What would happen if the lift went to the top floor whilst you were on it (in automatic mode), would there be enough room at the top for a person or would it crush you?
bakedbeanishdragon The handrails around the lift show that there is a bit of room, but there is not much. There has to be room for the lift to do an emergency stop (without crashing) if it passes the final limit switch and hits the overrun switch at full speed. Lifts from the 70s and earlier always have the motor room quite a way above the top floor, but newer lifts don't, I wonder if some lifts would crash if they hit the overrun t full speed.
You can see the shaft bars with magnets on in the video. The lift has many reference points as it levels with a floor, rather than just two. As well as this the motor has a tachometer which judges the distance it has moved between the reference points. The logic uses DC pulsing or DC pulsed AC pulsing. The logic uses a set slowdown rate. AccelJerk is not calculated (AccelJerk is the rate that the acceleration increases, measured in m/s/s/s). AccelJerk is effectively infinity m/s/s/s, as the lift slows down at a set m/s/s that it snaps to at the start of the slow down, and the logic is very efficient of keeping it at the exact rate until it stops. Also Schindlers are not scared to overrun the floor, unlike pretty much every other lift ever invented. If it overruns it does not even apply the brake, it simply moves the lift back to the floor in one clean motion like nothing ever happened. If you watch the pre-doors very carefully on one of these, it is quite common to see it overrun ever so slightly and instantly bounce back.
You found some of the service lifts! I've got a feeling that the glass scenic lifts here will be modernised soon - the call buttons and outside indicators have already been replaced with crap generic (the indicators do not show direction even though Schindler are still maintaining them. Hopefully they'll leave the service/staff lifts alone as they are not used by the public.
Mattyeah101 If it is Schindler is doing the work then at least the intelligent leveling will be kept. Hopefully they won't replace the inside buttons, as there is no need to do so. The outside buttons on the glass lifts was replaced as the whole front around the lift as refurbished. I was going to surf the LM - 4 glass lifts, but there is now that photo place in the atrium on 1, they will see me.
***** The internal buttons are starting to look a bit worn on them and even if they were perfect, it's never stopped buttons being replaced before. The new landing indicators are total crap - they don't show any direction indicator like the old ones so people always get in the wrong lifts, they don't chime, and some of them sometimes show garbled text. Even the original indicators on the generic Lift*c lifts used to flow and show an arrow.
Mattyeah101 It looks to me like the outside buttons were replaced because the outside has been redecorated. All of the lifts, including the generics, have had this done. You will nice if you look at the mall today that they've out all this orange lighting and wood and stuff outside of the lift. the old buttons would've had to have been removed when this took place.
Interesting fact - the new design of the area surrounding the lifts appeared first on the Upper Mall outside the generic lifts (presumably as a prototype), and the paneling was just cut around the existing call button and indicators (the call button was set back about 3 inches into the wall!). This was then completely redone (with the new fixtures) when the rest of the landings were modernised. The Otis 2000 hasn't had this treatment, presumably because of the plans that are currently in motion to alter the layout of that part of the centre.
i think i came across one of them, it is a 1m/s schindler to 15th floor (quite stupid, 1m/s) But, the buttons don't look like that, is it possible if they replaced the button with schindler modern day buttons?
If I want to surf some lifts, is there much training to do? I've surfed some lifts in skyscrapersim and I don't know if there's more things to do (apart from buying a triangle a drop key).
+kriskolo2013 My short answer to this is that lift surfing is not safe and I don't advise people to copy me, there are many risks, and some may not be obvious from watching my videos. My long answer is a bit more complicated. It all depends on what sort of person you are. Are you the sort of person who can think things through in a very logical way, or are you the sort of person who would try to jump on top of a lift without thinking. There are risks with lift surfing, and these risks can be managed, but at the same time if you don't think through and understand risk then they can be very dangerous. So, to start with, you should have a couple of years experience with riding lifts. By riding lift I don't just mean going in them, but noticing all of the details to a precise level. For example the differences in logic between ecodisc and gen2. Things like the differences in how the logic handles different things and the small details about how the different lifts run. With lift surfing you need to be very observant like this. This page explains how to lift surf... elevatorcommunity.wikia.com/wiki/10_Steps_to_Elevator_Surfing_-_A_Safety_Guide
+benobve Thanks so much for that. I'm person who want's to do everything as perfect and as safety as possible (also lift surfing). This means I'm not ready to surf a lift.
+kriskolo2013 well, you are, but you are just not expirienced yet, you have not know much things. You can surf a lift, but there are somethings that you have to know what to avoid or blah blah, it just isnt safe.
The 90s Schindler Lift At Debenhams In Bromley Has Been Modernised By Kone To Look Like A Ecodisc The Main Glass 90s Schindler Lifts At The Glades Bromley Has Sadly Been Replaced With Stupid Generic
Nice in every way! That motor sound ❤ really fast!! Also liked the part where you explained what to say when you get caught!
This is a truly amazing elevator.
This and the Kone M series are my absolute fave

***** Maybe if they had a logic fault and not a very big motor, like an ecodisc.
A lot of Fujitec MRL lifts in Singapore have nice MRL sound.
90s Schindler Lifts At The Glades Bromley
THIS IS ONE AWESOME M SERIES
I found one of those lifts modded by............. Schindler!!! I can't believe they modded their own lift!
Did they left the inteligent leveling?
NO!!!
Idiots
+kriskolo2013
Then it might have been Schindler generic.
sorry for the late reply they are now replacing the lifts again! Hopefully they replace them with some good lifts!
Do you know how the positioning system on these kinds of lifts works?

I think the OTIS 2000 VF belongs to waterstones, not the mall. Therefore, changing it wouldn't be their responsibility.

Beno I think you should go to Hong Kong as there are many skyscrapers, lots of them grotty if you manage to find the right places to go.

+Beno the best logic. motor room?
Awesome!!
Hidden or rarely used lifts are most likely to be left unmodernised for the next couple of years.
1 hidden lift at west quay in southampton
+Alanabanana09 modded and I replied myself
1:12 That lift is gone, stupid jackson replaced it
