    For the blisters--leukotape or even just regular medical tape work wonders! Plus now that you know exactly where they'll form, it is always worth taping the areas before setting out in the first place...

    Hey! I’m proud of you.That’s not an easy feat (pun!). Also, as a marginal distance runner and past Marine, I can 100% validate your badassery. Feet management (and pain perseverance) is a top priority and severely underestimated limitation to success in endurance endeavors. Also as a greater Boston area resident, there’s not a very inviting path between those two statehouses. So, again, kudos on your commitment to completing this challenge. Here’s a random question I’m not going to look up, but maybe someone else could chime in. Are those the two nearest statehouses to one another? Keep on walking for all of us!

    nice! This might be the only documentation online of anyone walking between Boston and Providence. Thinking about doing this myself (in reverse).

    Having walked nearly 5 hours from St. George to Tottenville in Staten Island, can confirm that this is an event. Congrats for doing it in two sittings! Breaks are needed (I didn't take any) for that long of a journey. Now you can brag about this to everyone you know! 🙂

    What a great little adventure…you walked right past my house. Did you go to a hotel after reaching your destination or did you go back to Boston on the train?

      I had plans in Boston that night, so I took a train back and didn't get much time in Providence, unfortunately.

      How are the trails? Is there a safe network to cycle if I ever want to do this?

    • @ewannnawe
      @ewannnawe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The trails were great! I think there were a few larger roads leaving Boston that it wouldn't hurt to find an alternate route for, but other than that, it's a fairly safe route for cycling.

    You could totally split these trips up into multi-episode series, and I appreciate that you don't, but maybe that would improve your odds with the algorithm.

    • @ewannnawe
      @ewannnawe  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good point. I have a few ideas for future videos that I may need to split up into two parts, but I like keeping it to one part if I can, for simplicity's sake.

    Considering the historical popularity of the area, do you ever think of what it was like for early Americans to do this? Like, it must have been some that happened more regularly. What other people shared your route? How fun!

      @Capecodham ปีที่แล้ว

      Gotta, this guy walks 55 miles and you are too lazy to type got to. Don’t write words you speak. as in gonna, wanna. People using slang expressions never think they’re making it harder for someone who doesn’t have English as a first language to read. Gonna, gotta, wanna, outta, and kinda all represent words as they are pronounced in informal, spoken English. They should not be used in formal writing.

    What a great video! I've made the trek over much of that same ground from Boston as far as Walpole (is the horse farm a mile or so from Walpole Center still there, I wonder?) a half-dozen times or so. (There is/was an MBTA bus back to Forest Hills and the Orange Line that leaves/left from in front of the police headquarters that took me back home the same day) In the England of the Eighteenth and early Nineteenth centuries, there was a great craze for city-to-city hikes (sometimes for pleasure, sometimes of necessity); James Boswell, Dr, Johnson's famous biographer came to London from Edinburgh as a young man on foot. You (and to a lesser degree I) follow in a great tradition.

    Piece of advice for blisters. Cut a semicircular hole in the middle of the blister bandage so its shaped like a donut instead of a solid circle. This allows the blister to breathe and heal faster. Also wear thick socks! Hope that helps.

    1:04 Going through Seekonk rather than Pawtucket was a major strategic error. It is not “safer”, and “scenic” is rather nebulous and arbitrary. Pawtucket is significantly more pedestrian-friendly, as it is a city with narrow streets, slower vehicular speeds, and consistent sidewalks. Seekonk is a sprawling suburb with less consistent sidewalks, and thus more dangerous to walk through, as, I’m sure you’d know, a lack of sidewalks and high vehicular speeds are by far the most dangerous part of a trip like this. Not only are Pawtucket and North Providence more pedestrian-friendly, but they’re also a full 44 minutes shorter on foot. Considering the excruciating foot pain you were in, I’m sure you would’ve appreciated 44 minutes less of walking to get to the same location, in a safer environment for pedestrians. I am completely confused as to why you labeled the Seekonk route as “safer.” Do you care to explain your methodology further?

    • @ewannnawe
      @ewannnawe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Happy to explain! I figured someone would ask lol. The safer part was just briefly illustrated at 1:00 to explain why I didn't take any of the routes that were up to 10 miles shorter at 0:58 (those routes each had sections without sidewalks that felt unnecessarily dangerous). I described the route through East Providence as scenic because I figured I would get nicer footage walking along Central Pond and then walking through the center of Providence rather than cutting through Pawtucket. Hope that clears it up!

    I'll be off on my vacation in a couple of days. I've already packed some blister bandages, but after watching this, I'm going to toss another package into my suitcase! (Hope your feet are recovering.)

    • @ewannnawe

      Thanks! Still have one of the two blisters lol.

  • @englishguyoutdoors

    Great job, really enjoyed the video, you walked past my neck of the woods. I've already done Dedham to Boston (catching the commuter rail back). I've never thought of walking from Boston to Providence -that's impressive!
    For blisters I've found Kinesio tape has worked best for me, better than moleskin, but to each their own (I tend to get blisters on the ball of my foot, so it may be more where you are liable to get them as to what you use as well). My brother -in the UK -swears by Compeed as well. I'll also give a shout out to Darn Tough socks -I found they made the biggest difference in getting blisters or not, expensive but worth it!
    Thanks again! Two huge thumbs up :)

    Do you listen to music while walking? Meditate on life? Think about what you're going to order for lunch / dinner?
    [I also like the dinosaur hat!]

    • @Harmonikdiskorde
      @Harmonikdiskorde ปีที่แล้ว

      In college I walked from campus to South Attleboro Amtrak station and took that back, which is a tiny portion of this trek; I'd love to attempt this, maybe at a more leisurely pace and with better socks / blister prevention.
      How often do you take breaks to pee or reapply sunscreen? What do you carry with you? Are there times when you worry for your safety? What do you look at when plotting a safe route?

    • @ewannnawe
      @ewannnawe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I usually take the opportunity to discover new music along the way. I’m incredibly irresponsible with my sunscreen usage, but for bathroom breaks, hotels and community centers are my best friends. I usually just pack enough clothes to get me by, a few portable chargers, and my toiletries.
      There have been very few, if any times I’ve been genuinely concerned about my safety on these trips. Though, that could just be blind confidence. For plotting a safe route, I’ve found Strava is a lot better than Google Maps. I would recommend checking your route on Streetview before heading out. Sidewalks or pedestrian pathways are of course preferable, but usually as long as there looks to be enough clearance along the side of the road or if a road is small enough that the occasional car wont matter then I’m usually fine with walking along it, but that’s just me.
