Now (september 2014) this is quite a standard tactic when fighting a lib. Oh and in general, flying is more difficult because there are so many good pilots that fly alot and retain the new ones from flying.
I love your Planetside 2 videos, but the longer ones, like the Palisade Defence and the Scythe 65 Killstreak, are freakishly good. Please do more of them!
At first I thought that the liberator pilot moved from the pilot's seat to the gunner's seat (not sure if possible, never played the game) because it absolutely seemed like the liberator stalled when the cannon fired. I was impressed at first by the quick thinking, but later amazed when I found out that was an intentional stall to line up a perfect shot.
Kudos to that liberator's crew!
As a Lib pilot, I've got to offer some solutions to dealing with this. Three of them, specifically.
- Roll. Empire Specific Fighters (ESFs) have different silhouettes, but they all benefit from not showing the same piece of skin for long to an enemy. Lib or otherwise.
- Speed. Don't keep the same speed and the gunner won't be able to predict your next position.
- Boost. Get above them, ASAP. Even if it means feigning a disengage, it's worth it.
I've been playing PS2 for about a week and about 15 minutes ago I shot a Reaver down with the Dalton. This is why I searched and found your video because I was unsure of whether or not anyone else had done it. Nice video!
LvlCap you're such a good sport. Anybody else would've raged and shouted bullshit at their computer screen but at least you can recognize good players even when they kill you. That guy should be happy you uploaded his glory moment because it can be a hassle to get this kind of clip with fraps hogging up so much hard drive space.
An upgraded lib with the Dalton and a good Gunner/Pilot team is awesome. It's one of my favorite things to do in game.
With the relatively weak anti air options available on the Liberator, myself and my pilot have pretty much made this tactic our go to AA measure since launch week. We even tried it for awhile with the Zepher, though I was not a fan of it in an AA capacity due to having to land multiple shots.
In terms of defending against this tactic as an ESF - stay high, stay far away, and throw in a wiggle or two.
When a Lib is maneuvering like this, take your fighter up and hit it from the top. The Libby can't fly inverted to point the belly gun at you, and even though it takes longer, he won't be able to run away either.
This is especially true if you fly a Mosquito, due to their higher rate of climb.
Supposed to be. It's pretty awesome to see how good people can get at things with enough practice. Even more impressive is to see some of these guys who can do it from a few hundred meters away, and do it consistently. I've been seeing a trend lately of people taking out aircraft using Lightnings and anti tank rounds.
That was a great shot by the gunner and serious props to the pilot for getting the angle and keeping the lib steady enough.
I still hate liberators though. The AA in this game is very underpowered.
''Hey Liberator, yup you're next''
haha bet the humble pie tasted gooooood!
Serious props to that pilot.
LevelCap I don't have a good PC to play PS2 (and I really want to), so to compensate I watch your videos, pretty much the best I am going to get at this point. So, big thanks on making these vids.
@LevelCapGaming Ok, here is one thing that will help your chances against a good Lib.
1) Visual Contact. Once you see the Lib, gain as much altitude as possible. Your attack run's angle should be high enough for you clearly see the top of the Lib(this makes it hard for the Lib to bring his guns to bear)
2) Hard Contact. Your first run is crucial, deal as much dmg as possible. Turn away before you pass him, or the bellyturret will destroy you.
3) Turn and engage from different angles, you win.=P
I do that all the time with my gunner. It's so awesome watching the reavers/mosqis going down from the main cannon.
I have dealt with Liberators that start pulling stuff like this. The trick is, just stay back. I use the stock laser on my Scythe, it is accurate even at long range. If the Lib is good, hang back and just pepper him with shots.
Only close in with rocket pods if the Liberator is terrible and just tries to fly away from you.
Haha, me and a friend have done this for a while, nice to see others found it as well =)
Took down 5-6 Scytes today alone. A tip to make it harder for their gunner is to engage them when they are on low ground as they need room to roll and turn upside down etc.
I know the feeling. I gave up flying bombers because my gunners would always be hopeless. Don't loose hope, I'm a gunner now with a good eye for detail.
This reminds me when the A-Team had to board in the tank while it was parachuting from the sky...and then they took out two predator drones that tried to kill them. LOL
This video was really great! awesome kill, and great props by you, levelcap
Both RivaLXFactor and Levelcap have vids that are tutorials which are all good. SOE actually used XFactor's for their channel as guides on the Planetside 2 channel. I also suggest IronfistLMS on his LMSTVx channel if you want more vids on flying. He goes into pulling off specific moves like reverse flight.
Fucking awesome. Crazy good coordination to pull that off. Those guys will be feared on the battlefield.
It's funny to see when this was an unusual thing to do. Also to see how people fought libs before RM and hover strafing was common practice.
Post MORE of these! More frequent! I'm loving the PS2 videos!
I love how now this is like.... yeah... normal . Fly like that near a good dalton lib now and you will get merked in .5 seconds
For the liberator piolets who want to do this, the starting gatling gun is much more effective at taking down fighters. You need to increase the clip size and ammo capasity though.
same way you equip any weapon addon or goodie. Go to the loadout page (access from terminal where you get the item you are trying to modify, OR from the bottom of the map click the gun symbol for infantry or the tank symbol for any metal vehicle) then click what you are tring to modify. in this case it would be the scythe primary weapon (just under picture of scythe and to left) this is the custom weapon loadout page.
funny story i did that earlier today while a buddy of mine was flying a lib. its not an easy shot to make with the belly cannon but its so rewarding when you pull it off..
Yeah, because the artillery cannon was definitely designed for flying upside down. Anti air is for easily taking out air, while anti tank is used for easily taking out tanks. Of course, anti air is also used for skillfully taking out tanks, and anti tank is used for skillfully taking out air.
He F2'd into his gunner seat.
I've tried this gunning like this before and it's incredibly difficult, since the Lib loses control and starts kinda flailing around midair without a pilot if you don't know what you're doing. You have to be able to take aim pretty damn fast.
Some outfit members and I run similar to this, flying one Lib with a Zephyr, the "bait bomber", and another (which I pilot) with a shredder, the"sky sweeper". Takes a lot of talk with your gunner, but belly guns can eat up ESFs and other Libs (tank buster also is good for A2A).
I was going to complain about the lack of Battlefield, but this badass video was in my way.
This video and discussion made me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Can't help but just smile at the guy messaging you and the whole deal:)
the 6 shot cannon on the tail is pretty nice against enemy fighters to, better then the other paper bullet firing guns.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that has been struggling to try and counter this move.
I've taken to putting a grenade launcher on my tail instead of a machine gun because this tactic works well enough against most aircraft and it opens up an extra ground assault position on my lib to replace the rather lackluster anti-air tail gun.
Love the Planetside 2 videos Level!
That was done by my old outfit. We specialized in libs so everyone was either an amazing pilot or an amazing gunner.
Which outfit, just wondering.
josh slatter They're long gone now, but LUA
Tom F. Did they merge with someone or just fizzle out?
Wonderful video LevelCap! You may have pushed me off the fence and into giving PS2 a try. Which server do I choose to get into that air battle?
I unlocked a2a rockets with my certs, and I got into a similar situation with a lib. I saw this video the previous day and I remembered right away what will happen next, so I strafed to the side, it takes more calculation for the gunner to successfully hit you and will miss more, so in the end I won barly with 15% health (the third gunners hurt), that lib was more nimble than the mosquitoes.
I say the best wat to go after libs is to stay on top of it and on the side, works all the time!
You have to really play the game to realize the epicness, it's like flying in a jet on armored kill for the first time.
Man... I just gotta say ' I'm glad your on Vanu ! '
Good choice. VS will rule the Planetside!
Every time I try to fly a lib I get gunners who have no clue what they are doing. I'd literally had a guy chase me across the map and my gunner wouldn't switch seats to my AA back weapon, he just sat on the dalton and took shots at random tanks underneath as we blazed past them.
Liberator is heinous to fly upside-down so this can only be done at high altitude... it was quite common to have bait liberators in beta that did this with shredders very successfully.
The liberator did a quite well-known strategy
That video is why i like you guys, ie. Lvlcap RivlxFactor Matimio and the so. You have skill, you share and you show honor bye acknowledging an enemies skill.
thumbs up!
That happened to me too, TR lib pilots are probably the best out of the 3. He too me out with his lib canon while he was sideways.
I like how nearly all lvl caps comments start with "Hey lvl cap" Lmao
Like how he's like, "Your next liberator." Then BOOM. LOL.
"HAXXXX HACKER BAN HIM BAN HIM (insert the word fuck in there about 10 times)"
Planetside vids are the best! I am getting planetside only because of your vids! Thanks for thr great vids!
More planetside 2 tips and tricks LvlCap!
The problem is that before planetside 2 was released all guys say, "You dont need a new CPU for Game XY" Your CPU is good enough for all games, because the GPU is always limiting. And now the other way round, and the most people that have a older one CPU can not update without changing mainboard. This is the through, and a little bit depressing. The game market was a long time GPU limited and this game change it, because of bad optimization and old CPUs. I have also a Phenom II X4 945 -> 20 fps
Be cool to see lvl cap and somebody else using this tactic.
This why when I go Lib hunting in my ESF it's with A2A missiles and I keep my distance. Only been belly gunned once and that was shortly after launch. Learned my lesson real fast.
You need to equip the Nightvision certification onto your vehicles/characters weapon and activate it by holding the right mouse button.
Someone give that Pilot a medal!!!! T_T. That's sturdy wings moment in PS2. Simply awesome.
Me and my mate actually do this all the time to annoying vanu scythes! Awesome to see the pawnage from the other end though!
I took out a jet with the gunship's canon. Yeah, i was fricking paralysed from the awesomeness for about 15 minutes
Levelcap, you should make a play of the day series. It would be nice....
I once did that with a lib twice in one life. luckiest moment of my Planetside 2 gaming experience yet. The pilot then invited me to his outfit. lol
Stealth 4 and high speed racer airframe. U do 265-272 kph with the airframe and with lil' micro burts on the afterburner, it is almost impossible to hit your esf with that dalton. Coyotes obscure the gunner's view with fire, further complicating the shot the shot. I make it a point to attack libs first even with enemy esf present. Also the stealth 4 forces the lib to actually hand spot u. The respot you frequently. Muhuhaha.
But it isn't what his channel is all about. Levelcap makes videos about 'tactical shooters', which includes Planetside 2. He addressed that issue in a previous video about Black Ops 2, which I personally do not enjoy, but I love Planetside 2. Watch what you like and skip the videos you don't like.
you have to go to the weapon's attatchments that u bought the nightvision for. after u have done that, simply right click when flying and it switches to nv.
It takes practice, practice, practice. I am a pretty decent BF3 pilot. I currently suck at PS2 Scythes. I used to really suck at it but now only moderately suck. It is slowly improving.
Everyone has good Lib pilots. Us NC rarely get to show ours off due to never having air superiority unless a big outfit like devildogs is running an op.
Two ways (One hard. One not so hard.) First flying backwards from under the lib to get on its front side. Second if you initiate the fight (which you probably will considering your'e in an esf) Fly as high as you can and use your rotary with a bit of zoom to punish the lib. Eventually it will have to go in for a landing. At that point just rocket it to hell.
I like your way how you make your videos. Keep going like that.
the only way to kill levelcap in a scythe awesome liberator skills
come on levelcap enough planetside 2 videos, you need to make more bf3 videos that what your channel is all about!
November 2012? Now I understand why this shot is supposed to be surprising.
My friend is an amazing gunner, he gets ESFs all the time with the Dalton.
Tactical Superiority strikes again! Ok fine, I'm just proud of my fellow TR
I love the introduction.
if you are able to stay above the liberator where it has no guns you can take it out somewhat easily
click the box with 4 boxes in it to the right of the weapon and select which feature you are trying to modify. in this case- optics (if i recall right! ;) ) then, click which sights you want to add on. This whole mess of a procedure isnt too intuitive, and the devs have stated they want to clean it up. We'll see.
This guy is from my outfit and we do this kinda stuff all the time. It's hilarious when the fighter thinks he's got you and then he takes a dalton to the face.
Dude thats awesome that you posted this. I like that your ego doesn't get in the way of great video. :D
I did that to a fighter that swooped under our lib the other day. Highlight of my play session.
Great short vid. Waiting for more PS2 stuff.
One time, I took out an entire tank column with the liberator. I then proceeded to destroy a scythe.
every faction has it's own UI the VS has the health and all other stuff around the crosshair the TR has it to the right side under and the NC has it in the middle
well thats just pretty common stuff i do with my gunner, but always fun to see one shoting esf s
It depends on what server you are. NC on Waterson is beginning to evolve, I took out a liberator with my C750 i think it's called, so I guess the NC are catching up.
Nice to see some sportsmanship on the internet lol.
Awesome. Nice to see a lib pilot not flying like a cow. Too bad it looked like he was TR. Would be nice to have him on Vanu haha.
OH more videos of amazing things like this! Cool techniques you or enemies do!
thats what he says, in his previous comment he said that tr has some of the best lib pilots of the 3, in in his second comment he says they have some of the best pilots, with ''they'' referring to the tr
planetside looks like an awesome game
Oh for a minute I actually thought it was one guy that switched seats at that made it that much more awesome.. even though it probably was a 2 man team it was pretty cool.
You do realize the most famous pilot of all time, Manfred von Richthofen aka "The Red Baron", was a pilot in WW1 right? Dogfighting was invented in those planes. For an interesting and semi-accurate depiction, watch the movie Flyboys.
Yeah that's what I've been thinking. Halo + Battlefield + MMO = Planetside 2
Hahaha, thats what I like about you. You're not all "check out my XX killstreak", you're about showing the cool gameplay even if it wasn't you to get the kill.
Excellent Lib pilot, my lib team does the same when ESFs get too friendly )
I like play of the day. more please!
I was waiting for the noob to jump out "UMADBROYOLO?"
You probably could have avoided that death by afterburning into a better position once you realized the gunner was aiming for you. Then again, if the gunner was really good, and you were still within range of the gun, you still might have died.
Haha, that was me ;)! Great job levelcap, been an honor. Took me awhile to practise it though :).
Doubt it. Aircraft have a tendency to suddenly nosedive if you leave the pilot seat.
"It was a honor to kill you!" Gentleman behavior like in the airbattle in WWI.^^
