Great discussion! So cool you came on. I think I'm very much on your page. Andor is not perfect, but it's much more competently made than anything Filoni has done in live-action.
MauLer's fun to listen to, makes clean and good points, too. By all means, invite him over more often.

Even then you're joking surely.... if you've even watched 10 mins of Rags, say even just by himself not even on stream, then you'd know know he's no where near a furry or near the fandom and actually despises them. His pfp art being from a paedo/beastiality artist, if that's even accurate as I'll fully admit I'm unaware of myself, doesn't mean Rags agrees with that pov or even knows himself thats what said artist is like. Unless you have actual criticisms of Rags from his works/character hes shown rather than who he's tangentially connected to or what others have said about him without evidence then I'm sorry but your opinion has no validity and should be thrown away with the rest of the rubbish that people attempt

We star wars fans have been abused we tend to forget just because star wars gives us a gift once in a while to say sorry it doesn't excuse that we are domestically abused regularly.
I remember some people when defending the Sequel trilogy, would say " Aw come on, its just Star Wars". My first thought to that was "are you even fans, you can't defend something by crapping on it".
Old fans do, new fans just accept any and all sludge that is pumped down their throat by Disney.

How can Mauler compare the fight sequences in prequels and a lower budget tv series without acknowledging the disparity in budget?
@@mrfloosak’lower budget’ tv series? DisneyPlus shows are NEVER low budget, they’re always very, very expensive. On average each Star Wars show spends about $15M per-episode and $120M a season with the only exception to this being Andor

Biggest issue is that Filoni’s wins are under George. He’s on a string of losses under Disney. Gilroy has only won under Disney. Regardless of being the rookie, and you have to give him his credit on Rogue One so he’s got two wins
Rebels, Tales of the jedi, and Clone wars season 7 are under Disney, definitely wins, you sound just like MauLer, unaware of SW content.
Writing wise regardless gilroy eats filoni for breakfast, just add some jedi and sith, maybe have an old republic setting and good god it could be amazing

@@iljagro772 I believe that when someone use the word garbage instead a real argument it diminish their credibility, but respect for you opinion first of all, I understand you don't like Ahoska, but there are people like me who really like the character and I will be very pleased every time she shows herself.
And I can tell you that every show have content that may be called "filler" it is normaly used to know more the characters, in situations where the main story will not take them, it serves to make the flow of the story a bit more easy to digest, some shows have more some have less, depends of the kind of show, the time to tell the story (epidoses), and other stuff.
Now putting the "filler" stuff aside Clone Wars s7, Tales of the jedi and Rebels have peak Star Wars epidodes, and moments, more than any other show Disney had made without Dave Filoni, "Search your feelings, you know it to be true".
@@Guitarman5705 I will say this, if I have to choose writers for an Oppenheimer kind of project and a Star Wars project and I have Filoni and Gilroy as the options, without a blink I`ll get Filoni for Star Wars and Gilroy for Oppenheimer. This is the difference, when you talk about Andor, most of the people, always say "its the best written show, actings are the best, Luthen speach was amazing" and thats it, and when you talk about other projects like Ashoka or Tales of the jedi, you talk about what actually happens in the in the story, the events, you get involved, Asoka did this, Dooku said that, this means this, oh that fight was really exiting, this is amazing, etc, etc. I prefer ten thousand times this, instead of saying "its the best written show, best acting and oh! he said word shit, its more real". Its a very different approach and in my opinion it is no just "add some jedi and sith".

You were never defensive, you were well-spoken and well-reasoned, and what was once a generally less-than-favorable view of you has elevated to become one of respect and appreciation. I love how two people (SWT & Mauler) who have vastly different opinions on Star Wars can agree on one thing, Disney sucks.
I don't think their opinions are that much different. SWT is a bit more forgiving and Mauler a bit more critical, but they both want Star Wars to be much better.

Dude for real, theorys been in arrogant denial since TLJ, and watching this "debate", more like a slaughter from mauler tbh, truly shows that even though he is the biggest Star Wars channel, he is far from knowing it all when it comes to good Star Wars storytelling. So refreshing to watch. In his small defence though, Mauler is an expert in storytelling so trying to debate him if you disagree is really hard.

When it comes to the sequel trilogy, good or bad, I think at the very least there should have been one person overseeing, writing wise, for the whole story. Even if it was all Rian. Or all JJ, they ate are so disjointed.

I grew up with the prequels and they were a huge inspiration for my first job as a VFX artist
A lightsaber is one of the first things aspiring VFX people make and I was no exception
A few years later I actually had an opportunity to work on a Star Wars themed project that was directly affiliated with Disney (was for a high end action figure company in Malaysia)
All because of the prequels

I love mauler. When tfa came out i hated it. But i couldbt really understand all the reasons why i did. Then i saw maulers vid and it felt like he was voicing my thoughts i was unable to get out. Also love that for almost every criticism he provides an example to fix or correct it

I really liked seeing Mauler on. I don't listen to him often but he does offer another side, a more critical side, that Theory doesn't offer. Theory tries to be optimistic and tries to make lemons out of lemonade so to speak and he doesn't want to be known as the guy who just hates on everything. I get that, but I do enjoy seeing those genuine moments/videos where Theory kind of goes off on Disney. I think having Mauler and Theory podcast would be insane. To offer a balance to the force lol. I really wanted Theory to experience a well spoken critical perspective of what Theory likes, while being respectful. Mauler provided that. They may not have dived as deep as I would of liked but it did offer some insight to why Theory thinks the way he thinks.
some people prefer blind, toxic positivity to the true state of things sadly... i see people utterly HATE mauler because he is 95% critical and shitting on disney, but those very same people refuse to accept the current state of disney star wars and actively get mad at me when i point out that yes it indeed lost the company almost 2 billion dollars in losses and marvel is over a billion in losses.... its crazy the level of cope from people who love star wars so much that they refuse to be critical of it (which in my opinion that makes them a fake fan, if your not willing to criticize something you claim to love then you do not truly love it)

Maaaaaaaaauuuulllllllllleeerrrr! Sorry, every time I see him pop in, I hear Critical Drinker say his name. Mauler arrives like a boogeyman and then calmly and respectfully engages in conversation haha. It reminds me of all the times I've seen when two commentators who are vehemently on different sides of a spectrum and the one who is 'bad' surprises the other because they aren't some monster that they imagined them to be.
Cool discussion, I don't watch a lot of Maulers solo stuff much, but I enjoy when he's on Drinker and Friday Night Tights. Always a very concise and level headed guy in those, even when there is the chaos of Friday Night Tights, he stands out.

people mostly hate mauler and those guys due to political reasons.... i used to be one of them 4 years ago but after a while... once you notice the "woke" stuff its hard to unsee it and i started to change my mind on them once i started watching their content instead of the clips and listening to people who hate them.
A lot of people hate him purely by association. People hate EFAP regulars and blame him for hosting it without actually taking a closer look at him.
Theory your the best taking the risk to debut. Love listening to Mauler and the Critical drinker as well and their takes. To me it was obvious it was going to be good because you both are open honest and fair with your opinions. It was a great cross over. Star wars Theory is and always will be my favorite. Seeing Mauler having a nice chat with Theory and the guys just shows how we all have the same passion but we have diferent methods to cope with something. But at the end our views are pretty similar and just persue the vision of something better and worthy for us "fans".

*Mon Mothma* - compare the complexity of that character in Andor vs the Filoniverse. In the first she is a nuanced character with conflicts and dilemmas. In the latter she's portrayed as a dull-witted weak leader. Filoni can write emotional "religious people". He can't write complex intelligent adults. That's why Thrawn didn't work and why his Mon Mothma doesn't work either.
Indeed, the first thing we see of Mon Mothma in Ashoka is a casual conversation about Hera’s family, as though they were meeting for tea, rather than a Time sensitive Council Meeting between a general and her supervisors.

Yeah, Disney needs to do scrap everything Filoni’s done and focus after the sequel films and create their own story arcs. All the new series are fill in the blanks nonsense except for Andor
The collaboration we thought we'd never see. I thoroughly enjoyed this open and honest conversation. Cutting through all the preconceived ideas and falsities built up of each "side", and discovering the actual points of agreement and disagreement was fascinating to me.
Unlike Disney SW, I found myself wanting more, and would love to see follow up conversations or even a potential recurring podcast...though I'm probably just being greedy now.
My respect and thanks to all involved for such good content.
I thought StarWarsTheory is a shill channel. After watching this because of Mauler I realized that's not the case and we agree actually on a lot. Main difference seems simply that I and many other former StarWars fans thinks it is dead, while you guys still have some hope.

It’s a 2 sides of the same coin argument here for you two. Mauler loves Andor, Theory appreciates it and wishes that attention went to something as important as Kenobi. Mauler wants a management reboot, Theory thinks Dave Filoni is the only person left. You two both agree on the same things but each have their own nuances. That’s how all good constructive criticism should be for Star Wars.

Two worlds collide in this great crossover
I wanted and liked Solo. Similar to how I wanted an Obi-Wan and Fett movies. Difference there is I did not like the Obi-Wan nor the Fett series. I found Solo movie enjoyable and think people were expecting too much from a fun side movie. The other thing that hurt Solo is the fan base has just been ripped in half by RJ a few months earlier when TLJ was released.
IMO, Solo got a lot of hate that was more intended for TLJ, just because they were both 'Star Wars'.

I really liked this episode. I felt like with Josh, you had a bit of an echo chamber, but bringing on Mauler felt like a gentlemans disagreement and discussion to try and understand eachothers differing perspectives. Great episode all around

I think he has consistently made some of the best star wars since (and before) Disney purchased Star Wars (Siege of Mandalore, The Clone Conspiracy arc in Bad Batch S2, Crosshair's Betrayal, all of Tales of the Jedi, most of Mando's first two seasons, and the Anakin episode of Ahsoka), but there's no denying he made a lot of stinkers (Majority of Bad Batch season 2, the Martez sister arc in CWS7, Mando Season 3, Book of Boba excluding the two Mando episodes, the finale of Ahsoka... not even to mention many arcs in CW S1-6). Personally, i think the good outweighs the bad but i respectfully disagree with Mauler's opinion while simultaneously respecting him as a person
@alexsupertramp4907 i meant specifically him, and Josh had many of the same opinions, i didn't really feel like it always made for interesting discussions. This is the first podcast I've seen in... honestly, months. It's definitely the first since Josh left. I don't really know the new hosts or how many episodes they've been in, and frankly they didn't really get to shine that well in this episode, but Mauler was a fresh face and led to very interesting discussions
every star wars series feels like the actors cant move... because they stand in the middle of that LED volume. every set is a room with the actors standing around.

But we do have a mandalorian game, it's called "The Mandalorian". It features a (practically) silent, masked protagonist, who gets procedurally generated fetch quests, escort missions, and city defense jobs from various quest-givers, then he uses the rewards to upgrade his armor with a smith!! There's even a "platforming over lava" section.
He even has a tool that acts like a map/waypoint system.
I have been waiting for both of you to talk. Also im happy to hear Ryan Kinel is coming on. Everyone demonising them before you have even spoken and seeing how great the conversation is shows that people dont know anything about either of you

Perhaps the Fandom is not that split. Perhaps 80% of the fandom is united, but 10% are so sad (but therefore quiet) and 10% is just very loud... bc they were led astray (by DisneyLucasfilm)

Even when Mauler mentioned that he hadn't watched all of TCW and hadn't watch Rebels at all his points of reasoning were so good that it wasn't even really questioned, and non of them told him that he should watch them.

But for 8 weeks he was saying Dave salami saved star war's ahsoka is star war's and so on. Then he made a video about the ratings then suddenly episode 6-7-8 were not good and stuff. Like he knows he can't go back talking about originale star war's because everyone has made lore and theory video's about it he has nothing to talk about so evrey time he keeps shilling for Disney until people start going after him and call him out then he changes. I love Josh but I really like this format for the show going forward. Hearing from people with different perspectives like Mauler, Ryan Kinel, and even Gary from Nerdrotic will be really useful in helping the fandom get on the same page even if we don’t all agree on everything.
