You can tell he didn't watch Endless Eight when it first came out, because he's actually defending it as a good story. If he had watched this same horrid episode come out week after week for two full months (and they didn't announce they were doing this beforehand remember, this didn't leak and not one single person expected it would go on that long or even be a possibility for season 2) as you slowly realize this great series is dying before your eyes thanks to one of the biggest miscalculations of all time, he'd hate it as much as I do. Amazing analysis! I’ve been in love with this movie since I first saw and have watched every year since. You helped me realize some aspects of it that I hadn’t really thought about before. Its such a wonderful work of art. Absolutely great video!
Thank you for this And, thank you for mentioning about what happened at Kyoto Animation Such a terrible loss for group that helped us feel our humanity
I'm glad you enjoyed my video 🙂 And yeah, I remember feeling heartbroken at the time and I really wanted to mention it in some way. They had such a massive impact on all of us and I hope they are recovering as best as possible.
This video was really good. Put into words my feelings from watching the culmination of the Haruhi story, the disappearance of suzumiya harhui. The anime that got me into and being interested in Japan, Japanese langauge, and Japanese culture. It will always have a special place in my heart.
This is probably my all time favourite anime movie. It's an easy 10/10 for me. It's head and shoulders above everything the melancholy did during its run. It's a shame it's so slept on. Probably because a lot of people dropped this show due to the endless 8.
@@KazeTalks Do you ever intend to go dive in depth with Steins gate? That would be an interesting and entertaining video. Although I think tons of other youtubers have already done that.
An amazing recap of one of the best anime series of all time, which most of us haven't watched in a decade or so. Always felt the same about the Endless Eight arc, it was obvious upon watching that each ep was different, and wasn't a BS "cost-saving" animation like people claim. Hard to get through, but they didn't cut corners--they made it hard for it's own sake. I can't really exaggerate on just how perfectly balanced and well-rounded the entire anime (+ film) is. The slice of life + supernatural as you said, the plot complexity, the AMAZING ENGLISH DUB (one of the best of all time). You put into words something that I couldn't, and never realized till now, which is that one of the defining points of the series is Kyon's internal narrative. This, combined with the amazing Eng dub, makes the series "flow" in a way that no other anime does. It feels very natural. Nothing feels forced or cringe-inducing. Seriously, if anyone wants to get into anime but hates reading subtitles, WATCH THIS SERIES. Another thing is the soundtrack--both opening and closing sequences, as well as the background music, and the in-story band music (God Knows, Lost my Music). Easily one of the best OSTs in all of cinema. In addition to what you recapped in the video, all the background music and animation really gives you a sense of calm, "life goes on" sort of feeling, even if you're not a particularly anxious person. I highly recommend listening to "Itsuumo no Fuukei". Thanks for making OC about the series even 10 years later. Sad to see it over, but happy to see it happened.
Thank you! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video 🙂 Funny you should talk about the Dub. I’m not one to watch Dubs (nothing against them, I just prefer the original versions), but I remember putting the film on again shortly after watching it for the first time. And when I did, I decided to watch the Dub to give it a chance (I heard great things about the dub). And while I do prefer the sub, I throughly enjoyed the dub too. So yeah, you can’t really go wrong with either.
@@KazeTalks No problem, man. Yeah I'm not trying to knock the sub. It's just that anime as a medium has a huge problem with dubbing, with a majority of dubs having non-sequitirs, unnatural pacing, and just becoming overall cringefests. Haruhi has none of that, so it's a perfect starting point for someone who just doesn't feel like reading subtitles. (Subs have other advantages, but they definitely take more mental resources and can distract from the overall story for some people) Admittedly this problem got better over the last decade or so, which actually just makes the Haruhi series even more exemplary, to have had such a great English dub all the way back in 2006.
Yeah I totally forgot about the dub!. Even I (for whom English is clearly not his native language) enjoyed the dub almost as much as the sub. kyon voice specially was able to convey all the emotions the character is feeling through the movie.
I was just thinking about this film again as I finally picked up season 1 yesterday (it's a rare find in the UK). This series has always held a special place in my heart, and I think you summed up the movie beautifully.
A nicely written and well researched analysis. Thank you. I was particulary impressed with how you picked up on those nuances in Nagato's changing eye-line when she was trying to persuade Kyon to stay for dinner. It's those little moments that really speak volumes and show the excellence in the writing. Less is definitely more. You've gained a new subscriber - and now I'm going to binge watch the rest of your videos.
I could have cried how powerful this was. I loved this movie way back in the 2010s, the series in general - which is why Haruhi is my eternal favorite anime character or if you want, my waifu.
This film blew me away, i thought the show was just ok, it wasnt my cup of tea but i heard this movie was really good so i watched it anyway, at the end of the second season i wasnt sure if the movie was going to be as good as people say but man was i wrong, this movie is a masterpiece, one of my favorite movies of all time
Very well said. This movie hits in every way possible because not only you are watching it, but you feel the moments that are happening. Especially those moments that can leave the viewer with confusion, frustration, shock, and being sentimental. I’m sure that this was Kyoto Animation’s goal and they nailed it phenomenally well and I’m glad that the studio has made more great films. 11/10 film.
Just finished the anime a few days ago and the movie an hour ago. This is by and far my favorite anime of all time. An experience that is hard to put into words. I'm extremely happy I put up with the endless eight and watched them all... It was long, but well worth it. Nagato is a gem
Do you guys remember that episode where the sos brigade did a bunch of things on summer vacation for the last 2 weeks? Like they went to the pool and the festival and the fireworks? That was a good episode right guys?
I am one of those who painfully watched the endless eight at the time it was airing. Other people then thought it was unnecessary but I feel it is just right to highlight the reasons for Yuki’s breakdown. If viewers got bored what more for her who had to live through summer over and over for 16,000 times. Back then the reason people complain about the endless eight is because it took years for Haruhi Suzumiya to get a sequel. And 8 out of the 14 eps are same episodes. People want more light novel stuff crammed in that than the endless 8 repeat. The novel I think only took 1 volume for the endless eight arc. I read it btw as well the disappearance arc. The movie did so much justice for the novel.
I haven't watched this movie in over ten years and still remember that scene where we really get insight on Kyon's thought process on making "his choice". This film was ALWAYS underrated, I remember crying from how powerful the emotions are protrayed and feeling so hard for Nagato. Realizing how much she really endured, and how powerful Haruhi's disappearance really effected Kyon, and he really lost his composure. This movie made the show make SO much more sense, giving us a realistic view on it all from Nagato's view, and watching Kyon really develop and mature to be able to accept his life the way it was. I don't know why I had to watch this video tonight, but I am so glad I did. I haven't felt such powerful emotion from an anime since.
good take on the film and series. loved the endless eight too, best take on the time loop i've seen so far. most time it's just some hours or a day in the loop and the movies/series only show 2-3 short loops and later some key scenes to resolve the loop. but showing 8 mostly identical episodes made you really feel the loop and i have to copy your words, i've watched it like you in one go and had to imagine how frustrating it had been seeing it airing over 2 months. with this presentation style the loop had a much bigger emotional impact and meaning when someone said how many loops they're been in it. also loved the scene when he found haruhi, it was so well composed, the music, the silence and just seeing parts of her, the hair in slow mo and his hesitation. you described it really well.
I love every second of this movie but kyons depression monologues in the beginning shows everyone how even without the huge bombastic plot elements, it works with just kyon, music, and color/ camera work, a great call back to classic film. Don't get me started on the ending into the credits. Goat movie
Watching the endless eight saga in real time was one of the most surreal times in my anime watching time. I will never forget it. I love haruhi so much
I was completely unaware of I was watching but the storytelling of Haruhi Suzumiya grew on me as I got older. I was around my teens when I started watching the series, along with the movie. But for some reason, I found myself religiously watching the Disappearance every Christmas break around December 16. Around the same time where the movie took place. It resonated with me more on what it felt about making choices, growing up, and taking things for granted. To this day the movie is still super special to me. I will never forget what kinds of lessons I learned after re watching it for almost 10 years repeatedly now. To me this movie was a message, a message about the grandeur of life, the laughter we share among friends, and the moments to cherish it while it lasts. It may be just another memory, but it's what feeds our souls, making us who we are. As per the words of Adult Mikuru in the movie: "When it's all over, you'll feel it went by so fast, like you were living a beautiful dream."
For me, what did it was the rooftop scene at the end with Kyon and Nagato. She was always the easy to forget and overlooked character because "yeah, she's just and android, she's got no feelings". But I'll be damned, she was hurting in the end, and just wanted enough. I honestly hated the Endless Eight first time watching, but after watching the movie, and seeing how she was the one behind the changes. It gave me an appreciation of the arc. So I agree, it's an amazing movie. The series didn't really resonate with me honestly, and I never understood why everyone was so hyped by the series, but I was glad I stuck with it purely because of the movie and the rewarding watch it is!!
I love this movie and i really needed to watch this video. I don't speak English fluently, so he's a little rusty, but I managed to understand just about everything you say in the video, the way you speak is incredible. Congratulations! I will be watching your other videos, so keep in mind that you have won yet another subscriber. Thanks for this video.
This is quite literally the best anime ever for its genre and what it does *period* Kind of a shame I couldn't finish watching The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. Anyways I'll go find it on YT cause I watched it on YT like 6 or so tears ago. Also calling this a Masterpiece is a insult. Calling this *God's Work* is better despite being a bit of an understatement
I just finished watching the movie. It was an absolute masterpiece. I can't really tell what i liked or i disliked but i'm sure i loved it. Masterpiece.
Thanks! For some reason, I have really tied Synthwave to Anime when it comes to conveying certain feelings and emotions. And The Midnight are just incredible with so many of their emotional tracks.
Great analysis, this is easily one of my favorite anime movies, maybe even in the running for one of my favorite movies in general. I am actually in the middle of reading through the whole light novel series for the first time, and I am seeing the different elements that are used when telling a story in a book and telling it on screen, like how the rooftop scene just takes place in the hospital room, since the emotion has to be conveyed with descriptive language rather than visuals. Anyway, it’s a real shame what happened to Kyoto Animation. I certainly hope that they are able to rebuild and put out new masterpieces.
I've been meaning to talk about The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya for a while now. I vividly remember, not just watching it for the first time, but mostly just thinking about it for weeks on end, trying to understand all the layers it had underneath. And the more I thought about it, the more I loved it. So, here is my personal interpretation on why I believe this film to be a cinematic masterpiece. Gorgeous animations, amazing and deep story, opressive atmosphere, unreal soundtrack. My mother, who never watched more than 2 episodes of the show, loved it. Everybody who watched it with me loved it and was deeply touched by it. The only other movie that gets under my skin like this one are Roman Holiday. It very tangibly influenced my life (as the show itself) for better. A bit of a personal story: when I watched this movie for the first time, pirated, in 2015, my computer speakers were busted, so I watched it with subtitles on and Pink Floyd playing in the backround (Division Bell and Calling All Stations). From that point on, some scenes are for me forever linked with very specific Pink Floyd songs, and every time I listen to them, that particular scene just plays in my head. That is the official soundtrack for me.
Love this deep dive. I watched this film a long time ago and was impressed with the depth of storytelling. Great concept and I'd love to watch the series.
I thank you for such an excellent analysis! Feels like the whole series in a way is a build up to this movie. And man, does it deliver. This film is true cinematic perfection in every way possible, with it's incredible visuals, profound themes, gripping plot, and a perfect soundtrack to back it all up. It gave depth to all it's characters, especially Yuki Nagato, making her one of my favourites, despite her lack of character shown previously. I can safely say that despite the show having it's great and not so great moments, it's definetly all worth it in the end just for this masterpiece of a film. 10/10
Yeah... I like to add a game here... Disco Elysium... It's loads of more thicker, but got me easy at some points. P.s. the "fake world" was just that. Even if Yuki seems to not show emotions, this fake world was a shining light, and question at the same time, that would he want to be blinded by it, and settle in the darkness that it brings, or try to see what he might be able to find. Sure it's tough move, but being real takes bit more than that.
Excellent review! Your delivery is really superb. Those last couple of minutes gave me goosebumps on how well you outlined what makes KyoAni so special. You have a new subscriber!
In some bits of this video there is stuff that us the viewers watching this video already knew beforehand next time you make a video like this add a little more, but I still love this video and think the movie is a masterpiece!

there is a channel which goes in depth frame by frame analysis of Disppearance, in some 4 videos, if you are a lover of this anime , i highly recommend you guys watch it :)
i think you over looked the part where the characters didn't just "turn" to normal but actually sent Kyon to an alternate dimension where everything is normal (which resulted into a spin off series Disappearance of Nagato)

This movie is the reason why I've rewatched the series 7 times, because I have to rewatch the series everytime I want to rewatch the movie. This is my favorite film of all time
When Kyon questioned himself, he realized he didn't want peace. He wants problems always.
My favorite anime film underrated classic..
Amazing analysis! I’ve been in love with this movie since I first saw and have watched every year since. You helped me realize some aspects of it that I hadn’t really thought about before. Its such a wonderful work of art. Absolutely great video!
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate the kind words 🙏
Thank you for this
And, thank you for mentioning about what happened at Kyoto Animation
Such a terrible loss for group that helped us feel our humanity
Same
This and steins gate are still my favorite anime of all time.
Yeah, Steins Gate is also fantastic. A thrilling rollercoaster ride.
@@KazeTalks Do you ever intend to go dive in depth with Steins gate? That would be an interesting and entertaining video. Although I think tons of other youtubers have already done that.
Maybe one day. I normally tend to do videos on shows or films that I want to talk about at the time of making them.
A man of culture, I have the same opinion these 2 anime share no.1 for me

Thank you! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
Funny you should talk about the Dub.
(Subs have other advantages, but they definitely take more mental resources and can distract from the overall story for some people)
Admittedly this problem got better over the last decade or so, which actually just makes the Haruhi series even more exemplary, to have had such a great English dub all the way back in 2006.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
That really means a lot, thank you! 🙏
I could have cried how powerful this was. I loved this movie way back in the 2010s, the series in general - which is why Haruhi is my eternal favorite anime character or if you want, my waifu.
you went beyond my expectations
😄
I think this is just the right amount of depth for an in depth review, non of that highschool analysis bullshit
I member!
I wish they could do more of that :(
I am one of those who painfully watched the endless eight at the time it was airing.
I feel like the endless 8 was so much better than the novel's version, you see a lot more emotion and change from Nagato in the endless 8
The memories of each weeks new episode leading to disappointment are still fresh in my mind.
i am not crying, someone is just cutting onions
More people need to watch haruhi
Dude, if you could put subtitles in PT-BR I would love it.
I REALLY WANT TO WATCH THIS VIDEO.
The perfect anime analysis dont exi...
Kaze Talks.
Omg, that means so much! Thanks 🥲
good take on the film and series.
loved the endless eight too, best take on the time loop i've seen so far. most time it's just some hours or a day in the loop and the movies/series only show 2-3 short loops and later some key scenes to resolve the loop. but showing 8 mostly identical episodes made you really feel the loop and i have to copy your words, i've watched it like you in one go and had to imagine how frustrating it had been seeing it airing over 2 months. with this presentation style the loop had a much bigger emotional impact and meaning when someone said how many loops they're been in it.
also loved the scene when he found haruhi, it was so well composed, the music, the silence and just seeing parts of her, the hair in slow mo and his hesitation. you described it really well.
That anime haruhi suzumiya is a part of my Life😃
Dude, fantastic video first of all. That movie means so much to so many people and it is a masterpiece in all respects of the word.
Thank you! And yeah, the film is a masterpiece in every possible sense, for sure.
I love this video! Amazing job!
Thanks! I'm happy you enjoyed it 🙂
really surprised you don't have more views and subs, this was a great video
Thanks! That means a lot 🙂
@@KazeTalks now I gotta watch the rest of the videos later👍🏼
I love every second of this movie but kyons depression monologues in the beginning shows everyone how even without the huge bombastic plot elements, it works with just kyon, music, and color/ camera work, a great call back to classic film. Don't get me started on the ending into the credits. Goat movie
One of the best. As one would say, this is peak fiction
Im going to start the first season now and will watch this video after I get through both seasons and then the movie.
Sounds like a good plan 🙂 Enjoy watching the show and the film then.
Watching the endless eight saga in real time was one of the most surreal times in my anime watching time. I will never forget it. I love haruhi so much
Excellent video. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is one of the greatest films of all time.
i consider this one of the greatest anime movies ever made. it makes going through the endless 8 worth it.
Truly ... The movie is something else.... It's one of my top 3 movies...
I WAS THE 1000th subscriber nice job man
Thank you!! You, and everyone else who has subscribed, just enlightened my day. I really do appreciate it! 😃
Great video, but i don't understand why isn't it popular
I actually watched this before the series xD
Did you really have to bring up your name, and your lie in april
now im tearing up
A wonderful explaination, thank you!
You’re welcome!
Respect for talking about this movie. Kyoani is by far my favourite studio of all time
For me, what did it was the rooftop scene at the end with Kyon and Nagato.
The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato made the movie feel truly whole to those who felt for Nagato during the movie
You know, you really are amazing! Thanks so much for making such emotional and beautiful reviews. Good luck in all you're doing!
Thank you! Glad to have you as a sub 😃
this is an amazing video😭😭😭😭
Thank you so much! 🙏
Beautiful video
thank you for this. i love it
I just finished watching the movie. It was an absolute masterpiece. I can't really tell what i liked or i disliked but i'm sure i loved it. Masterpiece.
Well said! And was super surprised to hear The Midnight in the background 😁 All great choices to for each scene and getting your points across 👍👍
Another fantastic review. I watched the series and movie because of your video and I am so glad I did. Amazing.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Makes me real happy knowing that my video influenced you in watching the show and film 🙂
The way you do this video is soooo beautiful! Thank you ❤️

Great concept and I'd love to watch the series.
found this a few months back but didnt watch it. im back and i wished i watched this sooner. 5/7/2021
Very well explained feelings ❤
Thanks! 🙂
Finally found this video once again So I could enjoy it instead of watching the actual series.
Great explanation ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! 🙏
Thank you for the explanation

In Sci-Fi terms, this movie is where Kyon gives up being Arthur Dent, and becomes The Doctor.
I watched this entire series over the last couple weeks..and....oh my god!

i think you over looked the part where the characters didn't just "turn" to normal but actually sent Kyon to an alternate dimension where everything is normal (which resulted into a spin off series Disappearance of Nagato)
I remember finding the Manga in a local library then found the anime right after that
