If you notice, the MV still managed to link to their concept powers - Baekhyun flickers the lights, Sehun makes things move in a breeze and there is the hint that Kai teleports. Totally brilliant, if a little short.
Almost everyone there, Kai was injured so he is technically there and you hear his vocals but he does not dance.
EXOs live performances are something else.. You should definitely react to more live stages.. I suggest Mama+ Monster+ Wolf In Japan

EXO live stages always reign supreme! They are truly world-class performers!
EXO have so much influence on international pop culture that big western companies, such as Disney are coming to them and asking them to partner with them. As you saw, "Lightsaber" was a collaboration between Disney, which owns the Star Wars franchise, and EXO as a way to help Disney promote their Star Wars movie "The Force Awakens".
Disney actually approached SM Entertainment and asked them if they would be willing to create a song and MV centered around the Star Wars theme as a way to promote the upcoming release of the movie across Asia. So SM came up with "Lightsaber" -- which is actually a sort of remix of a song that SM already had also called "Lightsaber" -- and the accompanying MV. (The original version of "Lightsaber" was used in one of Kai's pre-debut teaser videos.)
And because EXO is one of the biggest groups across Asia, with one of the largest fan bases, it's not surprising that "Lightsaber" as a song and MV got a lot of recognition around the world. And because of its popularity, SM came up with the epic iconic concert stage you saw, as well.
One of the reasons why SM agreed to partner with Disney on this project was because it fit so well with EXO's storyline and concept. As aliens from Planet Exo, it makes sense that EXO might be Jedis as well. :D
EXO are supposed to be otherworldly beings and Star Wars is based on alien worlds, etc., so I'm not sure how "Lightsaber" could get any more alien than it already is. LOL
Although, as you heard, they have a Korean version -- and, because it's EXO, they also have a Mandarin version of "Lightsaber" -- the song is actually one of EXO's Japanese songs. So, on top of it being a promotional video, because it was also released as a Japanese song, that is one reason why I think the MV is so short. Traditionally, most Japanese MVs use an abridged version of the song. I think It's part of Japan's marketing strategy to make you buy the song or album in order to hear the full song. So, most of the time, to hear the whole song you have to see it live in concert or listen to the studio version. I personally like the sound of the Japanese version the best. :D
All the members of EXO sing on this track, but in the MV you only see Baekhyun, Kai and Sehun. I'm not sure why SM chose to only include these members in the MV, but I am sure it probably has to do with EXO's storyline.
As you may have noticed, in the MV they seem to be on a mission. For example, we see Sehun in the hotel and he is walking down the hall with all the doors on both sides of them. As part of EXO's storyline, it is thought that EXO uses doors as portals to other dimensions or ways to travel throughout history. So theories speculate that one of the things the members are doing is searching for the right door that will allow them to escape or travel to each other, etc.
Did you read the sign on the wall of the club? Sehun had to turn in his lightsaber before entering the Jedi club because the sign says something like, "This is a lightsaber free zone, all weapons must be checked at the door." He wasn't passing his lightsaber off to any of the members or anyone else.
I also think that the scene with Sehun on the motorcycle is connected to the fact that we see Sehun sitting on a motorcycle in EXO's "Tempo" MV and also in their "Don't Fight the Feeling" MV.
Also, at the very end of the MV we see the lights come back on in the dark hallway of the hotel. I think this is showing Baekhyun using his power of light. He may have turned the lights off to conceal something, then as he exits the space, the lights pop back on.
And like everything that EXO does, flowers even play a part in their live stages. Flowers are a central part of EXO's storyline, so we often see flowers in things to do with EXO. Although I am not sure yet what the significance of blue roses is, blue roses seem to have an important part in the story as well. For example, we also see Sehun with a blue rose in their "Love Shot" MV.
Blue is also supposed to represent EXO in EXO's storyline as a way to tell whether they are EXO or X-EXO. Things that are blue are thought to symbolize EXO or show when EXO has the upper hand, where red represents X-EXO and the Red Force. Also, blue flowers, when equated with a message, usually stand for love and inspiration, and when presenting someone with blue flowers the love language it's supposed to represent is that you are telling them you will stay loyal and passionate about them. So, the blue rose could be a symbol telling EXO-Ls that EXO (not X-EXO) is there and they will stay passionate and loyal to us as they battle the Red Force as Jedis, to protect humanity and restore peace, etc.
You also see during the live "Lightsaber" performance, leading into the rap section, on the floor they show an image of swirling flames, which is the combination of Chanyeol's fire power and Sehun's wind power, which are the two members who are the main rappers of the group.
And as you saw, EXO has one of the largest stage setups, complete with a giant rain machine and moat that was built special for this concert tour. Did you notice that it was raining on stage while they were dancing with the lightsabers? That's why they took their jackets off because they are soaking wet at the end. The members get wet several times throughout this concert.
Those lightsabers are official Disney brand lightsabers given to them by Disney, so they are as close to authentic as you can get without being the actual movie props.
Rumor has it that an executive from Disney happened to catch EXO's performance of "El Dorado" at one of their concerts -- in which, as you saw, EXO also has choreography that uses lightsaber-like lightsticks -- and that's how they were inspired with the idea to ask EXO to collaborate with them on this Star Wars project.
Also, as one of the big 3 entertainment companies in Korea and around the world, SM has had a relationship with Disney for a long time now. SM has partnered with Disney to produce programs for Disney Channel Korea in the past. Many of the members of NCT-Dream got their start pre-debut as members of Korea's Mickey Mouse Club and they starred on the well known variety show, which aired on Disney Channel Korea.
The show was hosted by Leeteuk from Super Junior and the guests on the show each week were SM artists, including one week where Xiumin was a guest.
And NCT-127 also performed on Mckey's 90th birthday celebration TV special in the U.S. a few years ago, as well.
The live performances of ALL of EXO's songs in concert will be way different than what you see and hear in the MVs because they never perform the song exactly the same way twice, and they usually add other elements to the performance to make it special for the concert. That is why fans never get bored no matter how many times they have heard a song or seen them perform, because every time it's a new experience. That's why you often hear about fans who follow Kpop groups while they are on tour and go to multiple concerts and even multiple nights of a concert at the same venue, because the show is different every time you see it.
I encourage you to check out their Japanese version of the song at one of their Japanese concerts on your own time. You will see why most fans will tell you we prefer the Japanese concert performances over EXO's Seoul concerts. However, I understand why you watched the Seoul version because you were afraid of having the Japanese version blocked. The Japanese version camera work, stage setup and video quality are a lot better than the Seoul version you watched. You also miss out on seeing Kai performing in the Seoul version because this was during the leg of the concert where he was injured and couldn't dance, so he sat out most of this concert and only sang some of his parts from back stage or sitting on the side of the stage, etc. But if you watch the Japanese concert you will see all 9 of them performing together because the Japanese concert was before Kai was injured.

As a fellow Star Wars fan, I felt the same way the first time I watched the live performance. I highly recommend watching the Japan performance. The staging is so good, plus they do the Japanese version of the song which I also love.

The two worlds do meet very well don't they? EXO's powers are also worked in beautifully and subtly (lights, wind and teleportation for these three) and fits with what Jedi can do a bit. The red lighting of the "Sith" or villain also lines up with EXO's antagonist, the Red Force. So whether you interpret it from the point of view of EXO's universe or the Star Wars universe, it works.
When it comes to Sehun's scene it always reminds me of the cantina scene in early Star Wars (when Obi-wan draws his lightsaber)
The bar that Sehun enters has a sign that says "no concealed sabres allowed" etc so Sehun hands his over. (So reminicent of Old West films which is what Star Wars was going for too) But near the end we see his hand down and open hinting that either he has another lightsabre "up his sleeve" or that he is using his wind power or other method to bring his sabre to him from the weapon box.
Fun little details everywhere, even in a short little trailer. Of course they kept it a short teaser! They want to promote the films and keep you wanting more :D

I barely watch exordium in Seoul concert. Kai did hurt his ankle and wasn't able to perform. In seoul he was backstage singing his parts and stage in a few slower songs. But man, he was unleash in Japan. Also in the previous tour Lay wasn't in japan so Exoluxion Seoul was way better, for me at least

Hey Marco, I don't get why in the music video there is only Baekhyun, Kai, and Sehun instead of the entire group. And the ending where Kai was like trying to see the light was like "Come on bro get me" as he was grabbing his lightsaber to turn it on was insane! But the live version of that song was really insane definitely when they have their little dance break with their lightsabers! They just know how to put on a show for the fans at the concerts or whatever! EXO is definitely something with the vocals! I bet that they definitely had to have a lot of balance to dance in the water.
