Have seen at first tru arcade version, was not able to play genesis port. My eyes, what do they did to such excellent game? Genesis hw could cope with almost same animation and sprites quality as in arcade version, but programmers and artists who ported this game did bad job
I must agree that Genesis's Chelnov is far superior than Arcades' version. What is strange is the fact there is a port to Saturn faithul to the Arcade that was finished but not released. I think it's because it is worse than its 16 bit counterpart :)
For those who don't know, SNK released an amazing compilation of their older arcade games, many that used rotary joysticks, and they completely transformed how we can play them at home by converting them to proper twin stick shooters... I would LOVE to see Data East do this with something like Midnight Resistance, for example. Who's with me? Would work brilliantly as a twin stick.
And i quote "I bought the arcade controls for my cabinet, but i still haven't fitted them yet".... Love it so much. hahahahahahahaha. Awesome.Gotta show that love OSG.
There were some arcade games I really wanted to see on the megadrive. Rodland Pang Space Harrier Alien Syndrome Quartet Escape from the planet of the robot monsters All of which I reckon could be pretty much perfect conversions
In hindsight, that's all it needed to be at the time... And it did it's job fairly well, I'd say. Also a friendly reminder that it is 2021 and the (real) console wars have been long dead.
Excellent video mate! Shame that Snow Bros. never got a western release on the Mega Drive. I loved Forgotten Worlds on the Mega Drive back in the day, that was a decent port.

I'll defo get it done this week mate and I think I've secured a group of friends to get me down to Leeds in march too...I sold it to them as a boys night out...little do they know that I'm gonna ditch them once im down there for some crappy old games as they call them lol
Awesome list and channel mate, subscribed! Played Golden Axe so much on the Mega Drive I just can´t play the arcade version any more. There is something I find really appealing with the MD graphics vs SNES with regards to G&G and just in general. They have a more gritty look/feel, less childlike in general. No idea why, maybe its the limited pallet or just the general art direction/console limitations. Not saying the MD games are better, but I just prefer the overall look of the Master System and Mega Drive vs the Nintendo offerings.

Yeah I love midnight resistance mate it's a class game with some great arcade memories for me. It was in this little shop near my school where you went through the shop to the back room where there were about 10 arcades...spent many a school day in there...while my parents thought I was in lessons lol
Some great games here, especially Ghouls 'N'Ghosts, Golden Axe, and the grand mackdaddy, Strider! Surprised that Afterburner isn't here, the graphics might be a little cut back, but otherwise, it's great on the Megadrive! Also Super Monaco GP and Super Hang On, SMGP has cut back graphics like Afterburner but has a tournament mode, as does SHO, which is otherwise extremely close to the arcade.
Good video. But there are many good arcade ports missing. Paperboy, outrun, hang on, sunset raiders, pit fighter, street fighter and mortal kombat, Monaco GP, etc
What about Flicky? I just discovered it in the last few years via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, but it's an excellent port of an excellent arcade classic i somehow missed as a kid (born in 76).

I wanted to ask, I’m racking my brain to remember the name of an old arcade game, probably from around mid to late 80s... you were positioned on a castle wall on the right side of the screen, the castle wall was vertical on the far right side, and you had to shoot at an oncoming slow moving army or orcs (I think) that had futuristic weapons (missles/guns) - and you had to protect the castle wall and shoot at the attacking army. Can you recall this game at all?? Kind thanks!

Pit-Fighter, better than arcade version Street Fighter 2 SCE, only 16-bit port to include all combos from arcade Super Off Road, great conversion TMNT Hyperstone Heist, another good one. Flicky, Arcade Perfect New Zealand story, test location levels, great port Rainbow Islands Extra, Super Hang on, was also decent.
Oh I love altered beast I still it. Always love how Sega borrowed sound effects from movies. Altered beast werewolf that's American Werewolf London; no question about it. Golden Axe borrows from Rambo first blood.
I thought Darwin 4081 was a great arcade conversion of Darwin 4078, I got it from an import store back in the day, In retrospect I should have picked Gaiares as I had them both in my hand in the store.
hey OSG, here's one for you...... why don't you do a comparison video between psygnosis games on the amiga Vs the mega drive? debating the differences in graphics, sound, playability and overall value for the systems? or any other software houses.... that would be an interesting show :D
Talmit's Adventure AKA Marvel Land was another great game that was better on the Genesis. There was some great BGM especially in the rollercoaster stages.
I had a Mega Drive at the same time as my Amiga 500, I think around early 90s, I think Strider had amazing background scenery, I really loved Strider... I'm sorry buy I really hated Altered Beast, to this day, I can't stand it...
It was a pack-in with my Mega Drive. I remember vividly hating it when I first got it but after playing it repeatedly for days.....I thought I was just o.k. Yeah certainly not the best game ever made and far from all the praise it gets, but far from terrible in my eyes. However I can totally understand if you hate it.
I never understood the hype for Altered Beast. First time I played it back in the arcade I realised it was dogshit . Only thing it had going for it was the huge sprites.

Fatal fury 2 was a good port too, the gameplay is even better than the original
