No screaming, no swearing, everything right simple but working. It is quiet pleasent to watch. I remember cutting the allenkey and do it the same way. Tomorrow I will change the oilpump. I´m not sure, but I think I didn´t lower the subframe - I think I liftet up the engine. Tomorrow I will know ;o)
Worth mentioning that a wheel alignment check should be done afterwards. Or that extra care needs to be taken to make sure the sub frame goes back into the exact same position. The sub frame has a fair bit of movement in the slotted mounting points. With the lower control arms attached to the sub frame, a change in the sub frame's position will alter your camber and caster which in turn alters your toe.
Yes very worth mentioning thank you, there are alignment holes in the sub frame to the body ECSTuning has a tool for that ES#2070660 used them to double check the sub frame alignment to the body, tool here is about $30.00US I know ECSTuning has them in a pair, car drove straight fine down the road but I did get a front end alignment shortly after this just to make sure.
The MOST Important thing - ALWAYS USE Volkswagen Parts - The ones you buy at the dealer NOT Autozone, Advanced auto or any other aftermarket life time guarantee warranty parts.. ALL AN AFTERMARKET LIFE TIME WARRANTY PART MEANS IS - You will do the job again....
Great video, Though I dont think that strap did anything. Engine is fully bolted to the transmission and you supported the transmission... so the transmission was really the only thing holding the motor
Thanks for the reply, the hoist support is needed "per Bentley" the engine can drop enough when the sub frame is released to possibly stretch hoses, wires, Turbo/fuel lines from the body. Kept everything in place made the job easier putting the sub frame back in. Better safe than sorry I guess. Bentley refers to the VW hoist @ about $1,200.00 VW Engine Support Set: #10-222B. 2x4's worked
Sorry for the slow reply Tom, I have done this twice since I did my Passat and I could not get the pans down with out dropping the sub frame a little bit..

How did you get the oil pan bolt out thats above that pesky front motor mount? I can't get anything in there

you can lift the engine or drop the sub frame in order to remove the pan
