Great tip on burning the end on EP fibers. As for using the thread to split a tail , Tim Flagler had a "One Minute Tying Tip" awhile back showing the same great technique. Thanks again for the Tying Tips series.
Thank you. I'm trying to tie a realistic looking minnow. A fellow member showed a pic of one he tied, but for certain reasons, he won't explain his process. He has a craft fur body and tail, with a sagging shad style body, covered with the skin. I tried and made a mess of it. Will be looking for your video on how to use the skin. Thanks. Really enjoy your informative tutorials. Eric.
A fourth way to split tails is to create a small thread dam at the back of the hook. The larger the dam, the larger the angle. Tie in your tails on the hook eye side and you can reduce the angle by adding wraps towards the bend. Works great for biot tails too!
Any tips for using the rotary function on your vice? Sometimes it seems my hook shank is too high or low and also I don’t know what to do with my thread bobbin - I’ve tried the cradle, whip finishing, extra turns and I’m not sure which is best. Also, sometimes I don’t know if a material should be turned with the vice or by hand. Are there any rules or principles you guys keep in mind that guide you on when to use the rotary, how to use it, and which way to turn it? Anything would be helpful. Thanks. Love the skill builders
I love these videos, and the production value. The overhead shots really help me see what's going on...as well as getting to see Cheech's soft delicate hands. I agree with other comments about how to handle Gummy Minnow skins. I see other fisherman cleaning up on mini jigs some days, and I want something that has the same action, but not as heavy to cast.
Keep doing what you're doing! Love these skill builders, great to see content directed at helping people become better tyers in short form. So nice being able to send these to people who are having trouble with technique!
I live in the river in the thumb of Michigan and it's not trout salmon river straight up shoal bass small mouth bass rocks blugals crappie can you show a fly that would get them in clear water deer fly please. Thanks your sub from Michigan
In method 3 of splitting tails if you use yellow thread, it could simulate an egg sack making an Adams fly the Lady Adams😊
AUHHH MURR GURSH!! He ain't using his renomed scnazzerz!!!??
I am seeing a lot of that Smhaen bobbin … Also what happened to the C&F Design vise? Keep up the great work!
“Imagine a whip finish on that bad boy!”
I was really looking for the finished fly satisfaction Cheech. You’re lucky I have a good imagination! 🤣
I did too but I thought the whip finish was a bit big!!
This is a wonderful video! I always wondered how to split tails. Great one guys!
Well done! Thank you for your efforts.

Another great video, keep them coming!
Could you show how the skin on the Gummy minnow is used. Great info put out in every video. Thank you.
I’ll start practicing. Those are TOUGH!

I would also like to see that too.

Many ways for sure, but thread dam builds bulk too much IMO

We are going to have a full rotary tying video.
Cheech, love the skill builders you and the crew are amazing. Keep them coming, how much longer do we have to wait till you Tim and Tom get together 🤔
Soon young grasshopper. Soon 😬😬
Really cool stuff; always something to learn. I especially like EVERYTHING! Plus, you going to get more business as I saw something I can use!

If fibbets was good enough for John Betts, it is good enough for me.

If you check out our streamer playlist you will find all the good stuff
Kool Beans 🫘
UV resin, set the tail and then flash set the resin
Resin sinks. Better to just learn to do it with thread.
Any tips for tying cicadas
We have several cicada videos on this channel.
