I love how the game lets you play as the final boss in some parts of your journey to show his journey as well. And you get to be the final boss as well if you want to.
Well the thing people miss in this game is that Fou Lu isn't the villain. He's a tragic hero. He's just as much the protagonist of the story as Ryu is. The final sequence of the game really cements that fact. The villain of the story is the empire.
the epic moment is when your group (ryu's group) reach the west continent, then the battle theme is also changing to this one.. what an epic for 2000's RPG game :D
I like that this piece perfectly encapsulates that time. Things were about exotic places from Goa to Phuket, Ibiza, etc etc. Some people at that time would go to these places.
You know with Gameshark codes you can be Fou - Lu for essentially the entire game right? You can't be him on overworld, but if you empty out two battle slots you can be him for nearly every battle.

Funny how the music's name is the contrary opposite of Fou-Lu inicial ideals. He only ends up wanting to destroy the Empire because they attacked multiple and killed Mami

The thing to remember however is that even though Ryu "submits" to Fou Lu, he's still the more powerful dragon and ends up consuming Fou Lu and reforming the world probably with his own body, hence the next game in the series because Ryu will never seek totalitarian power.
Brave Kid Keon Bennett epsxe is the only emulator that is being updated. The problem are with the plugins. They either enhance 2D art or 3D art, not both. So a game like Xenogears, BoF and Grandia where the environment is 3D and characters are sprites or games like like FF7/8 and Chrono Cross with 2D prerendered backgrounds and 3D characters will look awful in both the cases.
I know that this pretty old, but with Psxfin you can run almost every game perfectly. The best thing is that you only need to configure the controls and probably the memory card path.
The final battle should have been against the fou-lu you used during the game. One should be able to upgrade him in many ways and in the final battle be forced to choose between the two in a non-linear way (you go with Ryu and gay the ending or go with fou-lu...and lose the game). I mean a Fou-lu who could stay human as long as he was programmed to and could transform in any of the other forms with a strategic porpuse. The final bosses were such wimps it ruined the game for me. Fou-lu should be feared and respected, he should have been extremely strong and deserved a better ending. IMHO of course!

I can understand why people dislike BoF 5. But personally I loved the game. I'd go as far as to say it's one of my favorite games ever. Much of it probably comes from the fact that I knew pretty much exactly what to expect from the game. Would I play it again, though? Probably not. It's rather tedious to play. :D
