The comments of how "Sweet Emotions" had elements or a feeling of rap or could in part be what led to rap is something a number of Aerosmith songs had. That's likely the reason why Run-DMC and Aerosmith got together to do a version of the Aerosmith song "Walk This Way."

The lyrics of 'Sweet emotion' was a diss track from 1975... Steven Tyler hated guitarist Joe Perry's gf (later wife, then ex-wife) Elissa, who was always backstage w/ Perry at Aerosmith shows and stirring up drama within the band & their gf's and wives.
In the Aerosmith biography, Elissa was a model and very vogue fashion lady... but she was very outspoken and somewhat of a loose cannon. Steven Tyler disliked her... no one in Aerosmith was fond of her. She got into a fight backstage in 1979 that resulted in Joe Perry quitting Aerosmith.
Ex-manager Tim Collins described her as controlling and unstable... especially when she and Joe Perry were both on drugs... Perry divorced Elissa in the early 80's, but had a son together. So she made Joe Perry's life difficult even after they had split... Thankfully, Joe Perry returned to Aerosmith in 1984.

As is mentioned elsewhere here on the comments, if you want to see the direct line from Aerosmith to rap, listen to "Walk This Way" which was covered by Run DMC in the early days of rap. The other thing to know about Aerosmith is they were/are America's answer to Led Zeppelin, with the "heavy" sound driven by strong bass and rhythm guitar riffs and screaming guitar solos. Nice reactions...keep up the good work.

Steven Tyler was angry with Joe Perry’s girlfriend at the time, the band was living together in a house when Joe Perry decided he was moving out to be with his girlfriend, Steven Tyler was angry because he felt the band was writing better living together, and wrote part of this song is about her and his anger with Joe Perry.
The chorus was “Sweet Emotion”. The digerydo Lex was referring to was a talk box, you are correct Brad.
The bass line in the beginning is absolutely amazing, Tom Hamilton wrote the bass line and I love it’s so funky.
Listen to No More, No More from the Toys In The Attic album, it’s great.

I like that Brad pointed out the rap similarities. A lot of early hard rock especially Aerosmith emphasized that talk/sing vocal style that is basically rapping in a rock n roll style. There is so much overlap in rock and hip hop that goes unnoticed

Great reaction and thanks for sharing. This song predates Rap. But Run DMC did use an Aerosmith song and played a duel song of 'Walk This Way' with Aerosmith. This song is loosely about musicians and groupies. Backstage pass, etc. 'The Rabbit Died' was a euphemism for the girl is pregnant. The chorus is simply 'Sweet Emotion'. Dream On is another song similar to this. 'Big Ten Inch' is more early Aerosmith. Chris

Steven Tyler had always kind of a strong rythm vibe in his singing. He started playing drums, but he also took that from bluesmen, like Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf, guys that were usually between talking/reciting and singing properly. It wasn't quite rap yet, but it was there already in the blues tradition and black music.
Another thing, Aerosmith were ahead of its time, yes, specially from the Toys in the Attic album on, which is where this song come from. Their influence on 80s and 90s american rock is huge. Guys like Slash and James Hetfield from Metallica have said that they picked a guitar in the first place because of Aerosmith.

“Can’t catch me because the rabbit gone died”, back in the old days they tested for pregnancy by injecting a rabbit with female hormones to see if it died

    • @kel5423
      @kel5423 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

In the 1920s a test was developed where a female rabbit was injected with urine from a woman who wanted to know if she was pregnant. If she was pregnant, then her urine would have the hormone hCG in it. If a female rabbit is injected with a woman's urine that has the hormone hCG, then the ovaries of the rabbit would swell and turn yellow. The rabbit would not die from the urine injection, the rabbit died when it was killed and dissected to examine it's ovaries. Frogs and mice were also used to perform the tests.

"Rop" is the greatest word invention of the 21st century; now we finally have a category for Rage Against The Machine! Okay, seriously, according to an article I read, Aerosmith's typical songwriting process goes like this: 1) the instrumentalists work out some jams; 2) Steven Tyler comes in and scats(sings nonsense syllables) over each jam until they get the vocal sounds they want for the music; 3) usually Steven then constructs lyrics that sound like the scatting that sounded best. The lyrics don't always mean a lot, but they sure sound good with the music.

Rage has already been comprehensively defined as Rap/Funk metal, with progressive implications(you could argue hard rock at times). They have a distinctive tone, and obviously vary from song to song, but ultimately they always fall within those genres' parameters.

You also need to do the companion song to this, "Walk this way." It's not one of those things were they have to be played back to back but they pretty much do go together. Walk this way is more fast paced and fun. The lead singer, Steven Tyler is Liv Tyler's birth daddy. Steven Tyler is the best at making up cool phrases. My favorite of his is, "Ain't got no rubbers and it's raining all the time."
A theme? The dude is horny. LOL. Run DMC did a cover of "Walk this Way" the companion song to this i mentioned above long after Aerosmith was popular. Steven Tyler was in the video and i believe the cover. Right after the cover version of that song Aerosmith remerged as a huge group and had a even bigger more successful career than when they first came out.

From what I read in the book "Walk This Way" (the Aerosmith autobiography) Tyler's lyrics are about Joe Perry's girlfriend and soon to be wife at the time and how she was hanging out backstage at every show just getting in between him and Joe. While also not sharing the drugs. Everyone was basically on them and it was causing some problems.
