Hi, yes I have . It handles the wind well, is it as strong as the Helm one , no. It’s stronger than the helm 2 though. Here’s a video i did of it in wind. th-cam.com/video/Xo4ZSiQ4Ga8/w-d-xo.html
It’s a tough question, but I do feel the Helm 1 is the stronger tent because of its size. The pioneer is a great tent but if I could only have one it would be the Helm.

Finally a video and revue, I have seen this on the website recently, couldn't find any info on it, was interested in the southern cross but this looks like it might be a better option, liking the top vent and head height. Looks like a solid shelter. Let us know how you get on with it ...
Just bought the Helm 1 and must do a review of it. This looked a very impressive tent and given it was supposed to be a 2 man tent, very lightweight indeed. Giving there is almost no extra weight than the Helm 1, I am kinda wishing I had bought this one now lol! Cheers Alan
Alan METALMAN - Outdoors don’t be mate, the helm one is an amazing bit of kit. Still brings a smile to my face every time I use it. I won’t be getting rid of it unless they update it. ATB
Hi hardy, after some advice I have the pioneer 2 with a footprint but I find its a nightmare to line up am I doing something wrong , and is there a easy way to put the tent a match it up with the footprint. Can't find ant videos or help. Hope you can put some light on the matter please. Thanks nick
Good morning. Yes , matching to the foot print can be a faff. I’ve attached the footprint at the red pole peg out points and the side peg out points, it all then packs together. Just a quick release knot so it’s already to go. Obviously make sure your footprint is clean before packing away or detach it if it isn’t. White inner tents and mud don’t mix. Lol. If you don’t want to do that , just peg out the red pole sections on the footprint and place the tent on then pull out the sides with the footprint peg outs until you get the best position. Hope this helps. Hardy
Hi, still got the Helm 1 and will still use it. Got the Pioneer as my 8 year old wants to come with me on camps so needed the extra room. The helm one in my opinion is the best performing one man tent you can get for the money. ATB
@@HardyTempestsWildCampsandWalks ahh this makes sense as it is new. I literally feel like I’m gonna snap the pole I’m bending it so much against the material
@@HardyTempestsWildCampsandWalks i've just bought ferrino force 2 and got recommended your video. Could've saved some weight for the same price and roomier tent :)
Hi, there is no tensioning system on the Pioneer, the poles have extra holes so that you can adjust the tension on the fly though. This essentially does the same thing. Haven’t found it flappy to honest, above 40 mph it does but that’s expected. Cheers and thanks for watching. Hardy
I love the helm one , I think if you take everything into consideration price, weight, longevity and room it’s probably the best one man tent you can buy. It definitely punches well above it’s weight. I love the pioneer because of the room, weight and price. When I need extra room it’s the pioneer, for everything else it’s the helm. I have the new helm one compact on order , will do a review when it eventually arrives. Cheers mate. Hardy
Hi . If memory serves its 220 cm, I’m 5/11 and I have tons of room. But obviously at 6/4 you are going to struggle in lots of tents. Think you might be ok.
Hardy Tempest’s Wild Camps and Walks. Awesome, thanks mate. I’ll maybe give it a shot. Worst case scenario, if it’s too small after pitching in the living room, I can send it back. Looks good in strong winds, too (based on your other videos), which will be good!
It’s is good in wind , make sure you peg out at all points especially the pole points. You can get excess flex there if you don’t . I’m testing it on Kinder scout next weekend so stay tuned. Hopefully will get a good test there. Cheers
Great initial review. I recently bought a Helm 1 which I have used about 5 nights and absolutely love but as I find myself taking my mad cocker spaniel wild camping more often on Dartmoor, I think the additional space would nice for a slight increase in weight. I also reckon I can sneak this past my partner (who says I have too many tents.....7) as it looks identical to the Helm..... she wont be able to tell! Looking forward to you reviewing it.in depth. The girls made me laugh :)
Gibbo 500 cheers mate. It’s got all the hallmarks of a great tent. Stay tuned or sub as should have some more footage of it in the Wild soon. We are getting a dog next year so that’s my main reason for getting a bigger tent. Can’t get any madder than a cocker! Lol
Yep subscribed already and set up a notification. My dog loves camping and has his own Lowe Alpine down jacket that I wrap him up in for a sleeping bag. He takes over the tent though, sprawls out and always gets a good night sleep, I'm left with a few inches just enough to lie on my side and spend half the night awake....lol. Whenever I pack my kit to go out for the night he won't leave me alone and 9 times out of 10 gets his own way and ends up coming with me. They are such good fun and great company. lol
Thanks for the Sub mate. Part of the reason for the puppy will be company for me on my travels. It certainly will get walked. Been looking at lightweight doggy sleeping bags already.
HT. How much longer is the inner tent compared with the Helm 1. I'm 6'3 and use an Exped Synmat UL LW(long) mat but always felt the Helm was a little on the short side but put up with it. After using one of my other tents at the weekend I now realise that I miss the extra length of which I 'm hoping the Pioneer will be better. Also when you do use it I would be interested to know how it copes with condensation as I think the Helm is really good at minimising condensation. I have been itching to buy one since your initial video but will wait for your review........ hopefully I wont be disappointed!
Good review video Hardy, not currently looking to change from our Zephyros 1's yet but always interested in seeing what other campers use.. Looks like a really good tent! 🙂

No, it’s one of the peculiarities of silnylon. As it gets wetter it stretches, so it needs a certain tautness at the beginning.. cheers mate.
