    Greetings,
    It’s always interesting watching a master at his craft, that’s you. The amount of knowledge that you have packed into that noggin of yours is enviable. Folks like you that have a PHD from the school of hard knocks are a valuable thing. Good for you, keep up the good work!

    There is a service bulletin about egr coolers cracking due to air lock . I wonder if that happened, be sure to open bleeder in front of egr cooler when filling. I know some of the older cummins had a engine oil intercooler if its blown it could let oil in coolant. Best of luck Warren you are a man of many talents . I was a Dodge Chyrsler tech for 26 yrs and you blow me away

    My hats off to you!!! Anyone who can rip the dag dumb head off, clean all the ports, scrape the gasket surface, put all that stuff back together in a day or 2 is F ing Good!!! My heart sank when you said the head was cracked. That's the kind of luck I have. Then you go on and figure out exactly why things happened the way they did. Great mechanics have to be part detectives to ask why this and why that. I like the way you double check things like the fitting in the back of head. Crawl underneath and verify by seeing the washer is in place. Another Great find with the thread protrusion on the rocker adjusting nut. Why does this one have 6 threads showing and all the others have 2?? Will have to start calling you Mr. Lubrication!!! Head bolts are lubed!! GREAT JOB!!! Make sure to make a part 3!! This is a neat show to watch!!!

    You can learn something new every day of your life. The ones you remember are the ones that are important to you. you care about your customers that is what makes you the mechanic/person you are and The reason you get to fix all there equipment from pickups to tractor's.

    When I was in Cummins training, the instructor said told us steam pressure will blow the egr cooler when the coolant gets low. I've only seen it once myself. Awesome videos

    Just to let you know Warren, I've seen this same situation. The blown headgasket blew the egr cooler. It takes a lot of pressure to crack the tank on a radiator. You only get that from combustion gas.

    Nice work as usual Warren. Glad it was the cooler and not a cracked head. Nothing says fun like having to tear an engine down for the second time because of unforeseen issues. Been there, done that. Pretty clean truck and engine bay for the year and the miles. I guess that is one advantage of working on California vehicles....

    I always put my valve stem seals on after I slide the valve back in the head using the protective sleeve they provide with the seals. I don't want to damage the seals with the sharp edge of the valves. Amazing that head didn't need any guides or seats....seems like everyone I year town has them beat out of it.★

    This is the 3rd time I've heard of this. You are right on the $. I just watched another channel the other day where they were talking about the same problem. It didn't crack the rad. If you read the forums on the early 6.7 they are prone for popping head gaskets around 150k to 200k miles. I'm putting heads studs in mine just for this exact reason.

    In all my head gasket jobs the fire rings were always compromised. I have not dealt with the modern diesel emissions equipment. I would though always want to change the cooler in any blown head gasket just to be sure I didn't introduce a coming failure. Those coolers cannot stand the heat of losing the cooling system under full load like you described the failure.

    The government didn't tell anybody to run an EGR system. The Government set up emission standards for oxides of nitrogen. The manufacturers came up with the ways to meet those specifications and one way was to recirculate exhaust gases.

    • @CrimeVid
      @CrimeVid 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think that is splitting hairs Warren. You and I know that the EGR system will be the CHEAPEST way to do the nitrogen reduction. I wouldn’t mind betting that there is a simpler, longer lasting and better way to do this, but the big manufacturers choose the cheap way,to retain market share at a pre arranged market price.

    E.G.R blanking plates, with or without a center hole to avoid throwing up codes, very popular mod here in OZ, but illegal, more power down low, slightly higher exhaust temps. Fit a catch can to dry out the intake is the next best thing or do it too.

  • @cesargallo7424
    @cesargallo7424 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The sound issue seems to be a noise supression from the camera to avoid background noise coming from the heater. So when you move back and forth the thing goes crazy. Just my 2 cents. Great video!

    Your right. The only way you split the rad tank is compression pressure. At full boost with an emissions on diesel you might get 40 lbs. That won't split a side tank.

    If your using a Go Pro for the footage they have a limiter compressor for the audio so background noise plays a big roll in the sensitivity.
    Even tho it is a unidirectional microphone the further away you are from the camera the background noise will always take the lead in the recording process.
    Hope this helps.

    The only EGR design that has worked is 2010 JD 4045T powertech common rail 16 valve engine, i found after 3000 hours the exhaust port was clean and no residues in the EGR valve, I rebuilt the engine due to hole in radiator thus seizing the engine, also i found the EGR cooler leaked due to the overheat as my rebuilt engine with no oil in the sump had water flowing out the sump plug, $1500 New EGR cooler cleaned the water out, engine perfect, if this engine is made in China it is the typical example i see all the time, engines from China do not last.

    the head gasket failed, and the combustion/air bubbles, got into the cooler and since she was under load and high egts the egr cooler tubes got really hot and when the coolant returned to the part the bubble was the pressure and temperature change can be so serve it will crack the cooler, or the top of the cooler was nothing but air and the high egts made it soft and extra pressure popped it.
    im leaning toward scenairo number 2 but eathor way teh cooler was an efect of the head gasket buddy, your good, when in video one when u said the cooler was wet i knew it failed i fugred u would put a new one on since its high milage and they do coak up over time

    I'm a bit confused. You thought that it was possible that it just a busted EGR cooler causing the issues and didn't need a head gasket? But you reconfirmed your original diagnosis and reasoned the head gasket leak caused the other damage. You didn't want to charge the customer for unnecessarily replacing the head gasket. So if you checked the EGR cooler first and found it was faulty and replaced it, the head gasket leak would have caused the new one to fail and crack the tank again also? Sorry, I'm a bit behind and don't even know what the hell and EGR cooler is exactly even though I get the gist by its name and the plumbing. I'll re watch again maybe I can figure out why exactly you were worried.
