Seems like it might be limited to less than 200GB. found this in the read me type file: ."Using Disk2vhd The Disk2vhd user interface lists the volumes present on the system. It will create one VHD for each disk on which selected volumes reside. It preserves the partitioning information of the disk, but only copies the data contents for volumes on the disk that are selected. This enables you to capture just system volumes and exclude data volumes, for example. Note: Virtual PC supports a maximum virtual disk size of 127GB. If you create a VHD from a larger disk, even if you only include data from a smaller volume, it will not be accessible from a Virtual PC VM. In addition Virtual PC doesn't support the Multiprocessor Specification, which means that it won't be able to boot VHD's from multiprocessor Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 systems. "
i love u dude,i kept trying to make a image system file and upload it to a virtual machine trying to system image restore from the troubleshooting windows and kept getting a lot of errors...didnt know things were actually this easy,u saved my ass
Also don't use an external USB drive either, I kept getting a "Error during copy: The parameter is incorrect" and it would blow up. Found the answer (Don't Use USB Drive) here: www.chicagotech.net/netforums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18989&start=0
Good Video - clear and concise. This is the first viable answer to 'how to move to an old PC to new hardware without a reinstall' that I have found. So a big thanks for the video. Just one question, what factors go into the choice between Gen 1 and Gen 2 options?
Hi, I have rare business program on older XP laptop and i want transfer it and use it on newer laptop with windows 7 OS installed. I lost installation setup CD of that business program, so how can i transfer and use that program from older to new laptop?
I want to dual boot linux and windows. But I want to be able to edit and view windows from Linux and any change I make stays there when I boot into windows and it's not virtual change. Anyway to do something like this? I know I can simply write to the Windows partition directly but I prefer a GUI Windows
Hi, Thank you so much for this video, it was almost exactly what i was looking for. However, I just have one more question, happens to the virtual disk and the corresponding virtual machine if I have 2 user accounts on my system?
this work with same pc but if you create virtual machine and transfer to other place like in server hyper v it's not work i try so many times. if there is any way then please make video and share with us
I have a gaming pc and a notebook for my brother, I can copy my gaming pc and put it in virtualbox and use it from the notebook? So my brother can use my gaming pc on it’s notebook
Just curious if the same option is available for a Mac? I've been trying to experiment with getting a Mac VM on Oracle but been unsuccessful. Of course I'd only want this to be able to learn troubleshooting for Mac devices. Just been curious on this.
Well pretty much worthless as a VM ... won't let me activate ... but I do like having the snapshot of my system to help recovery ... and a way to archive/backup files that can be mounted ...
i came acros your vid, but what i am wondering to know is: if i would be virtualizing my physical windows 10 install to virtual.. and use it in VM and enable insider in VM with that same windows install does it override my windows updates or what ever settings in my physical install which has insider disabled?
Is there a way to convert drives without a drive letter to a VHD. I'm attempting to make an image of an AndroidTV installation. Initial problem: Loaded the installation ISO into VirtualBox but some of the menu options were outside of the display boundaries. First solution: Install to a physical hard drive then convert that to a VHD. Current problem: Disk2VHD doesn't see the drive with AndroidTV on it.
Nifty. If I were to do this say from an Intel box to an AMD box, would there be problems with the AMD drivers, etc.? Or would I just need to update/install the AMD drivers on the host system onto the now virtualised system?
Since you mentioned intel I assume you mean AMD CPU rather than video card, in which case it doesn't matter. The virtual machine doesn't run on bare metal, it uses a virtual cpu. The drivers for that will be identical regardless of the host hardware. If you switch from one VM program to another (e.g. VMware to Vitrualbox, etc.) you may run into an issue, but that's unlikely.
I’m pretty new to VMs and i’d like to convert my native Win10 pc into one that runs what i currently have as a VM with Linux as my native OS. What would be an effective way of doing this? Would i need to throw the virtual drive onto an external one like a usb stick first, wipe my pc clean with a new Linux install and VM ware then import it back in? Or would the process be much simpler than that?
Hi Jake....Great tutorial. I wanna install the vhd..but my hard disk space is only 96.6GB. If your BIOS is UEFI than try using generation 2 in the VM setup.

Does anyone know how to do this without having to activate again
where is hyper-v manager?
hey Jake what's with the lack of school server videos??
There's probably nothing going wrong (or nothing that's worth recording).

if i make changes in the vm does it change the real windows too?
