Thanks so much for sharing. Sifu Gibson was one of my favorite instructors while I was in medical school in Tulsa. I have been blessed to be a student of some incredible teachers in the martial arts world, but I believe I learned the most under Terry Gibson. (I left Tulsa in 1988 so I don't recall if our paths ever met). My most vivid memories were when Guro Inosanto would visit the school, and watching the full force of Sifu Gibson's leg kick knowing that if it ever made contact with my leg it would have snapped in half! Getting whacked on the knuckles while knife sparring also sticks in my memory LOL I was so saddened to hear of his passing, but overjoyed to read that you baptized him! We live our lives not knowing when our last breath on earth will be, but it is good to know that our last breath on earth will be our first breath in heaven.
I bought his vhs series in '95 when I was between schools. I met my friend Terry Joven(from Bahala Na) in '98, and we traded tapes. We both enjoyed the material. I was kind of hoping those old Maphilindo tapes were up on TH-cam. Oh, and in one of the videos, I remember your instructor showing a technique, "Harley won't like me for this, cause his hair is getting like mine..."
Very nice video. I didn't know Terry but I have several of his VHS tapes and I could tell he was a genuine nice guy. I met Cathy at a seminar in South Carolina. She helped me with a couple of techniques that I was struggling with. Most people at seminars don't do that for those they don't know. Thanks for sharing this Harley.
Terry was my uncle (Cathy is my dad's sister) I've been thinking about him a lot lately and decided to Google his name and came across this video. This was a great story.
