Loved watching this video. When my son was 3 years old he started taking apart alarm clocks. I couldn't put them back together so I ended up having to buy new ones. My husband was in Germany at the time. He thought it was funny. Until he got home and we didn't have any alarm clock. My son is 37 now. He helps take things apart to take to the scrap yard. Thank you for sharing. I would watch more videos like this.
Your value is in your knowledge of metal alloys and how much you can get paid for it. Definitely well worth "scrapping" the unit. Thank you for your patience and teaching info. Blessings.
Hey Taco Stacks . Ok I'm gonna say it's just smart to break it down you make more money. I like this it's something I didn't know and next time I get rid of a air conditioner I'm breaking it down. You have taught a 56 year old something today Thank You. PEACE✌✌✌💯💯💓💓💓🐕🐕💕💕💕
Gosh I miss having a guy around the house! I used to sit and watch my husband do "guy stuff". I guess that's how I knew how to do a lot . I like learning new things. I may never use it but at least I know how. Thanks for sharing
@@austinhernandez2716 I never get discouraged but I did like watching my guy work on cars and build things. He liked to stay busy. You don't see that too much these days. I was raised old school. You had to be able to fix things because who had the money😊 My mother did say I could do anything I set my mind to. Then I had my brother telling me I can't do something because I'm a girl. Thanks for the encouragement.
That was very nice of you. I’ve heard you say a hundred times “just saw off those noodles”. And lo & behold, it was just that simple. I’m handy at taking things apart and after your video, I could take apart an air conditioner. Thank you very much for sharing your time with all of us.
So as of today (April 4, 2023) copper prices are $4.05/pound.... i think its due time i Scrap those 4 A/C units left behind in the shed of my new property!!
You can sell the motor and capacitor on Ebay because people like me are always looking for parts because I restore air conditioners like this as a hobby.
So how much is a motor like that worth? How much to ship from Ebay? Do your customers pay for the motor and shipping? or are they just friends looking for help?
Taco, I enjoyed watching you dis assemble that unit. I can see this isn't your first rodeo:) Even at the current prices that adds up to a nice bit of change, especially by separating the pieces...impressive. Cheers, Rik Spector
The fan motor that you do not disassemble has two and a half pounds of copper, it would be about 6 dollars for 5 minutes of your time. I always remove them. Greetings from Spain.
OMG you're a person with a method to picking trash treasures. Will it generate you a profit? Now, I understand every item left at curbs won't be a money maker. GREAT VIDEO AND GREAT CONTENT. THUMBS-UP ALWAYS!!!!!!!!
Just last week I separated the aluminum fins from the copper tubing in an A/C for the first time. I used a grinder but on smaller units you can use a box cutter. It's so easy you'll probably want to do that.
In one of your videos you were picking up some ceiling fan motors. There were some of the fan blade arms in a container. I believe you said they were die cast, but you didn't say what they are actually cast out of. I have several I would like to scrap. They fail the magnet test. What are they made of? Love your channel!
This was a very neat video, it'd be nice if you show more like this where you dismantle things for scrap, nice to see where the value of it actually comes from.
@Vann Berg HVAC I am about to try scrapping 3 AC units previous owner left behind on my property... between 5,000 to 8,000 btu's... doing what he did in video, how much u think I could get? Copper today is $4.05 per pound
Hi, Taco. Very interesting about these air conditioners and the breakdown of them. Probably look to grab some as I go around on trash day. I like the new shirt. Will that be in the store anytime soon? I wasn't sure about the hat, but that looked like a cool hat as well. Hope you're doing well and catch up with you another time. Thanks! 😎👍
Hey i found a window unit and i started breaking it down but then realized I didn’t wanna let freon out do u know of any way to test or check to see if there actually is freon in the system or any way of measuring that
Thank you so much for this demo. So how much are you setting aside by not taking the motor? I thought you said the value for the air conditioner scrapped is about fifty but at the end you estimated twenty, so what parts and value did you not do for us to view? Is there a way to move onto the van an air conditioner with lifting with arms. ( I'm a weakling). What would you suggest? ( taking apart at the scene? ) or just not.. Is there a leverage way to get one into my van? I'd like to try this for extra income being retired.
To get anything heavy into your van. Place a 2x6 board on tail of van then other end on ground. Then place heavy object on wood. There's two ways load it up. Slide it on said wood or rope it to front seat and pull her up. I'd you do the second one ensure wood is wide enough for said object. Motors are worth money them selfs. I take them out and flaten the skin of ac unit. Easy for transport
Man, you’re making extra work for yourself! Those I put those copper/aluminum rads in a bench vice, then I run my saws all in between the rad, and the magnetic end. Then all those copper ends, (noodles as you call them) I just pop them out of the magnetic end with a pair of channel locks!
Wire cutters work best for me to cut the elbows off cuz they won't fly everywhere while cutting them.. I also melt everything down.. Aluminum & copper.. I've got 110lbs of reclaimed Copper & about 30lbs of Aluminum sitting on my desk.. Devil forge FTW!!
I'd recommending clamping the thing down I was watching to see how easy the saw was on that that was kind of risque strongarming the saw like that especially the final cut on that flimsy bin 😂🤣😂🤣😂
That was so cool to watch. I may never do it myself, but at least I know how to scrap an AC for some cash. I love to see a man work with his hands. Anyone who calls Taco, anything but hard working or smart is a fool. 🔨🔧🚙
My yard is so careful with refrigerant that I don't mess with anything that uses it. That causes me to leave some decent $ on the street, but nothing to be done about it. Plenty of other stuff to keep me busy.
You can get about 20 cents per pound on that motor you are throwing several extra dollars away all you have to do is cut the shaft of the motor with you sawzall or an angle grinder and take it out

You need a new husband ?
@@jaydenweston1000 Mine was a gem. I could never find one as beautiful as he was. Even my family loved him. Now that is rare in itself.
I would hope you missed a man around the house for more than just house repair. What about lifting heavy objects, too? LOL!!!😆
The motor is the most valuable part.. The copper windings in that motor are close to ten lbs. Maybe more.
I'm looking for good advice on recovering the freon.

Thanks, Taco! Helped me while away about 30 minutes while homebound due to virus! Ha ha
What tool was that to cut off the copper noodles? Taco or any viewer. Thanks.
Sawzall
Thanks Taco, You learn something new everyday.
Good job taco. I am just wondering how much money the scrap yard will pay you for the metal.
I probably will never scrap an air conditioner, but this video was very educating to watch.
You should try, next time the opportunity arises!😊
Thoroughly enjoyed this! I'm into efficiency so maximizing the return on your scrap was very satisfying to watch
you can litteraly reuse the compressor as an air compressor cuz it can reach higher pressure and its quiter
Not bad, very informative. Thanks big guy
Good show,thanks.
Interesting to see what's all in an air conditioner unit.
Nice job! 👍. Thanks 😊
Hey I was disassembling the similar unit thanks for the additional info very helpful LoMilla Kansas
thankyou i never knew how much i was missing out on. what about a refridgerator?
Thanks, I’ve got five old units to scrap and now I know how!
Thanks for the cool video!!!!!! loved it

I would be thinking ka ching with every piece as it separates. Thanks for the vid, Taco.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of scrspping!
I used to build window unit a/,c units. The end plates on the coils were aluminum.
I adore copper and gold
That was fun. Always took my toys apart as a kid, to see how they worked.
Yes I did that too to see why they did not work or find out how they worked. Later I worked as a mechanical designer for many years..
I would like to see more of this type video!
Is the motor fully wound in copper wire?
Me and my brother used to do a lot of these along with tv's and anything that had motors in them...
Great video

Air conditioners are like gold mines for scrappers
Yeah I try to be responsible with screws and bolts had enough flats to put screws and such separate but along with non ferrous stuff with other sales
Good info! Thx!

More scrap videos and videos where you take stuff apart. I do enjoy these videos. 🤗🇩🇰
How did you manage to get that monster in your van; hopefully with some help. I have scrapped a smaller unit, and it's fun.
Thanks for the tips.
The fan motor? With a cut off saw 35 seconds
Can you sell motors to the scrap yard as a separate category?
Yes you can
Definitely worth it🤔
Looks like fun too🤗
How do u vent the air out of the compressor before you cut into the Freon lines?
Very informative... TY! Do you think using a grinder with a cutting wheel for cutting off all nuts and bolts would be more efficient?
Thanks for the entertainment.
What about the refrigerant fluid inside the tubes. Toxic? Flammable?
Puts holes in the ozone layer

I always try to make sure the compressor sits upright because you have oil that will leak out most of the time once you cut that copper

What about the fan
Mmmm. Copper noodles. Just like grandma used to make.
just use hacksaw to remove fan motor
Watch out for those Wasps! That probably would've been enough for me to stop right then & there.
You can get about 20 cents per pound on that motor you are throwing several extra dollars away all you have to do is cut the shaft of the motor with you sawzall or an angle grinder and take it out
If you chop the top of the compressor ,there is copper in there as well.
Compressors are incredibly messy to take apart, plus they have pretty thick steel case that has to be cut off. Not as easy as it sounds.
Hello taco stacks 🍀🌹
Them motor come off with two screws, comes right out..
To much work for him
I know everyone does thing differently but I think cord should be cut off first. eliminate trip hazard and get it out of your way
