- Maqam Bayat is my favourite Maqam in Arabic music and it contains a quarter tone. As you can hear and see, I play a standard guitar with a standard tuning, no additional frets on my fretboard, I bend the strings to get the quarter tone and correct Maqam sound and in this case, I am free to blend my Maqam with jazz lines and anything that I want. This is amazingly impressive!! Your intonation is ridiculously good for a fretted guitar!! I don't think most people understand how hard this is to do, especially in a way that sounds so natural, authentic, and comfortable-- even at speed! Wow.

Have you tried doing full step bends with this scale? I believe bending while playing middle eastern scales gives the guitar a unique feel that you cannot find in traditional instrument. Great video.

Michel! BEAUTIFUL !! I have just recently become aware of your playing and LOVE it! a LONG time (since 1968 ate age 15) OUD fan here! Question : are you using standard tuning? I down tune low E to D for all my faux Indian and Mid East Improvs , or ATTEMPTS at those to be sure! LOL . LOVE you classic clean strat tone! people doing arabic / mid east based improv in an electric jazz or rock setting are few and far between and you are DEF one of the best I've heard! have you seen / tried Kamal Musallam's extra fretted Ibanez guitar's? .. on Facebook under Arabic Guitar Ibanez Oriental Series

Thank u for your kind comment, yes I'm using standard tuning, I don't like adding/removing frets or modifying the guitar in any way to produce a new sound in general. I think that the challenge is in keeping the guitar as it is.

How are you getting those quarter tone so fast? I guess youre pre bending but not sure how youre doing it without missing beats.

الربع تون تكون في القطعه الحديدية الي هي الفريت في ناس تشيلها وتعزف شرقي و اعتقد انك تقدر تعزف عليها بدون ماتشيلها زي الي في الفيديو

بلنسبة للربع نغمة بلبيات، افحص جوجل
مقام البيات هو نفس مقام الكرد فقط ترفع الدرجة الثانية ربع تون تصبح ثلاثة الأرباع يعني ادا عندك درجة الركوز ري إلى مى ثلاثة الارباع من مى إلى فا ثلاثة الأرباع تعفق على درجة مي بيمول مع تحريك اصبعك أعلى وأسفل ليضهر الطبع الشرقي
