This trailer is actually a very accurate gameplay representation.
It doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter if you're able to 1v30 an live, it doesn't matter if you have an above 10kd, it doesn't matter how many million times better than him you are: the invisible-one-hit-man will cheese you with his 1hit knife or bolt as soon as you stand still for a split second.
Listen, the knife is so janky, it's barely useable when wielded. So if you die to it, 99% of the time you deserve it.
Commissioners and crossbows, though, are a different story entirely

leon galanidis i will always be NC but a lot of the time you really got to pay attention to the color when fighting the VS because it is hard to tell the difference sometimes and i rarely kill a teammate by accident but when i do i revive them a heal them right after because my favorite class is the medic but there should be no excuse when fighting the TR because its easy to tell the difference between red and blue

VS has the best carbine in the game though.

The game is downright amazing.

amazing that ten years later we still can only get this experience in planetside.
@@greymatter5492 if you ignore planes, FPS, and ability to have fun and not drive a truck for hours on end, or not having to wait for 15 minutes just to get into fight, die in two shots from someone you couldn't see who had been sitting in a trench for the past hour just waiting, then travel another 15 minutes to get back to the fight, sure.

iseeu1980 I know it's a TR perspective and its kinda playing an entire map. The battle wil stary and it will go all the way to the end of someone conquering the continent. I think it will be 30mins or so. If they go into detail and make actual characters, it could be a feature film ;)
Things that are wrong here.
1. Kills took just 1-3 rounds instead of at least ten.
2. None of those TR or NC had shields.
3. He ran through several MAXs and they all ignored him.
4. Hitched a ride on a passing Reaver instead of being roadkilled.
5. Downed an entire Galaxy by just shooting into the cockpit.
6. Survived a freefall from a crashing Galaxy without the momentum killing him.
7. Vanu Infiltrator managed to one hit kill with a knife while still cloaked.
8. And that giant Vanu zerg at the end managed to move in perfect formation without running around like chickens, ramming their Scythes into Magriders, or just generally teamkilling.
If only the game were actually like this trailer.

The Vanu soldiers were actually the most inteligent nation here... They waited to join in the middle of the battle, when the NC and TR lost 1/2 of their army... Then they will win :)
It's now 2021 and I've been playing solid since 2012. This game is STILL my go to FPS shooter. Nothing like it on the market still almost 10 years on. I never played a game so much in my life compared to this game. All the other shooters are childs-play compared to PS2.
If PlanetSide 3 is coming, I hope it will be for PC, consoles and cross play. Keep the same server numbers and you will STILL be king of the MMOFPS genre. Battlefield 2042 is coming out and needs bots just to have 128 "players". Are you kidding me? One fight in a biolab can have 200+ players in just one small section of a contentment.
The team behind PS2 have been through hell and back and this game is only getting STRONGER. How many games have you seen last 9+ years and get better? Only the elite.

It would be cool if they made an HBO series that models this about three separate protagonists from each faction. They could show the Hipocracy of both sides, the meaninglessness of war, and the horrible truth of combat like that shown in the trailer. They could show the metamorphoses of all these characters as they go from eager youths to hardened veterans. Sort of like the series the Pacific, I would pay to see that, in-fact I already sort of started my own little crappy screenplay because I was so hyped about the idea. maybe someday.

9 yrs later and the game still feels like this at its peak moments
Heck yea. I just had an experience like this at Roothouse Distillery last week on Emerald. Last 3 minutes of the alert and capture of the base was going to decide the winner for the alert between all 3 factions. I saw countless valk and galaxy drops along with spawn beacons from all three sides. Multiple bubble shields and pocket orbitals were dropped. The entire map population was fighting over that base, and a massive vehicle fight was happening outside the base.

Been playing this off and on since Corona Virus lockdowns. Such a fun game hope there is a Planetside 3 some day.
It sounds more and more like they just plan on upgrading the engine and then the graphics instead of making a 3 all together. But I agree, I hope they keep adding

You can actually, but with 4 drops of C4 and never seen a person actually getting somehow high up in the air, and blowing up a Galaxy with C4
@@NikGlt actualy I did quite a few time. What I usually do to kill a galaxy in a single run. What I do is if the galaxy is hurt enough, I unload all my rockets and a mag of the nose gun, then as I come close to it, initiate rotation right and jump. This will make my character go up as well as forward, this is where I either pull C4 or most of the time a rocket launcher and shoot when I am at the highest point. Once i am done I turn around and re enter the aircraft on my way down.

Riding on top of a Galaxy in a Lightning while hundreds of kilometers in the air sniping ESFs is actually a legitimate stratagy.
The company shared a recording of someone doing it once.
There is also a screencapped of someone operating a Vanguard inside ta Biolab, which people thought was impossible...

Drifter + shotgun = Lots of rage tells. Hop into VR and learn how to drift with your drifters, seriously it is like drifting a car kinda.

Bulletproof glass would make it front heavy. This is why even helicopters today don't have bulletproof glass :D

The ending actually reminds me of the times in years past when I ran with smaller VS outfits that worked with other, larger outfits. We actually were coordinated, and at peak hours, could roll the NC and TR with ease. I miss those days.
that's actually what nc platoons don't understand, they are fighting each one on their proper side, the effect of number isn't good enough to win against super coordinated inter platoon vs or tr
I remember a guy who played with the french team on the vanu side. These guys were crazy and organised. Would go light infantry, drop kilometers away from the base, then fly with their "gliders" jetpacks and finally drop on the base and capture it before the zerg came. It worked three times until they failed not far from the dome.
Ahh. Now if only one light assault could actually take out a Galaxy like that.

Imagine if PlanetSide 2 had destructible environments similar to Battlefield. Think about the destruction for a minute now. Chaos huh? It just reminds me of when I was playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 with my friends and I was in the apache and got hit with a missle, spun out and crashed into a 2 story building but got out of the chopper a split second early before death and landed inside the building alive, and the wall I crashed into was destroyed. Only then to leave two tanks and a squad to advance on me, leaving me to defend myself until my squad of friends came, and we made it out alive. One of my favorite moments from Battlefield, that I wish I could do with destruction in PlanetSide 2.

The Science Institute named this planet Auraxis. Taking a keen interest in this aberration, the Republic quickly sent expeditions through the wormhole to explore and colonize the planet. Shortly after arriving, the colonists discovered the remains and technology of a lost and ancient alien species - the Vanu (or Ancients). This technology proved to be so complex and powerful as to barely be conceivable to human minds, involving levels of energy previously thought to be physically unquantifiable. This allowed for the quick colonization of the ten continents of Auraxis, the creation of power sources and vehicles for the use of the colonists and, most importantly, it facilitated the development of rebirthing technology. This nanotechnology allowed the Terrans to deconstruct and reconstruct their own bodies, allowing fast transportation across the world. Later on, it was discovered that dead workers could be brought back to life using the technology, revealing a startling new possibility: immortality. Needless to say, the incredible power (and value) of this technology was systemically acknowledged, and despite the scale of the advances made due to the study of the technology, it was also recognized that humanity had not yet even scratched the surface of any future possibilities. Later on, the discovery that the planet itself had been an artificial construction of the Ancients further served to solidify the realization that, if left unchecked, Vanu technology would forever and irrevocably change humanity and its future.
Shortly after the rebirthing technology was discovered, the wormhole collapsed, cutting the colony off from the Mother Republic and preventing the return of Vanu technology for proper examination. The Republic authorities took measures to hide this fact, while desperately exhausting all theoretical options for re-establishing the traversability of the wormhole. Meanwhile, as widespread usage of the technology grew, the Republic began to fear the potential repercussions of allowing so much power to be shifted so quickly into the hands of so many people. Namely, it feared that the rebirthing technology and the potential impunity to death, disease, and pain it afforded would cause massive philosophical shifts amongst the isolated population, thus pulling out one leg of the tripod that had sustained the Republic for a millennium: that of deterrence. More generally, the military feared that if utilization of the technology continued to spread, that the other two bases might come away as well: a populace armed with practically god-like power would have very little need of a strong authoritarian body to provide structure and purpose to their lives. Based on these trepidations, the Republic began to restrict usage of the new technologies, and halted all further research and development involving the Ancient Tech.
It was too late, however, and their concerns began to materialize earlier than they had expected. As research diminished, so too did hopes of reopening the wormhole. As news of this began to escape the scientific community, general dissension set in. Amongst the populace, a great resultant of the loss of faith in the capability of the Republic (which had always presented itself as infallible) was a split in their loyalties. Two distinct groups emerged: the loyalists and the separatists. The separatists argued that the recent behavior of the Republic was full of obvious knee-jerk moves and over-reactive mistakes. Claiming that the Republic knew its end was at hand, the separatists advocated breaking away and forming a new society, now that their would-be "oppressors" were isolated and without aid. The loyalists countered that the Republic had never been abusive (a claim hotly debated) and had always looked out for its own, and that the Terran people at least owed them continued loyalty on that point alone. Meanwhile, in the intellectual circles and among the scientific establishment, there had long been the feeling that the Republic was ill at-ease with the possibilities of the New Science, and a movement had begun to sequester and conceal as many of the Vanu artifacts as could be feasibly obtained without overt notice.
As the Terran demographic continued to polarize, these movements finally came to fruition as the predecessors of the Vanu Sovereignty made their exodus and took with them the research and artifacts they had managed to stockpile over the Auraxian years. Encouraged by this, the separatists seceded, seizing a number of military stockpiles and procuring a small arsenal of military assets: they called themselves the New Conglomerate. In a backlash to this, the Republic declared these two factions outlawed, announcing their intentions to reunify with them at all costs. Shortly after this, war broke out between the Terran Republic and the New Conglomerate. Not long after, the Vanu Sovereignty was attacked by the New Conglomerate and dragged into the war.
This is actually very fitting. Just think about it, the 'hero' here kills about a hundred enemy soldiers, a bunch of carry dropships, and places a beacon for his reinforcements to drop in. Get's killed by a single knife thrust into his stomach. It shows that even the best and toughest of players can still get killed. . . . . . Also I can't help to think that at there end there what the chat would look like in that particular scene: "Noob, you had to cloak just to kill me!" Enemy: "You're the noob for looking up at the sky like that for so long. Next time check your surroundings, noob!" 'Hero': "Lol, when I respawn, I'm gonna kill you!" XD

Sadly, shortly after this recording, that NC soldier was banned for the following: Triple jumpjet fuel capacity, one-hit-kill hack, infinite magazine size, and a nasty little hack that allowed him to shoot pilots, drivers, and passengers out of vehicles.
what, you didn't think the game would let a carbine shoot through galaxies, did you? and even with an ammo belt that soldier wouldn't be able to carry enough bullets to kill that many people without a resupply. nor would one grenade kill a heavy tank.
dont forget extra forced passenger hack allowing him to hitch rides with mates esfs

I come here now at the end of the candle light for this amazing game. long have I played and enjoyed, and I will continue to enjoy it and its memory for as long as I can, however, it is a fading light of the once great masterpiece.

Well with Vanu, I hate how you can never distinguish players. I can't tell the medics from engineers from light assaults from heavies. They're all wearing their porno spandex outfits from the night before.

well the Vanu Infiltrator's just look badass also GunFuMaster it's pretty difficult, medics have the cross, heavy's are bigger, light assaults have jetpacks and engineers are usually hiding behind a turret or driving. that's pretty much the only way. besides minimap spotting to tell if they're an assault or not.

Not much certs yet, but certainly the most entertaining gameplay I had so far. It's so ridiculous when everyone is running around unable to see you a meter away in front of them :D
Trailer seems to show how fights normally work out... NC comes banging on TR's door and kicks TR's ass, TR stop them at the next outpost, but then SUDDENLY, FUCKING VANU and EVERYONE gets some pain.

I’m aware how old this is, it’s still great, and for those who are new to planetside 2 and don’t know a faction to pick, here’s a simple guide.
TR: (my personal favorite actually) Bullet hose. Being fully automatic to the point of miniguns if various sizes are given to normal infantry and not just MAX suits. Rate of fire and being the zerg is what we do. Recommend first purchase is either the c4 for the light assault or a sky guard for the lightning tank. VS and NC love their fighters.
NC: kinda like TR as far as being human technology still but they focus more on having bigger bang for the buck. Typically takes less bullets to kill someone as opposed to TR guns but they are known for team killing. First thing to save up for honestly is the reaver shotgun because it’s an anti-everything gun.
VS: everything is plasma. And when it’s not plasma, it’s a crossbow or a knife. A number of plasma weapons has splash so the enemy cover doesn’t exactly mean much, especially with the MAX suits. A VS player can comment on this to say exactly which it is but there’s a carbine for the infiltrator that’s amazing (I’ve died countless times to it at long range and fast rate of fire) and also there’s a type of gun for the max that has a large area of splash and is fully auto, it’s great for clearing building or hallways.
My explanations and recommendations are based of my experience over the years and of course everyone plays differently. Sure there are probably/definitely better things to buy first but these are just a couple of goals that might be fun to use in combat. Hopefully this helps and good hunting out there.

Back in 2012, without knowing anything about the game or PS1 whatsoever, I thought the three factions in the cinematic were vastly different, much more so than they actually are. I thought NC are guerilla-style infantry, bare-bone equipment and little use for heavy armour. TR are the heavy guys, armour and firepower above all. And the Vanu, well, I thought their superior tech-savviness got them the only cloaking devices in the game.
I picked NC because that guy there looked badass.
Yesterday I went back to PS2, made a TR and immediately regretted my decision from three years ago.

I wish ppl would be able to stay on top of vehicles... not air but at least ground vehicles like tanks and stuff... it could be awesome just to go with 5 friends over a Vanguard (3 on top) without spending resources on a sundy...

Fun fact, this is a scene of the lore when the Endless War begins. Basically TR believes that they destroyed VS that were in the ARC 10 years before this trailer, but they were hiding and then they show up with a crushing force that literally makes TR and NC retreat to like, territory the size of a Warpgate. This is canon, this is how the Endless War began.

This looks like a GREAT game! I wish planetside 2 would implement some of those ideas...
e.g. shooting a pilot of a vehicle through the cockpit, grenade into tank interior, wallrunning, holding to things to climb/ride, staying on a moving vehicle/aircraft, etc. etc. etc.
This video should be renamed Titanfall Trailer, cause those concepts are implemented in _that_ game, not in PS2. -.-
30 seconds seems a bit exhaustive. A period similar to overcharging the generators would be cool.
Sniper: yeah. That's true. Although I still think it would be cool to implement this for planes. They have glass cockpits after all and it would be a punishment for cocky rocketpod-spammers.
I would love to see this level of realism in Planetside 2, for vehicle drivers/pilots being taken out though there should be something like a bullet velocity / piercing mechanic designed to make sure only certain weapons could pierce the armor of vehicles and only at very close (almost pointblank) ranges. I did like the level of realism of a game that had the mechanic of passenger damage, which was WWII Online Battlefield Europe, but that game is very dated unfortunately, but i would like to see those detailed mechanics in more MMOFPS'.

Aaronspark7 Well here is a pay 2 win thing right here (Base building) it costs 1000Certs or like 100SC to unlock 1 piece so you ether have to be rank 100 and have thousands of certs on hand or you have to spend real money.

One thing I didn't learn when I first saw this video...I saw the jump packs and thought 'Hell yeah, I can fly in this game!' so I became a Light Assault main. No one in my outfit jumps like I do and few can roll knife or carbine as effectively. I saw the NC going ham and thought 'That is awesome, they have Space Murica!' and joined them.
But the one, most important thing I didn't take away from this video so many years ago...
