Wonder Girls and Spica did that retro jazz/soul thing before Mamamoo and there were probably others I've forgotten or aren't aware of. You gotta have the vocal chops to pull it off and that's what those three groups have in common.
Yeah, the butt padding was disrespectful to put it mildly. The MV is pure silliness but that joke was in poor taste. Kpop was clueless about that sort of thing back then. Another example from 2014 is the afro wig in the MV for Mamamoo's pre-debut song Peppermint Chocolate. Love both songs but cringe when I watch the MVs.
Ditto to the Tonight recommendation. It's the Spica song I listen to the most often, including a couple days ago when I watched a clip of Spica performing it at member Kim Bohyung's wedding. Tonight would be on my list of all time favorite kpop songs.
I think you'd also like the spinoff subunit Keembo, a duo of Kim Boa and Kim Bohyung. The group name puns on their names. Unfortunately Keembo was almost totally overlooked and tho I haven't heard they've officially disbanded they haven't released anything in a year or two. Their most popular song Scandalous has only 187K views but almost everything they released was excellent.

Spica are those queens for me! Vocals always on point. 2 of the members continued as Keembo for awhile and I would highly recommend them ☺️

second gen GGs is a goodtime tbh. the vocals✅the dance✅the concept✅the visual✅overall the talent. not tryna say that ggs nowadays is not talented but they're all stuck with concepts and make them look boring and look the smae to other grps. but you can see that ggs that didn't stick to one concept are really good despite their popularity
