I recently purchased an 05 legacy GT wagon with the 2.5T, not a B or E tune but its still fun to drive with 250hp on tap. Gonna put some mild mods on it an call it a day as it already runs good an is fun to bomb around in.
Loved the video! I love my 2001! On the steering, you say you don't like the lightness and that you wished they used the Impreza rack.. did you know that its light because of an electronic assist motor? I have learned that if you unplug the connector for the motor, it makes it heavier like the Impreza!!
That is really cool about the steering. The Forester SF5 has the same steering feel too... then I drove the SG5 model (2002) and it was heavier. Perhaps the BP5 Legacy will have the same heavier rack.
Okay any help would be greatly appreciated... My 2000 Subaru Legacy GTB (JDM) is having an idling problem in neutral. It cannot maintain ~1000RPM in neutral. There are no performance issues but it will stall if left in neutral for long enough because the rpm gauge will drop and rise from 1000 until it eventually dies. Would this be from the O2 sensor? Thanks
maybe the mass air flow sensor? Mine had a simmilar problem. when rolling to a stop light the idle wiggled around like crazy. I changed the MAF and got some new spark plugs, now it runs perfect. Your comment is 3 months old, so i guess you already figured it out :)
It depends a lot on the car. I think that wider or larger wheels are great for looks but in most cases, your car will become slower. If holding corners is more important than acceleration, wider tires are better but for a street car, looks is what causes people to run wide tires.
a lot of people still use their daily car for mountain pass runs though and so better corner holding is important, was just curious if slightly bigger tires actually do make much of a difference on these subaru's or not but i guess physics says yes lol, thanks for response and great channel.
I think that it makes a larger difference than people think. Keep to light weight wheels to minimize slow down. I see road cars with 265s or 285s and at that point, you are not gaining much performance.
While watching, I forgot what did I want to say. :-D I remember. Why didn't you try to do the self-diagnostics? It is really easy and would tell you the reason of "Check" light.
Is the legacy wagon a outback in japan? In usa we have outback and legacy, but this car has the same rear end as my 1999 outback, i like legacy to but they are a step up from outbacks here in usa, 2 different cars here in usa.
Restricting the exhaust can cause the O2 sensors to read differently and cause an engine light, but it would take a significant amount of back pressure to register. Like if the car is idling and you try to fully stop the exhaust with an object. An engine light is likely from old fuel causing a misfire or the need for a basic tune up. like a degraded vacuum line- pulling in non-metered air on idle. On newer cars like this, you'd check out the engine codes and it will provide pretty definitive diagnostics. ^.^
On my BH5 Rev C(This one is a rev D, but I'm pretty sure the o2 location is the same) the o2 sensor is on the headers right before the uppipe, so any exhaust modifications won't give you codes, you could run a screamer pipe off the turbo straight out hte hood without throwing codes.
i can tell u from experience i guess, that check engine light is just a shit sensor my mom had the ll bean version of this car and it went through 3 different sensors
Sadly no.. unless you want to wait forever and a half. But you could buy a legacy Wagon or Outback with a blown engine that was owned by a old grandma for $300. Option one, find a wrecker Legacy GT and steal all parts and transplant it to a usdm legacy and drive it back over or Pick up a jdm EJ20x out of a legacy GT, tranny, drif, wiring harness combo for $1700 shipped on ebay or your local jdm importer. $1k in interior and exterior parts, Bumper, taillights, Sti/Wrx Struts, breaks. basically find a wrx part-out and pick up what you will need. $700 For a wire harness merge if you don't feel like doing it yourself. For a little over $3k you got yourself a nice little Swaggon. It might not be a bad idea to respray the car so that's about $300-1k depending on if you do it yourself or pay someone. So in reality Like $4k> with AVCS and all those goodies. I believe you can use open source tuning as well or a usdm 04 Sti ecu with this setup. You will of course need a tune... Questions feel free to pm me. Also you can buy a Legacy Wagon at auction for pennies on the dollar. Like $300-500. Its quite amazing prices. you are going to spend roughly 2k to import it.
@@Mpompi315. They are i want to build one. if you can find a scraper on you could bring it over in peaces and do a swap. There aren't a crazy amount of people who have these E-Tune B5 Legacy GT turbo's. If you can find all the parts and have the wrench time it's worth it :) I'm planning on saving up on to build this over the summer. :)
I'm 18 and I drive one of these myself. The RHD isn't any problem for me, you get used to it quickly. Of course you have some draw backs when overtaking for example. Also you need money to fix these bastards, my head gasket blew up and with new piston rings and a new Exedy Stage one clutch I'm well over 3000€, not fixing it myself of course.
I personally have a rhd miata in Canada, its not too hard to drive. Left hand turns kinda suck a little but thats about it. Other than that its pretty easy, amazing to parallel park though cause you see the curb stupid easy
Ian Holmquist they all blow head gaskets depending on the life and maintanence of the motor. 2.5 is just more common because of the cylinder wall thickness being so thin compared to the 2.0 also these twin turbos are common for hot engine bays and head gasket and rocker cover issues. Related to the flaws in their design.
Wow, this car looks really good in white! Been thinking about a Legacy, they were avaible to some extent where i live so spare parts shouldnt be impossible. With stock exhaust, which car of a Stagea or Legacy you think you could drive comfortable long distances in 120km/h or more with low revs and low sound inside the car. I am partial to Nissan, but been opeing up my eyes to Subaru and Toyota. Nissan have tendencys to be high rev cars and driving long in higher speed is not nice then.
I own a bh5 in Canada, you can use pretty much any02 wrx parts and other years for other bits. Basically, you can get all the parts for this car, easy and cheap
The highest speed highways are 120km/h but there are plenty of fun mountain roads. With the stock exhaust setup, they are super quiet and nice at high speeds. I did a single turbo swap on mine and have a larger downpipe and exhaust so it's a louder than stock but still no drone on the highways.
I should also mention I used to drive it to work everyday in a different town that was 1.5 hours away so I've got plenty of experience highway driving in it(among many other trips)
they are nice cars for the price though twin turbo ej20 awd and if you buy one for 8k you can get them looking close to brand new and ive seen them as low as 8,000km
absolutely get-one-and-never-sell-again type of car
Privacy Or sell quick once something goes wrong, that engine isn't cheap to fix.
I fixed mine and I can confirm it was not cheap.

Hey man clean Legacy! Awesome car )
Nice to see another one of these it's been a while Derek
I managed to fit the face lift front end with a bit of cutting for lights and changing the plugs for the indicators
yess been waiting for you to upload one of these for a long time! importing one of these to Canada also in the next 2 to 3 weeks!
Too many kids for a legacy? Haha, oh my...
derek is a busy man ^^
haha
Someone should tell him how that happens..
man i love this wagon i own a 03 subaru legacy and am a big fan of these
I remember when you had a Legacy up almost every week!
I posted a pic on the FB page of a Blitzen wagon with a roof box a week or so ago. Looks good!

Thank you for the video. What about maintenance for tye twin turbo, any cons? You have hiiglighted the Pros
Sick Subi! Great Vid!
I always try and peak in the parking lot to see what else you have.
Would love to own one of these... Would be a great upgrade from my 2004 35th anniversary legacy
Nice condition for a 3.5, a good color and 5spd in a wagon is hard to find! I like the black version of the half leather seats! beauty find!
It's not a 3.5. It's a 2.0
@@ianholmquist8492 I think he meant the auction rating :)

Hey mate. Hopefully not too late to the party. Manual/Auto? IIRC neutral for most people is around 750-800rpm.
I will import this car some time in thr future :)
Why does it has a Subaru badge on the front grill instead of Legacy?
the steering is very speed sensitive it should firm up just past parking lot speed
hey man.great video as always. i had one question bud, can we import these auction cars to india? please reply....
Would be easier to get an importer direct from Japan.
Hey, is it advisable to change my Subaru BH5 twin turbo to a powerful one turbo
"I had too many kids so i had to get a mini van"
It’s got a very meaty exhaust note, but it is idling a little fast I think.
hi, what would the shipping be on this to the U.K? cheers
Dose anyone know where to get the tensioner kit for the jdm model?
I just found one of these on kijiji for just over $8000 and I want it so bad
is there much of a noticeable change in handling with 18" wheels and wider tires?

Is the auto worth a look? I found a great example, really low mileage just under 50k km but it's auto. Are the auto transmissions solid?
I had an auto for two years. It was great.
Is the legacy wagon a outback in japan? In usa we have outback and legacy, but this car has the same rear end as my 1999 outback, i like legacy to but they are a step up from outbacks here in usa, 2 different cars here in usa.
Outback is Lancaster in Japan
You have any outbacks right now ?
Must use highest octane possible!
Yes, though that is true with any turbocharged vehicle
Could the check engine light be from the exhuast?
Restricting the exhaust can cause the O2 sensors to read differently and cause an engine light, but it would take a significant amount of back pressure to register. Like if the car is idling and you try to fully stop the exhaust with an object.

What do you think about the Legacy generation after this one?
The next gen is quite similar to this one. It looks more modern but once you get in and start driving it feels almost the same.
How much is this, or did it go for? And costs landed?
probably around $5500-$6500 CAD
What ever happened to your Derek? I remember it not getting a bid at USS but no news after that.
My Legacy sold the next week. I posted a video of it but plenty of people did not see that video.
i can tell u from experience i guess, that check engine light is just a shit sensor my mom had the ll bean version of this car and it went through 3 different sensors
Nick Herrera thats a fact bro, my dad got same da LL bean joint. It gonna go for ever
