Most people when being interrogated realize the (potential) gravity of the situation. This causes them to get nervous and it impacts their thinking. No matter what, if you're being interrogated (regardless if you're guilty or innocent), always say the following for any question posed: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right." No matter what, just keep repeating that. Even if the conversation goes like this, just keep asking for a lawyer: Cop: "I'm going to ask you a few questions today." You: "Am I being detained, or am I free to leave?" Cop: "No, you are not free to leave. That doesn't matter, because I just have a few very simple questions." You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right." Cop: "Yeah no problem, but first we need to get a few things straightened out here. What's your name and date of birth?" You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right." Cop: "But that's not what I'm asking you. This is standard procedure." You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right." Cop: "You know, it looks awfully bad that you keep repeating this. It makes you look guilty." You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right." Cop: "Not that it matters. We've got all the evidence that we need." You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right." Cop leaves for 2 hours, then returns. Cop: "Sorry bud, I got held up. Earlier you didn't seem very compliant when we're just trying to ask a few questions to get things straight. You ready to work with us now?" You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right." Eventually ( at most, 72 hours!), if they have nothing, they will set you free. In most cases, they'll release you way earlier than that time, but this gives you an idea of how long it legally can be (depends on state to state).
The trash truck was supposed to take the trash earlier, but got delayed. Detectives were just actually just barely able to make it to the dumpster before it was emptied. So if not for the trash delay, he would have gotten away with it.
He wasn't shocked, he pretended to be shocked, as to look like he didn't know she was dead and only thought she was missing. It's basic stuff to anyone who's watched a crime show or documentary
Same hahaha. I didn't know about this channel until a few days ago and now I've watched multiple videos lol. Though, I did recognise the chris watts video I watched like a year ago.
The way he slowly turned his head after the detective told him "look at me boy when I'm talkin' to you " reminded me of "Chucky" and Stephen maintained that creepy posture during the entire interview
@@ethanwnuk7999 they mentioned he was studying for his BAR exam. if he really wanted to be criminal lawyer, it wouldn't be to far off to assume he read about investigation tactics and potential counters. For example if you truly believe the lie you are telling, you can fool a lie detector. its really interesting because this shit is better than any crime movie.
@Fallen Engel Well it's not stuff for like food. In his case he really thought his actions were ok. Of course it fucks you up but that can depend on the person and how much traning and knowledge they have.
@@BGRUBBIN I mean you don’t have to actually believe your own lie to fool lie detectors. If you just learn to control your heart rate and breathing, or are not stressed at all, you’ll also pass. Hence why lie detectors are inadmissible as evidence, they’re pretty inaccurate.
I'm going to be honest, if I had to interrogate someone like him, just staring at me like some Japanese grudge ghost, I would forget how to do my job too.
Same dude, tbh the thing that I think made it worse is, I doubt it was an act, I think he completely broke, like look at those bits where they leave the room, and he just blankly stares at the same spot, not even moving a muscle. Fucking creepy. I don’t think there was a way to break through that then and there.
That catatonic behaviour is most likely a kind of strategy of dealing with a mental breakdown. I have had experiences myself where I have been so distraught that all I can do is shut down to an almost hypnotic state. To run away from your own emotions and anxiety you just become... ...no one. Hard to explain but it's a real thing and semi-voluntary
He looks crazed and strange just as his "normal" it makes me so mad when this shit happens to someone who had so much life to live and was working towards a good future and the fact that her parents have to suffer indefinitely. So fd up! 😢🙏
I think it's pretty straight forward. He doesn't have power and he knows the people that do need something from him. Whether it's a outright confession or even a reaction to being insulted. He passive-aggressively gave them nothing and enjoyed watching their attempts fail while he buys time.
It amazes me in the worst possible way when the culprits themselves are interviewed in the news and especially when they can put up such a convincing act. Pure evil.
It's actually an easy thing to do as a predator. If you dehumanize your prey to the point where you can take their life, then being interviewed about it would be easy to think you're not the bad guy.
I would’ve peed my pant right there having him stare at me for a 3 seconds knowing what he have did. Prop to the detectives they could made it for few minutes.
@@patrickduksta2038 not really that creepy. It's clearly just a tactic he's using to hide his fear and mental exaustion. I'd bet he's holding it together just enough to play this psycho character so he maybe can plead insanity bc he knows he's already fucked? I mean he was studying law after all. Just a theory ofc but I bet it holds some merit. Dudes still crazy though no doubt
this is INSANE because in the news interview he broke down, then out of no where just went completely cold and blank. humans are so interesting and scary
i dont think it is interesting at all.. it seems he went into some kind of shock or deep surprise when he found out they located the body.. he realized that his guilt only weirded people out and made them feel awkward, and so he doubled down and used it as a defense, by just being this creepy, deadstaring zombie
He updates too, and starts looking at them whenever they talk. They tell him to look at the picture, and as soon as they start talking again he looks back at them.
"this strategy was meant to induce mental exhaustion but it had no effect whatsoever" I beg to differ, that detective is losing every one of his marbles😂

Steven: “yes…..”
Detective: “WHERE’S THAT LITTLE GIRL STEPHEN?”

Yeah, If you move to the South you could probably be one of their top detectives.

Kid was in law school and didn’t think to ask for a lawyer for 2 hours? Am I missing something here?
cockiness, thinking he already knows the law
👁👄👁 'i don't know'
Does it look like he needed one? 💀
Most people when being interrogated realize the (potential) gravity of the situation. This causes them to get nervous and it impacts their thinking.
No matter what, if you're being interrogated (regardless if you're guilty or innocent), always say the following for any question posed:
"I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right."
No matter what, just keep repeating that. Even if the conversation goes like this, just keep asking for a lawyer:
Cop: "I'm going to ask you a few questions today."
You: "Am I being detained, or am I free to leave?"
Cop: "No, you are not free to leave. That doesn't matter, because I just have a few very simple questions."
You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right."
Cop: "Yeah no problem, but first we need to get a few things straightened out here. What's your name and date of birth?"
You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right."
Cop: "But that's not what I'm asking you. This is standard procedure."
You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right."
Cop: "You know, it looks awfully bad that you keep repeating this. It makes you look guilty."
You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right."
Cop: "Not that it matters. We've got all the evidence that we need."
You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right."
Cop leaves for 2 hours, then returns.
Cop: "Sorry bud, I got held up. Earlier you didn't seem very compliant when we're just trying to ask a few questions to get things straight. You ready to work with us now?"
You: "I refuse to answer any questions. I want a lawyer. I'm practicing my 5th amendment right."
Eventually ( at most, 72 hours!), if they have nothing, they will set you free. In most cases, they'll release you way earlier than that time, but this gives you an idea of how long it legally can be (depends on state to state).
Guy was about to have a law degree, and was genuinely shocked when they looked for her body in HER APARTMENT DUMPSTER
Never mind not asking for a lawyer during interrogation
The detectives forgot to factory reset him before questioning.
Lol
Oh, they accidentally did on the ride back. His personality got erased.

Lmao how the fuck is he doing that
@@ethanwnuk7999 they mentioned he was studying for his BAR exam. if he really wanted to be criminal lawyer, it wouldn't be to far off to assume he read about investigation tactics and potential counters.
@Fallen Engel for example Azula from ATLA, everyone hates her.

Same dude, tbh the thing that I think made it worse is, I doubt it was an act, I think he completely broke, like look at those bits where they leave the room, and he just blankly stares at the same spot, not even moving a muscle. Fucking creepy. I don’t think there was a way to break through that then and there.

@DecrepitOrigin888 The guy in pink looked like he wanted to a few times. This would make for a great film tbh
Agreed I was thinking the same

I think it's pretty straight forward. He doesn't have power and he knows the people that do need something from him. Whether it's a outright confession or even a reaction to being insulted. He passive-aggressively gave them nothing and enjoyed watching their attempts fail while he buys time.
It is said that Stephen McDaniel has never lost a staring contest.

@@patrickduksta2038 not really that creepy. It's clearly just a tactic he's using to hide his fear and mental exaustion.
