Thaks a lot for that great tutorial! For everyone who has the newer RG877CX9 model, the glass diameter now is 29.5mm, not 30.0mm anymore! The thickness is 2.0mm not like 1.5mm as with the initail model. Other differences are the remarkably less legible silver hands and weaker lume. It has a smaller movement, a VJ32.
Thanks so much for this. I read the comment too late and got the original size in the video, and it didn't fit! Especially with the plastic ring, it's a tight squeeze.
@@bobbinite that is what happened to me too 😞. If you haven't lost your motivation and still have some spare money you could take a look at the lumibrite version of the watch -> you can buy a RXF41AX7 watch for around 45US$ (rubycon watches UK) and use the 30.0mm saphire crystal there. I have this RXF41AX7 with push on back and can confirm it has a 30.0/1.5mm crystal. I don't know if the newer screw-down back version RJ655AX9 has the same diameter of crystal. Can anyone comment this? However for my titanium Lorus I have ordered a 29.5/2.0mm double domed crystal. I'm not sure if 2.0mm is the better thickness than 1.5mm for this watch. I will leave a comment when it is done. Has someone swapped out the hands of a RG877CX9? They are 120 70 17 mm/100, minute and second around 12mm long, 12.5mm would be perfect. They should be dark and have lume. The hands on the first edition of this watch were perfect, to me the new ones are a huge downgrade.
a short update: the Mingswear 29.5 x 3.2 x 2.0mm sapphire crystal works perfectly with the RG877CX9. I've also ordered a 29.5x1.7x0.4mm gasket. This gasket is less transpararent (whiter) than the original one. It also sits less tight than the original one. Overall I'm very happy with it, only the bright hands need a darker replacement...
I reckon a man of your calibre should manage ok! 😉 maybe upgrade your spaghetti scametti? Oh, wait, that's got actual sapphire mined from a fine mineral mine in Tanzania. My bad.
Just had a new battery fitted to my lorus titanium field watch by a kiosk watch repair guy in Silverburn shopping centre Scotland for just under £10! Tested watch seal in a bath still waterproof! Great titanium field watch for under £50. Proof that money doesn't buy you class!!!!
Just did this with the stainless steel version of your watch. The crystal went in so easily and looks great. Thanks for the video and inspiration to do it! Update: Took mine out in the waves on holiday recently and it perfomed perfectly. Still as water resistant as it was before the sapphire mod. Brilliant!
Always enjoy all your videos especially the mod videos have you ever thought of maybe trying an an oil filled quartz mod I'm sure you would be just great at it with your skill level Thanks Mate
I got a Lorus in the post today, a PC32 diver watch in black titanium with orange markers and bezel numerals. Abs astonishing looking watch and I was expecting Hardlex but this one apparently has a bevelled sapphire same as the WRC VK63 Pulsar's. Paid a few quid for it and another Seiko family piece in the collection as its absolutely flawless and even had the plastic films on the glass, caseback and crown.
Thank you Dan, I absolutely love your mod videos mate. You inspire me to try doing something on my own. Keep up your amazing work. All the best always my dear friend.
Thank you Felo, these cheap watches are a joy to work on! When it works out, it's so satisfying, and if it doesn't, the financial loss isn't too bad. Take care Felo, and have a lovely weekend.
Nice mod to an already near perfect watch. I have been looking at a very similar Orient watch with a solar movement and wondering how easy a swap would be. My Lorus is 15 yrs old and the glass is well scratched. I may try this mod.
I got the Lorus chronograph RW617AX9 with analogue and digital readouts with many more functions for the same price at Argos. A bit more bulkier but a lot more interesting to look at...
You make it look sooo easy.. Lol.. Id be a nervous mess. Im thinking of buying a bunch of cheap watches and starting to mess with everything.. I mean I already have all the tools.. But dont have the nerve..
Hi... Love your reviews, i need to say that i have one big issue with most of the watch channels, there is no reviews for good quality quartz dive watches with accurate swiss movements.... Please try to find and review dive quartz watches from aliexpress... maybe ask steeldive or san martin to produce one (-: , thanks
Nice,I've got the £29 version with the full lumibright dial, could really do with sapphire on that as I wear it to work a lot🤔😂 great mod vid as usual 🙂👍
Great job, love the modding vids. These Lorus field watches really are awesome value for the price. I think Lorus have a few different models with similar design, but also within similar price range. I've been thinking of picking one of them up, the price is just so tempting for a 100m water resistant good looking field watch.
I've got an almost identical watch, the only difference being a day window and the entire dial lumed. I love this little guy, a worthy successor to my Timex expedition with only 50m WR. I never thought about replacing the crystal with sapphire until now. Thanks!
@@watchmewithwatches If I was to hazard a guess, I'd say yes. The more parts that are interchangeable reduces manufacturing costs. However, there's only one way to be sure.
Hello. I've just today bought the version with lumibrite dial and I think I might try this. Make it into a cool little watch. I have a question though, as you have taken it apart. How does the 100m water resistance work without a screw down? Is it actually that waterproof, in your estimation? Thanks
@@watchmewithwatches Haven't decided yet, just means, I have few to play around with, But Will let you know which One, I have decided on. Can you recommend, any Stores in Europe, That sell watch parts? 👍
Great mods Dan!!! I have the other Lorus field watch with the epic lumibrite but in stainless steel case. Would you mind to share the aliexpress link to the sapphire crystal? I'm prettu shure will fit his brother!! Thanks
I have this watch and to be honest havent been happy with the hands. I noticed your hand have lume. Mine dont . They look the same but just white paint inside of silver outline. There is slight lume on the face but nowhere near as bright as lumnibrght which i also have. Question. Did lorus change the spec on the titanium.
I am after a marker for my own Pulsar titanium, its an easy one either as the Pulsar has a chapter ring which the markers glue on to, do like my Pulsar's and Lorus (would that be Lorii?)
What is the thickness of that mineral crystal? 1.6mm? You wizzed through that part and I had to freeze frame it to see. So I assume crystals only come in 0.5mm increments? Does your sink below the bezel at all around the edges? Just asking as I'm looking to do this mod on this Titanium watch (the new green dialled version) and it would help not having to buy calipers as well. Thanks.

The lumibrite stainless steel version of this watch has the same crystal measurements. I just fitted a 30x2.7x1.5 mm sapphire crystal.

@@Ruffaloo No, didn't try it, but all the dimentions should be exactly the same on the Lumibrite.

Good mod Dan. I watched on my phone so I couldn’t see if there was a gasket for the crystal to seat in. Was it just sapphire against titanium?
Hi Chris. There is a gasket it there.
Why don't you oil fill it? Works well with any quartz watch and looks abs amazing.
Thats very tempting. Might give that a go, nice to show another unusual modification!
Hoping those watches come back in stock soon. Everyone locally is OOS 🙁
Keep hunting, they pop up often in H.Samuel and Amazon. I also saw one in an Independent Jewelers a week ago. It was £50 though.

I agree. I love this watch, and it's one of the few keepers in the collection.
In this instance Lorus is out-performing Seiko...
