I think every truck has its positive n negatives. I just got my 3rd 2023 Kenworth t880 n i luv it. Its like the bentley of the dump trucks lol. Just like u said though i went kenworth cause the dealership is literally 25 minutes away from the yard i purchased about 2 yrs ago so its a plus. Keep up the great work n salute to all my fellow dump truckers getting up at 2 or 3a.m. everyday taking it to the max💯
Your issues in regards to options on the trucks-pto, door locks, etc are due to the fact they were missed or improperly planned. I have a read spec over and over(300 times or so) and I still catch things-wether missing or improperly spec’d. Its your $300,000 truck so make sure its perfect the first time. I ordered a W900 and the trucker didnt want power mirrors so off they went. Western star ditched the 4900 and designed the 49X. Something you might want to check out.
Unpopular opinion but the international s series would be more reliable than both of these truck and a quarter of the price (I worked the concrete business for a few years and I started in a 4900 after I got my cdl, and it was more reliable than a kenworth t880)
What a great video! Love all 3 trucks. The Star is using a cab and interior that is basically the same since 1996. The newest Hx has a brand new cab design. Your 19, that cab dates back to the 1990s too, basically a 9000 /Psystar cab with the Cat truck dash they carried. That cab with its original interior , like a 2008 9900 or a paystar had more room for the passenger. Im an owner operator with a 2012 Paystar and would feel driving any of these would be a treat! My take on the rust: I feel your frustration, possibly the cab and chassis was delivered from factory in winter. And sent for the box in winter. Sure they wash it. But salt on a hot exhaust. That’s what I think happened. Those trucks saw salt. If I was ordering a new one I would make darn sure it was built , delivered. And had the box put on when the roads are clean. Trouble is lots of them get done in winter so they are ready to work for spring. Sorry to babble. 😂

Western Star I’d say is my favourite, I also have a dealership 5 minutes from my house so maybe im a little bias. I’ve never had or used a paccar engine in any of our trucks, but I’d be open to trying one. We will have a new 2023 Wester Star 49 X showing up in a few months. I think in life, it’s relatively simple, do what you enjoy and what makes you happy. When you case money, it runs.
It’s a great question. The trucks you see in this are all new-brand new trucks so with them it’s hard to say. We haven’t had any significant issues to date. We also have a 2009 Tandem freightliner dump truck with a heated box and it also have no issues. So from mu experience, no issues with the box then Mmm selves. I have however had 2 of our trucks the 09’ and 19’ both rot at a connection piece. The piece being located 12” from where it connects into the truck box. Easy fix, but why does it rot out I do not know. Especially confusing seeing as how our trucks do not run in the winter time and they never see snow or salt. Honestly, I think the spiff axles work great. My only thing I wish they would change is allow you to manually lift and lower the axle from the cab of the truck. Where I live here in Ottawa Canada, we have to have spiff/steer axles on our trucks legally.
I forget what the western star has in it now, but I know both of our internationals had Allison transmissions. I’m pretty sure the western star also has one but I’m not 100% sure I do for yet. We have had zero issues with the Allison transmission in our Tri axles. They seem to be very reliable. I would highly recommend

Good video. The international is not a good truck I feel . But like you said all personal preference . I drive a 2023 western star 49x and I like it but I still would rather have a peterbilt 389 . That’s the best truck I feel and it fits me . And have you seen the paver bodies they sell ? They sit perfectly in the pavers makes it a lot easier! Check that out
We have had really good experiences with International. I love our new 2022 HX, it’s a really nice truck to drive. We just ordered a 2023 Western Star 49x, so I’d be happy to hear your thoughts on that truck because I have one coming in the spring and YES! it has a paver style box!
What's sad to me is that on a 6 figure truck you'd think they could put a paint on the frame and outer parts that doesn't rust after a year of operation, whether it's an issue or not the perception is very poor and shows poor quality in the manufacturing process. Unfortunately vehicles like this are scandalously priced especially considering the aforementioned not to mention the various epa and common failure issues that are common on semi and heavy duty trucks. I guess they figure not only are you probably going to make a profit with the truck but that you'll most likely write it off on your taxes. Just a never ending circle jerk 👻

How well do the boxes stand up to having the exhaust run through them? I've heard the regen cycles eat the boxes from the inside.

The heater shuts off at 500 degrees so the 1100 degrees don't go in the box

Honestly, I think the spiff axles work great. My only thing I wish they would change is allow you to manually lift and lower the axle from the cab of the truck. Where I live here in Ottawa Canada, we have to have spiff/steer axles on our trucks legally.
What are your thoughts on the Allison? Any major beefs? Which AMT is in the IH?

Why tri axles and not quads?
In Canada we call them Tri- Axles. In the states they call them quads. No one here in Ottawa Canada runs “ Quads” not sure why honestly
Man, the HX looks like a Rolls Royce inside and out compared to the WS.
It’s definitely a nice truck. We like our HX and the WS but they both have their advantages for sure.
