    This is one of the best reviews on the A7iv. I have pre-ordered the A7iv and I am pretty excited about it. Personally, I am not bothered by the crop in 4K 60fps as I don't shoot a lot of slow motion. The resolution of the monitor in not a big deal to me as the monitor on my A7C is lower at 921,000 dots, and I've had no issues shooting video or stills. And as you pointed out, the rolling shutter is not as bad as some people have made it out to be. Considering the features of the A7iv, such as the 7K down sampled to 4K for video, the lens compensation, and the touch screen menus, etc,, make it an excellent camera overall. Thanks for your thorough review.

    You’ve done one of the best A7 IV review on youtube. Almost all the review I watched (a lot) were mainly video focused with people talking in vlog style speaking with the camera body on their hands with a poor (if not inexistant) amount of real life exemples/tests.

    Thank you for the thorough review of the A7IV, really appreciate the amount of work that you put into this.
    I'm not sure if this would be the subject of a new video, but how would you compare to this Canon R6, which is one of the major competitors for the A7IV ?
    I have been on the fence about jumping from Canon to Sony for an upgrade of my aging 70D, so I was wondering what you thought about the R6 after having tested the A7IV.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You're welcome! I have tried the R6, but it has some flaws that discourage me from buying it, such as no aperture priority for video, slight crop in all video modes, overheating and so on. 20 MP sensor is also below my minimum, so I don't intend to make R6 videos in foreseeable future.

    Actually let me double down and just ask for a full breakdown of all crop modes and which are compatible with which. Focus breathing, 4k60, apsc non 4k60, active ibis, etc

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Everything is compatible with everything. Focus breathing compensation is compatible with all modes, including 4K 60p or 4K 25p Super35. You can also apply Active stabilization on all modes, even if you use breathing compensation at the same time. Active stabilization crop is 1.1x, breathing compensation crop depends on the specific lens.

Would it be worth getting the R camera as it does not have the low pass filter, providing potentially crisper results? I am mainly into general photography including family/portraits etc.

      I don't really know yet, I will make a comparison in February. A7 IV actually doesn't have low pass filter either. It's a shame they did not upgrade the screen and EVF more compared to other cameras, the new OM-1 now has over 5 million dot EVF with 120hz refresh rate and no blackout apparently. 4K 60p with no crop would have been better and the burst rate is only average really in this era. The A7IV is a much quicker camera. General operation and reviewing photos is much smoother. The A7RIV is a little underpowered for the 60MP. You should also consider, that you need shorter exposure times to get sharp pictures with a 60MP camera and therefore higher ISOs (unless on a tripod). The only situation, where you will see an advantage for the A7RIV, is when you can shoot at ISO values up to 800. Then it makes sense, but if you are shooting at higher ISOs most of the time you'll just get much bigger files without more real detail. If I could only have 1 camera, I would get the A7IV.

    Yes, the only big negative is cropped 4K 60!
    It would've made it the new A7III of these times. The most capable and complete package camera across the board!
    I think Sony was shortsighted. They can try packing more into the next ones and let this be the statement piece and a big draw to the system, because it would've been selling like hot cakes when nobody could compete with it. Yes it would cannibalize the A7Siii, but they'd gain more from offering such well-rounded camera to the masses. It would undercut Canon and the rest of the camera industry!

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I think that Sony knows what they are doing. They don't need to make A7 III-style impact at the moment, since the E-mount is already a well established system with huge user base. A7 IV is the most capable and complete camera in the class by a significant margin even without full sensor 4K 60p .That will keep the A7S III alive and 4K 60p will be the main selling point for the next generation.

    I'm surprised to hear that you are really happy with the video and especially the rolling shutter. The A7IV has gotten a lot of criticism for it. Do you find the rolling shutter much better in APS-C mode?
    Speaking of crop mode. Do you think the camera can shoot 10fps uncompressed RAW when using the crop mode? It could be useful with wildlife or aviation photography to increase the reach while keeping the high burst rate.
    How do you find the new sooc colors compared to the A7III? I heard the they're better.
    I have it on order and am relieved that you like it. That gives me confidence that my next camera is of the highest standard!

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The amount of rolling shutter is completely fine in the real world use. It always gets mentioned a lot in initial reviews and then you won't hear about it for the next 3 years, like with A7 III :) It is nowhere near as bad as with EOS R or A6400. There is even less rolling shutter in APS-C mode.
      I haven't tested cropped continuous shooting yet, but the lossless compression in full sensor mode is not a big deal either.
      Colors seem to be identical to A7S III, so maybe a little bit better than on A7 III, but there wasn't really anything wrong with A7 III colors in the first place.

    Thank you for an excellent review. One thing though, apart from the 3 short shortcomings you mentioned I would add another one: the shutter is very loud, not good for some situations. Actually, this is my main complaint. For indoor shooting under artificial/low light, an electronic shutter is not OK (banding, no flash possible) so you have to resort to the mechanical shutter at the cost of being unpleasantly loud. I have a Panasonic G9 and it has a very discreet shutter.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is still about 50% quieter than on A7 III :) It is actually on the quieter side by full frame standards. G9 has extremely quiet shutter, that probably isn't possible to implement on FF due to the size of the mechanism.
