    I appreciate the vid. I was considering doing this, however, this video helped me not to worry about darkening my fretboard. I'd prefer not to take that type of time and effort, while some may it's not for me. Thanks for putting it together!

      It’s not too bad if you just do the five min treatment while changing strings but it is a bit of a faff if you want to leave it on longer.

      It's not so much the time and effort, but for me the effect with this stuff is not that great.

    Looks good. Definitely darkens the PF. I’m looking to darken my PFF, just don’t know why the tins are so big. They really should make a smaller, one or two time use tin. The price is a bit high for something that barely gets used, like you said you don’t need much. It it certainly works.
    Cheers

      I think the idea is that you can repeat use it, it is a fretboard conditioner as well after all.

  • @BudgetPedalChap

    I'm on the fence about how long the darkening effect will last but it sure does make the board look a load more hydrated and healthy

    • @JasonWharton82
      @JasonWharton82  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah time will tell, I think Monty’s suggest repeat applications as well if you want to get it even darker, the fake wear patches on the body are all treated with this and have been for a while, still retaining the dirty look.

    • @BkBk-gy6vr
      @BkBk-gy6vr 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've used it. It's not much better than standard fret board condition it lasted slightly longer and it really wasn't any darker either.

    I've watched quite a number of these Montypresso vids now and frankly I haven't been that impressed. It certainly makes dry boards seem shinier and more hydrated but the darkening effect seems minimal in every case. I had considered getting some for my Vintera '60s Strat with pau ferro board, but at the price and for the results you get it just doesn't seem worth it.

    • @JasonWharton82

      Really it’s one of those things where one application isn’t going to be life changing, especially if it’s only left on for a few minutes, after multiple applications you might see a significant difference. It’s good as a fretboard conditioner at least and I’ve also used it to great success for aging bare wood when relicing a guitar. I also recently took the finish off the back of my telecaster neck and used this to make the wood look a little less brand new so to speak. It has its uses, if they were charging £50 I’d be telling people to leave well alone but I don’t think the price is too crazy myself.

    What about oiling the fretboard with lemon oil to prevent dry wood AFTER applying the wax? 🤔

    • @JasonWharton82
      @JasonWharton82  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You don’t need to use lemon oil as well as this, this is the conditioner as well as darkening the board.

    Is that stuff just shoe polish??

    • @JasonWharton82
      @JasonWharton82  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not really, it’s a wax mainly with some pigment in it which can have a darkening effect on wood.

    • @GuitarP0RN
      @GuitarP0RN 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Kind of seems like it is though 🤷‍♂️ I've seen folks use brown shoe polish to darken clear poly... cheaper, too

    • @JasonWharton82
      @JasonWharton82  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’ve no skin in the game, just bought the stuff and used it, I’m not convinced the results are lasting but it does at least leave the board looking shiny and revitalised, probably not worth the price for just darkening the wood though.

      Is the tint permanent, or does it wear off over time?

    • @JasonWharton82
      @JasonWharton82  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I believe it has a dye in it so is potentially permanent.

    Rosewood is so hard I doubt that gunk could penetrate it.
    Lemon oil on the other hand is just for cleaning the fingerboard. None of them actually soak in!
    Residue from Wax like that eventually gets on the strings and clogs the wound coils make the strings dull prematurely. It’s most likely a gimmick. Remember Fast Fret? Terrible stuff!!! Best to buy a guitar with the rosewood colour you like and just leave it be! Clean it lightly during string changes with lemon oil and wipe it completely dry before restringing.

    • @JasonWharton82
      @JasonWharton82  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’d say if you are expecting a massive difference immediately you’ll be disappointed, for me it works best to ‘relic’ exposed lighter wood like the body or the back of the neck. It’s pretty good for conditioning the fretboard though but they do a non coloured version if you just want to do that. I have no skin in the game though, bought with my own money and no affiliation with Monty’s.

      @80smxpro41 I think this stuff makes a bit of a difference but I recon it needs regular repeated treatments to make a huge difference, and even then, it’s never gonna get really dark like Brazilian rosewood for example. Thanks for watching and commenting though!
