I have a 96 with a 4-speed manual. I got tired of the stock exhaust rattling and cut it off, and stuck a motorcycle muffler on it. It sounds mean, but with 34hp, it's all bark and no bite. Absolutely the funniest vehicle I have ever owned.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the mighty car mods one of these. It was used in the latest super cheap ad. They dropped a “big block” 3cyl engine in it. It may even get to 102kph. Hehe
Love the review of the Midget 2, Ross. Sure was an “interesting” video. Great truck for small deliveries around the city but the handling sure looked iffy on the road. The 0-100 was quite entertaining. You would probably have a better chance of reaching 100km/h going down hill in neutral. Still a fun little truck. Thanks for the review.
I have a 5 speed manual 4WD 1996 Hijet, the bigger brother to the Midget II. It's surprisingly capable as a 4WD truck that climbs like a billy goat, gets into tight spots that a larger truck can't reach, and it has a full size bed but without the wheel well humps eating into the cargo capacity. The unexpected thing I love is the tight turning radius. It'll turn around in the width of a two lane road. Yesterday, I pulled into a parking lot and not only turned 180 degrees left to park in the first available parking spot, I parked in the left side of the parking spot to leave more room for my friend to park next to me. My friend came in behind me in his Tundra 4WD pickup and was unable to park in the spot to my right and was forced to park in the spot to the right of that with an empty space between us. Kei truck maneuverability is excellent and largely underappreciated until someone drives one. They're great for zipping around town and running errands. Visibility is excellent too, which also helps in congested areas. I love my little Hijet.
I have what I believe to be the only kei car on the road in my town of 330,000 people. I get a lot of smiles, waves, thumbs up and positive comments when I drive my 1996 4WD Hijet, the slightly larger brother of the Midget II. I can only imagine the reaction if I drove the quirkier Midget II. I'm shocked at how practical the Hijet is. It's a great 4WD truck for everything but highway driving and pulling a trailer.
I have a yellow ‘97 automatic one and a white ‘92 van version midget 2, also automatic. It cured me from texting while driving! First time out I glanced down to send a text (about how much fun I was having driving this thing) and when I looked up, I was heading into a country road ditch 😳. The steering is pretty direct and not many turns lock to lock!!
I'm accustomed to seeing kei trucks that are white on the inside and some other color on the outside because the new owner painted an old kei truck, most of which were originally white. This little Midget II is red on the inside and white on the outside, so I guess it was a red Midget II that Stewart Pest Control had wrapped or painted?
U can’t option these as 4WD. I’ve driven a manual one in the uk and it’s very nippy once yr going and keeps up with traffic. Start of in 2nd gear and away u go. U definitely feel the bumps in it.
Man I couldn't stop laughing seeing you driving this Midget & whizzing around the corners in the wet at 50ks you could have rolled it mate lol & I told you it wouldn't get to 100ks haha, but yes it's cute like a bug & still better than walking so I can't rubbish it,so good work Johnny this was a hoot to watch thanks Pal 😆
Way too cute!!😊 I would love to have 2!! First and second generation, with, wheels and other upgrades! I doubt it would be legal in the states!! Especially in California!
Well, I, believe it or not, drive around in a virtual world in one of these....ummm yeah enough said about that, most peeps would not know what thats all about unless they have experienced it but a few weeks ago I saw one zooming along Paterson Rd in Rockingham WA and I recognised it straight away..I had to laugh because it was doing very well keeping with the traffic flow and of course the laugh goes because the rear of this car is only just behind the front bumper so to speak. This little Midget is ideal for a local get about here in Rockingham and I would even drive it south to visit family. Oh gosh lets get back on track...no seriously, the prices of these just make them impossible to get for me being a pensioner but hey ...Christmas is here soon ...nudge nudge hey, hey :)

Small and practical .... excellent!
Very cool mini truck

You could almost tee off on the back of that thing. Gotta get your hands on a peel p50. Cool little car👍🇦🇺🍻
That would be cool eh 🤣
With that title, I was waiting for a survey of the drive train, suspension, and chassis, at least. Ask the man who fixes one.
I remembered when reviewed a Daihatsu before
That thing is awesome 👏
Great for the countryside and even in cities. A good point A-B kind of thing.

Awesome little car. Imagine engine swapping it with a Hayabusa GSXR engine😂
That would be crazy!!
Mighty car mods dropped a big block (3cyl 1.0l) in one. Hehe
The car would fly off the road with that HP mostly plastic if you crash you will basically die.
@@nateroberts3308 back in the day v8s we’re dropped in original minis. Hehe
@@nateroberts3308not unlike crashing a Hayabusa! 😜

Blair!
The best
Midengine, center seating possition.. it's basically a Mclaren F1
😂😂😂 basically the same thing

92? the production run was 1996 to 2001...
@@RMediaObelisk typo! a 1998 Van!

I just recently found out about these and now me and my fiance need one

New Name for that Daihatsu?

🤣🤣🤣
How about the Daihatsu Little Bas-tard...? :)
Why do they stick the spare tire on the front bumper?
Is it for the collision shock absorbent?
Brilliant!
Glad you enjoyed
I have flashbacks from Gran Turismo 2.
haha
Imagin a barra engine swap. The engine is larger than the "truck".
Insane 🤣 I want to see it tho
It would implode quicker than the Oceanlab Titan
@@mrdoiii *It's actually called "OceanGate Titan" but nice try. I'll give you E for Effort.*
@@victorpeirce4753 no worries princess 🤣😂

I think they are legal in the USA
On the far right of the dashboard, is that the oil fill?
No
These would be popular for Menulog delivery driver because the compact size
I'm pretty sure the name is a play on words. Daihatsu has the bigger (relatively) Hijet, and the Midget is literally a smaller version.
I drive past that on the way to work. Not far from Spud Shed Midland 🤣
Cool little rig eh lol
Do on force Gurkha it looks unique
What about more content say having the quirky ones between the "REAL" ones lol
Very nice review bro i loved this video your interaction was awesome as well ❤️🩹 from India 🇮🇳
Thanks a ton🙏✅
Perfect for me!
It’s a great machine

Дайхатсу - лучший городской развозчик пиццы....😂😂😂👏👏👏
Bruh keep your hand on the wheel. Lol
It ain’t going anywhere 😂
Is it sold in US?
No but you can import them
Needs a turbo
Definitely 💯
What mpg does it do? So not powerful, but very cheap to run.
Think around 4L per 100km
Good for small island 😂
It has a heated seat!
What's the gas mileage like
Under 4L per 100km
Why Australia looking like it's England?😂
🤣 wet day
A bike with a few saddlebags will probably be just as or more efficient than this
Yup🤣🤣🤣
