. That is why sequels of games are different. People go back to the old games just because it's different.
In comparison to what you said, imagine there was a platformer with nothing but holes and no platformers, collectibles, bosses, etc. Would that be a fun game you go back to?

Sorry but Tamaki from Aquapazza still has it. No doubt Granblue is fun and all but best grappler? No. Would definitely say better than any NRS grappler but Tamaki still reigns queen. You should try Exodus from Fighting Layer: one of the earliest grapplers with actual confirms into a hitting super: 1-2F double 360 super that can be cancelled after ANY normal or special on block, hit, or whiff, decent footsies, a short range projectile that leads to combos and a move that forces blow quits. Definitely a top 5 grappler ever. Also you need to try Zangief in EX Plus @. His best version ever: and stronger than in EX2 Plus where he was combo food for everyone.
Tamaki is so much fun
