I use the k702’s for their MASSIVE sound stage
Great for gaming
There's a Bass Mod that you can do to these headphones and it makes bass sound much better but that mod will reduce the stage a little bit.
Search you TH-cam about that mod, it's easy to do and easy to put it back!
Bass mod does not reduce soundstage at all.
I just got a pair of Austrian Q701s...and yes, they are even harder to drive than my K701s and HD600s!! But I actually love the sound of them. They are just slightly different than the 701s...but in a good way. The articulation is still there.
I have a set of AKG 701's. Thank god I have Sonarworks 4 sound calibration for these cans though. I feel so sorry for anyone having to put up with the inescapable 'factory' bump at 2k. Q701s are even worse with bass - bloated out - not the real at all.. Again, this can be corrected by Sonarworks 4. It's not only AKG, lots of headphone companies that deliver flagship 'reference' headphones do us a disservice by adding EQ curves for the mass listener.. I have tracking Beyer Dynamic DT770'S - again, same factory EQ curve illusion..

I've got a pair of Q701 black listed on REVERB for 149.99 listed under Sammy 's Gear Depot 4/3/17 if anyone wants a great deal on some slightly used ones... and I do mean SLIGHTLY
I don't mind of the waffle. I love the jokes as well ("I love piles"). The other reviewers are so bloody dull that I usually doze off regardless of the content - having said this he knows what he is talking about. So carry on Z, just subscribed.

Same breaking in applies to K701's. Never believed in this before until I got a second pair. Same thing. All depends on the driver, for example Shure 1840 - great from day one, especially the Sssss-sound :D
Even if broken in, the factory curve is inescapable and absolutely an illusion. Sonarworks 4 can correct this. I am in no way connected to the company BTW, just brought the software - which for me is a game changer.

I've had to pairs of these for a couple of years, and both ones are broken cause the see through plastic that holds the band thingie on the sides wear and break apart. They sound great, but I guess it's too much to ask to have them not fall apart.
I've never understood why headphone companies like to make the headband cushion weird shapes.
My hearing seems to be the same as yours, with annoying highs or harsh highs. Sometimes that can be fixed with burn-in time, sometimes with a good EQ, or minimized,
but if not, then the fix is.....SELL THEM or RETURN THEM. HEHE! In the toidy I actually bought the mini Quincys in the goblin fucking green, and they sound ok, semi-comfortable for portables,
the highs weren't screechy but maybe lacking a bit overall, they sounded fine for tiny portables, but a bit "compressed" if that makes sense. Small drivers, closed-back, etc. But
for easily portable phones they aren't bad at all. They'd be great for commuting, biking, the beach, etc.

Hey Zeos, I need some advice on which headphones to buy. I currently have the HD681 EVO and looking to upgrade to something that has better clarity and has a more neutral sound. My budget is around $200. I'm likely going to get the Q701 but I want to know if I should consider other headphones like the AD900x or the Fidelio X1. Also, what are the major differences I would notice when switching from the HD681 EVO to the Q701?
CrystalShardz Build quality for one. The low end will also get slightly heavier and tighter. Soundstage should also improve but I can't quantify that since it has been a while since I had the 701's for a head to head.

Well i need inputs for phones and monitors so it should do fine here. What i dont know, is if it delivers good sounds through. I havent got the chance to test it.

The Xonar cards aren't bad. If you find it plays loud enough with it I wouldn't worry.

goes low (10hz) with no boost @ 100hz, so it sounds bassy like a movie with a good subwoofer, punchy, instead of boomy I guess.

Wow I can't believe you didn't like these headphones, I own a pair and it's the best headphones I've ever had. Granted, they sound like cheap headphones with not enough volume without an amp, and I don't own an amp, so I just bastardized the sound digitally with the PC audio card, and they sound really good, so I imagined that they would sound very good with an amp so it was shocking to watch this review.
BTW I don't own these headphones anymore because the left can gave out on sound, AKG was nice enough to send me new headphones but a different model because they didn't have any in their inventory. I plan on just selling the ones they are sending me and I already ordered another headphones that I actually want, this time it's not AKG though, I think AKG headphones are very fragile, and the wiring inside when I inspected it, was shoddy as hell, that's made in China for you I guess.
Macky Mode Hey! Idk if you still have them, but you can fix them! I had the same issue, wiring was cheap as fuck on the inside. Look up some tutorials and get some tiny wire and solder. I got a wire from inside an ethernet cable, soldering was a bitch but worth it since it worked.

No, these are greentooth. Which is still portable because the cable is long enough to plug in at home and still allow you can ride the bus across town.

Wearing any kind of headphones, regardless of comfort, WILL NOT make you go bald or lose hair. End of.
